RANDOM COOL: Barbie Foosball

This foosball table seems to appeal to every category of child: the boys who secretly want to play with Barbie, but is still trying to look tough, the girls who are tomboys and are more into sports then dolls, the boys who realize how lovely ladies are at a young age, and the girls who really really want to play a game with their older brother. Thanks Colette for making everyone happy, except for maybe the parents who would have to shell out 10,000 euros for this little gem. Still, I’m book marking this for the day someone tries to convince me a game room in my house is as good idea because, honestly, if someone offered to buy me this table I’d never turn it down.

WTF!?!: Fergie

It’s not that I think this is a complete WTF, I just don’t really care about it one way or the other, but definitely wouldn’t wear a shirt that had bald barbies all over it.

If Barbie Was A Fashion Editor…

She would probably look like this, minus the bizarre hairdo. An Anna Wintour bob perhaps? No…Barbie would scoff at such drabness. Elle magazine’s creative director Joe Zee give her the devil wears prada makeover, trading tacky Toys “R” Us collections for something more au courant–Balenciaga peacoat, Chanel bag, Hermes scarf, slim, dark denim jeans and oversized shades (worn indoors, of course). The only thing she’s missing is a pretentious scowl.

Barbie Destroys Little Girls Fashion Week Dreams

February 15th, 2009 brought the first ever Barbie runway show to New York Fashion week as a tribute to the classic toy’s 50th anniversary.
The show brought fashion regulars, media reps, photogs, and reporters but it also brought Barbie lover’s from across the country. Former and current Barbie collectors milled together ranging in ages from the very young to the very young at heart.
Apparently the invitations mailed out by Barbie reps encouraged the invited to bring along their daughters and nieces to the event. While this concept is a nice sentiment perhaps they forgot the limitations of space that is so frequently and issue at Bryant Park. While it may be one thing to turn away hoards of twenty-somethings clamoring for standing room at the William Rast show, it is quite another to deny an optimistic 6 year old access to that hot pink runway. If I were one of the parents encouraged to bring along my little girl only to have the doors slammed in her face once she got their I would have been rip-roaring mad. Way to be a dream-crusher Barbie.

This Barbie Thing Is Getting Out of Control

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past fashion season, I’m sure you’re aware of Barbie sudden dominance of the world of cut & sew. The bitch is 50 and instead of fading away into menopausal bliss, she has decided to stage a comeback (my guess is she took a page from Madonna’s handbook, expect a young latin play thing any day now).
As part of her attempt to remain relevant she’s staging a fashion show at Bryant Park this week and even has gotten hip to this Facebook all the kids are talking about. Of course, her Facebook features some weird as videos of celebrities who don’t really do much, except endorse Barbie. Something about Kevin Sorbo (the 90s Hercules) talking about torturing Barbie’s as a boy makes me concerned for what kind of message the plastic cougar is trying to get across. Maybe a S&M Barbie is right around the corner (hey, it worked for Madonna, right?).

Barbie Loves Stila Cosmetics

One of the most popular cult makeup lines ever, MAC Cosmetics introduced their Barbie collection in 2007. It was very successful generating $9 million dollars in retail sales. The limited edition MAC x Barbie doll was just as fabulous as any trendy girl and came with a makeup case and a glam modern look. She retailed at $239.99. Don’t get me wrong, I am a makeup addict…I love being a makeup artist but this is one MAC item I couldn’t image buying.

Christian Louboutin To Design Shoes Inspired by Barbie
Christian Louboutin is designing pumps in iconic Barbie Pantone 219 Pink, which will make their debut at the special runway show that Mattel Inc. is staging during New York fashion week next February.
Fifty as-yet-undisclosed designers will produce Barbie-inspired outfits for the runway, and each of the 50 models will be wearing the pink Louboutins at the show.
“I guess I always had a little ‘girlie side’ who liked Barbie,” Louboutin said. “Barbie needs to wear great
shoes because every girl needs to wear great shoes.”

A Doll of an Idea!
The name might not carry the classy, luxury car effect like Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, but come February, Mattel, in partnership with CFDA will host a Barbie inspired Fashion Week. New York Magazine seems a bit apprehensive about a plastic doll being linked to the fashion industry, but I actually think think this could be a cool concept. Afterall, Barbie really is a symbol of all that is fashion and femininity in America. Fern Mallis, Fashion Week master of ceremonies, thinks Mattel Fashion Week will be a big hit: “For many young girls, [Barbie is] their first association with fashion and dressing up and changing clothes.” Let’s face it, all girls have played with a Barbie doll at some point, so why not rekindle the childhood fashion flame?
Mattel also plans on throwing a “life-size” Barbie runway show featuring 50 looks from different designers. Quite a cool concept if you ask me! But I will agree with NY Mag in saying that Mattel’s plans to launch their “Plastic Smooth” makeup line is a bit overboard. Sorry, I don’t want to look like you can peel chunks of plastic off of my face!
Thanks NY Mag!

Designer: Margaux Lange
When your chief design inspiration comes from childhood toys, something unique, and maybe slightly strange, is bound to be created. Margaux Lange says that Barbie Dolls played a significant role in developing her creative energy. She is fascinated with Barbie’s celebrity status as a cultural icon in American society. Her peculiarly charming accessory line is composed of pieces from her childhood memories.”I enjoy the funny juxtaposition of wearing the body, on the body,” Lange says. “Barbie has become the accessory instead of being accessorized. I take pleasure in the contrast and contradiction of something mass-produced being transformed and revealed as a unique, handmade, wearable piece of art.”

Street Zero: Angelyne
Here in Los Angeles Angelyne is a living legend. She bought up billboards in Hollywood promoting herself. A genius idea except she wasn’t really talented in anything, except for marketing. A Paris Hilton of the 90’s, if you will. She’s still out and about and the paps still care to take her photos. Angelyne looks to be about 78 now, but lucky for us she still dresses like a Barbie!
Can we expect Paris to dress as classy at Angelyne’s age?
