Birthday! I Would Like You to Dance, Stella McCartney

Edited by

Happy Birthday Stella McCartney! I never would have guessed she turned 40 today – positively gorjuss. And what a thrilling year she’s had: a store opening within Saks Fifth Ave, a contract to design the British Olympic uniforms, a stunning well-received Fall 2011 collection, and the opportunity to costume the MET ballet, Ocean’s Kingdom. Not only did the latter allow her to employ all she has learned at ADIDAS and with designing for the Olympics in a far more artful manner, but it gave her a chance to work professionally with the ballet’s composer, her father, Sir Paul McCartney.

Stella McCartney and Liv Tyler Chat with FashionIndie Over Veggie Burgers at Saks

Edited by

Amidst an indoor midsummer’s picnic with vegetarian burgers and dogs, cotton candy and a doo wop quartet, Liv Tyler hosted a party for her good friend Stella McCartney in celebration of her new shop opened within Saks Fifth Avenue. The star of the party was certainly Stella McCartney – her full Fall 2011 collection lined the store in Saks, giving us a chance to feast our eyes and hands on the oversized blazers and dropped shoulders sidling body con dresses. The chest of kid Stella clothes was pretty freaking adorable, too. And 10% of proceeds from her sales last night went to The Naked Heart Foundation.

Stella and Paul McCartney: Champions of the World

Edited by

Stella McCartney runs her company like her father, Sir Paul, runs his world tours: Vegetarian. While there were literally thousands of positive words that could have filled that spot, being animal and earth friendly is a cause that the McCartney clan has embraced with a passion as a way of life. For Stella, using organic, non-toxic, animal-free materials is still secondary to designing beautiful clothes; she designs garments that women will love, and chooses fabrics that accomodate the world. Those facets are intertwine to become luxury fashion that sells a clean conscience. See what Stella has to say about it her sustainable mindset.

Lucy in the sky with diamonds

Edited by

Just found a flyer of the Beatles Museum in Hamburg where I’ve been to last year and thought of this song. If you happen to get to Hamburg make sure you visit this museum. Hamburg is where the Beatles started so it’s basically the birth place of all great modern music.

The video can be slightly disturbing….

IN REVIEW: Extreme Beauty In Vogue

IN REVIEW: Extreme Beauty In Vogue

There’s nothing like having high quality prints of Irving Penn, Richard Avedon, Helmut Newton, Steven Klein, Annie Leibovitz, Steven Meisel and several other established photographer’s work in the confines of your own home. I had the opportunity to snag a copy of Dolce & Gabbana’s collaborated photo compilation, Extreme Beauty In Vogue, before it hit’s shelves in October, and I must admit, I feel like a child staring at a picture book, completely mesmerized by every photo. Edited by Phyllis Posnick with an essay by Eva Respini, Extreme Beauty In Vogue exposes photographic, stylistic and journalistic perceptions of female beauty and opinions on allure. Featuring two centuries of work, the evolution of cultural attitudes on women is exposed in this coffee-table must have. And for those of you hung up on Vogue’s typical conservatism, there’s enough nipples, asses, bestiality and blood to suit your fancy. Shove your Beatles anthology to the side folks, because this $55 investment is what your dinner guests should be snooping through!

Why do guys commonly use the term “high-tops” to mean the classic Converse sneakers or the recently popular Nike Dunks? You can never go wrong pairing your black Converse with a pair of raw denim straight legs, a black button-up and a few accessories here and there. And we all know how versatile those Nike Dunks can be…a red and black pair to match your plaid or even neons to go with all of your hiliter yellows, oranges and greens. But take a look around…your brother, your cousin, your best friend’s uncle’s ex-wife’s son’s next-door neighbor ALL have these shoes. I assure you, there are other high-top options out there!

Above are a few pairs I came across while searching Ssense and Revolve Clothing. Although these high-tops are rather similar to the designs and concepts of Converse and Nike Dunks (slim fit, aeration pores, ankle laces) they have enough detail and flare to make them unique. Depending on the brand and material, these shoes can set you back anywhere from $100-$400…but it beats looking like every other Beatle band reject and fake NBA star out there!
