Rihanna's makeup is super fierce in "Rude Boy," especially this fiery pink eye she's rocking. To get the look, choose a bright, rosy shadow like Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Woodstock. Sweep the hue from the inner corner of your eye past the outer corner for a cat eye effect. Finish with thick eyeliner on top and bottom lash lines and black mascara.

Execs at Steve Madden, which assumed $48.8 million of the cartwheeling designer’s debt in 2010 in exchange for her brand’s intellectual property, declined to comment on the exact number of employees that would lose their jobs, but an exec at Betsey Johnson estimated that at least 350 people will be affected.

“I feel so sad for my store people and all my pink girls. They live and die for me. But I need to be better. I really need to work well and be more efficient,” Lady Bets Johnson told WWD.

Madden wants to keep four or five Betsey Johnson flagship stores in New York, Los Angeles and other major cities while the Johnson brand will focus primarily on its moderately priced label sold at Macy’s and other retailers.  The Bestey Johnson label retails from around $128 to $148 as opposed to the Bestey Johnson Collection, available at her freestanding stores, with a price point around $395. Around 75% of the spring line will be moderately-priced goods.

“I love the moderate-price range. It is in sync with all the girls who are buying my clothes,” Johnson said.

According to Madden, e-commerce will be unaffected – “It will seamlessly integrate into our infrastructure.” — and they’re working to put a new license in place for Johnson’s sportswear to avoid “interruption to wholesale deliveries.”

The Betsey Johnson bankruptcy filing may come as a surprise, but for the designer, the fashion landscape has become all too crowded. When asked what was her biggest challenge in conducting business she responded, “The competition — the H&Ms, Topshop, Century 21 and the knockoff ability is unbelievable. Within three days of something being on the Internet, they have seen it, they copy it and they price-beat it.”

But don’t expect the plucky 69-year-old to stay down for long. She’s got a new reality show with her daughter Lulu, a new fragrance launching in the fall and a positive outlook: “You know, as you get older, you really want to go back to that idea of happy — happy, productive.” [WWD, sub req'd]

- Tyra’s holding three pictures in her hands…and they’re all going the fuck home. Ms. Banks has not renewed the contracts for (read: fired) her America’s Next Top Model costars — stylist Jay Manuel, noted fashion photographer Nigel Barker and runway coach J. When I went to prom, we piled 18 people in the back of a limo, my date slapped an overdyed carnation on my wrist, and I bought my dress at the mall (accessorized a la Claire’s). In other words, it was not a classy affair.  But since the moms and sugar dads of Generation T (Toddlers & Tiaras) have been shelling out big bucks for their daughters, we’ve rounded up a few of our favorite over the top prom products to make your day all the more special.

How can you resist? You'll need enough room for the guys, the girls, the dresses, and if you're in New Jersey, their hair.

No one does a prom dress like Betsey Motherf*ckin Johnson. She's pink, she's shiny, she's crinolined to the max. Be sure to spend at least $400 on your dress, because you will get a ton of use out of it...this one single time.

Nothing says "let me take your virginity" like paying too much for flowers. Especially roses. Especially pink ones. Especially highlighted with crystals. This $120 version should get the job done.

The perfect way to top off your hot pink dress and hot pink Hummer is with a pair of blinding shoes. Remember you're still in high school, so let's not go overboard and stay in the $300 range. They may not be Swarovski, but they certainly sparkle.

And the creme de la creme of the prom princess outift is this sparkly little clutch that is actually a flask (filled with diet soda of course). It is important to stay hydrated kids! Have fun!

Defining eco-fashion as “the work of environmentally-conscious designers who use, produce, and/or promote sustainable and ethical products,” Eco-Fashion: Going Green utilized six themes to illustrate the eco-fashion movement: the repurposing and recycling of materials; material origins; textile dyeing and production; quality of craftsmanship; labor practices; and treatment of animals. Thus one learns of both the positive and negative aspects of fashion’s environmental impact.

So take those pencils out of your updo and put on our reading glasses because we’re taking a brief history lesson on the origins of eco-fashion.

This silk brocade gown from 1760 is an early example of sustainability due to its superior quality and the level of care put into it. After all, it's still around ain't it?

Imagine something being vintage 170 years ago. This gown dating back to around 1840 was made from repurposed silk from the eighteenth century.

While there are more environmentally-sound ways to dye fabrics these days, back in the mid-19th century, that wasn't the case. Many green dyes, like the one used in this dress from 1865, used arsenic, rendering both the textile worker and the wearer susceptible to poisoning from inhalation of the fumes.

Rayon is considered the first manmade fiber and by the 1920s was widely used in low-price clothing, as in the orange dress on the left. Meanwhile, legendary couturier Madeleine Vionnet (1876-1975) -- whose ivory silk georgette dress is seen on the right -- was the first to offer paid vacations and coffee breaks to her workers. Thanks Madge!

The evening cape on the left was made out of cellophane, a material composed of regenerated wood, cotton, or hemp; while biodegradable, its production also created pollutants. The man's dressing gown to the right was made from a 19th-century "crazy quilt," which itself had been made from scraps of leftover fabric.

The label in this dress reads "New York Creations," which appeared in garments produced after July 1941, indicating "that the fashions were all locally manufactured and adhered to union standards of fair labor and product quality."

This nylon seersucker suit from 1959 was part of a wave of synthetic "wash and wear" clothing that was allegedly wrinkle-resistant -- can't tell from where I'm sitting -- and also water-repellent, thus reducing the need for routine ironing and conserving energy in the long-run. The wool suit on the left was made out of the reversed side of a paisley shawl, a practice called "turning" (it) that dates back to the 18th century.

