While he may have denied and denied dealings with Dior, Maxime Simoens is becoming part of the LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton family nonetheless. Bernard Arnault is said to be investing in the 27-year-old couturier’s eponymous line, only weeks after his departure from Leonard.

Forbes Magazine, that wealth of celebrity-earnings knowledge, has published its 25th annual list of the world’s billionaires — all 1,226 of them. Their combined net worth is $4.26 trillion, or to put things in perspective: about a third of the U.S. national debt; or if they decided to break off and form their own country, Billionaire Island, the world’s fourth largest GDP. Besides Spanx founder Sara Blakely‘s debut, the fashion industry made a decent showing on the list with Miuccia Prada returning after a six-year absence.

Karlie Kloss won’t be making any appearances on the runways during New York Fashion Week this season because “an engagement has come up.” This alleged engagement means a loss of thousands upon thousands of dollars for the super-in-training so whatever reason it is, it must be something good. And having no facts or clues on which to base supposition, we’ve come up with five conspiracy theories regarding her possible whereabouts.

At the glacial pace Bernard Arnault and co. are moving to replace John Galliano at Christian Dior, the ousted designer will have time to finish rehab, mount a comeback, and muck it all up again in another drunken, anti-Semitic tirade. The luxury brand has been in talks with Marc Jacobs for months, which have been less than smooth, but now it seems that Jacobs and Dior might be calling it quits.

French president Nicholas Sarkozy presented Vogue‘s editrix in chief Anna Wintour with the Legion of Honor award of merit last night at Paris’ Élysée Palace. After receiving the prize, she mindlessly threw it amongst her other awards, the Order of the British Empire and the head of Carine Roitfeld.

Bill Gaytten, John Galliano‘s longtime assistant not only took over his former boss’ namesake label but seems like he’s also running Christian Dior for now. And if his Fall 2011 Haute Couture show is any indication, he’s running it right into the ground. The first of many mistakes? Karlie Kloss not opening the show for what would have been like the 300th time.
