The American boardwalk has become a place for fried food, fake boobs and leathery complexions, but this iconic beach scene hasn’t always been so seedy. Once upon a time, stylish vacationers and locals alike filled the seats in soda shops and on Ferris wheels, parasols and lace gloves in tow. East Coast boardwalks – being so close to NYC, center of the universe – were visions of elegance and abundance, even in spite of the freak shows, speakeasies and casinos. If you’re wondering how you can channel classic American East Coast boardwalk style this summer, check out our guide for all the must-haves.

Although there was a wintry mix falling over the five New York boroughs this morning, yesterday was the official start of spring. Last week, our cell phones changed automatically, leaving us with one less hour of sleep but the joy of lingering daylight. I took the time to wind my watch ahead as well, a task that, for many young folks, is a lost art. But time pieces are back and better than ever, so why not spring ahead this season with a little wrist candy? I got the chance to see some of the very best watches from five acclaimed brands last week, and I guarantee you’ll find two or three you can’t live without.

Amidst front row celebs like Jennifer Love Hewitt and both Kelly Rowland and Cutrone (right in front of me), BCBGMAXAZRIA was an impressive display of bright geometric minimalism. Built upon building blocks of right angles, it seemed an experiment to manipulate the square, creating soft shapes from straightest of lines. The stark white turtleneck understructure allows for brilliant contrast. In a collection of solid blocking, the one recurring print is carved of millions of stacked cubes. The sheen opaque material bounces with each step, and the airy chiffon flutters in layers.

This linen oversized cardigan is perfect for hitting up the shore or Soho on a brisk Sunday. It’s fitted more in the waist so you know it won’t give you the bag effect and it’s light so you know it won’t weigh you down. Definitely a must have and worth the $81 that HAUTELOOK.com is charging (originally $180, a total steel).