The skirt on the left was handmade by "Mountain Artisans, an Appalachian-based women’s cooperative that sold clothing in high-end New York stores such as Bergdorf Goodman." The dress on the right is by Betsey Johnson from 1971 and bears the Woolmark label, guaranteeing that it was constructed using virgin, non-reprocessed wool.

The dress on the left from the early 70s was made using fabric from the 1920s while the Halston number on the right was made of Ultrasuede, a versatile, durable, machine-washable but non-biodegradable material developed by the designer in 1971. And worn by Liza to this day.

Martin Margiela was dubbed "fashion's founding father of recycling" by Suzy Menkes in the 90s. For the top on the far left, Margiela used repurposed silk scarves and for the two sweaters wool socks. The incomplete sweater (middle) is held together by pinned, unsewn seams while the complete sweater brilliantly utilizes the contours of the heels for the curves of the elbow, shoulder, and bust.

While faux fur is seen as a more humane alternative to real fur, its production still has its share of environmental challenges. Like polyester, it's made from petroleum and requires an energy-intensive production. The Oscar de la Renta coat from 1995 incorporates both faux leopard skin and Mongolian lamb fur, though today de la Renta uses Origin Assured furs, which regulates sourcing. The subtle tiger print faux fur jacket is from Dolce & Gabbana in 1992.

Kenneth Jay Lane, the king of animal costume jewelry, is always our go-to designer for whimsically luxurious pieces that aren't so hard on your wallet. If you're looking to make a statement, this ring says it all. I'm here, I'm fierce and I know you want my gold-plated, Austrian crystal snake coil ring... and you can't have it.

Could these little sea critter friends be more adorable? We love Betsey's take on animal jewelry, combining bright metals with sparkling glass accents for statement-making pieces that are both playful and practical. We've seen tons of octopus pieces, but never earrings this cool.

Is that a horse or a unicorn? Whatever the majestic creature may be, we are loving this 14K gold-plated brass bracelet, featuring an intricate cigar band design. Coco enamel is like the icing on the cake.

Ahh the seahorse; the only species on planet Earth where males are responsible for childbirth. Who doesn't love these delicate, intricate sea creatures moving gracefully through the deep blue? Show your nautical love with this majestic, sterling silver two-headed ring.

Lucky for you, an internship isn't a real job - you can have a little fun with your wardrobe as long as you don't look like an asshole. A small animal accessory is always a cute touch to top off a professional and stylish outfit.

Showing up to work with busted nails is a no-no, especially if you don't have a closet full of Milani One Coat Glitter for backup. Iridescent hues looks nicer longer than matte ones do. Throw a bottle like this in your bag for emergency touch-ups.

What’s your favorite thing to do when you’ve got lots and lots of time on your hands?

“[whispers] Oh that’s a nice one. I love to travel, but I really love to hang out with my Grandaughters downstairs. I’m on 10, they’re on 5. It’s not too difficult to find time when I’m done with my coffee. We are on another roll I tell you! I’m doing a lot of appearances. I’m on the road doing promotions or opening new stores. It’s a very busy time now, but I love it. I heard a great quote on the radio the other day; Mark Twain said, ’Make your vacation your vocation.’ Is that interesting? Or make your vocation your vacation. That’s a little harder to to. I felt, Old Marky and I, he must have been overworked. He must have been a workaholic. But I love what I’m doing.”

Your daughter, Lulu, werqed it on the runway last week. Is she pursuing modeling, or is that walk just for you?

“No, no, no, the show inspiration was of a voluptuous figure, which Lulu has always had and stood for. Last time she was on the runway was in 2000 when I did a show with the Playboy Bunnies. She was the best on that runway. She knows how to do [cups her hands a few inches from her breasts, gives a hunch]… She would never dream of modeling, she would have to loose 2/3 of her body weight. I dont know, maybe Victoria’s Secret? All the Victoria’s Secret models come off of my runway, because I let them be sexy, you know, flaunt it. And sure enough it’s easy to get them, then they’re scooped up by Victoria and you can’t get them anymore.”

What do your new timepieces tell us about you?

“What I love is that they always have stuff for young, my granddaughter sometimes. A skull with a bow in this watch. They go from kitty to grandma. From classic to cute. Twinkly to chic. I dont know, anyway. They’re great, beautifully made. Great weight, which is very important to me in a watch. I had lots of fun doing it, great company. I just really love them. The numbers are big, they have a real weight to them…I mean Frankie has me down. Frank, he owns the company… Frankie what’s your last name?”

We can forgive her unreliable memory so long as she continues to turn out the you-go-girliest pieces in the industry.

Daphne Guinness in Abed Mahfouz – Another member of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Tranny Heel, the always impeccable Daphne Guinness chose relatively unknown Beirut designer,  Abed Mahfouz to wonderful effect .

Kirsten Dunst in Patrik Ervell — I feel like I’m experiencing a Kirsten Dunst renaissance. First she wins the top acting prize at Cannes, now I actually like her choice in red carpet attire? What goes on here? Though honestly, I’m always a sucker for a woman in a tux and a high bun.

Karolina Kurkova in Diane von Furstenberg — An emerald, hooded jumpsuit, sashed at the waist? Karolina literally looks like the ghost of Grace Jones…and she very well might be since god knows where the hell that brick house full of crazy is these days.

Chloë Sevigny in Chloë Sevigny for Opening Ceremony — Leather and lace and giving face. Nothing’s wrong with a little free self-promotion, though her lady humps seem to be angling for some attention all their own.

Betsey Johnson in Betsey Johnson — Why the hell not? Betsey looks great — and in all black! — but the tulle ballerina skirt remains in tact, if only a few inches south. But for girls our age, Bets, everything ends up heading south eventually.

Chanel Iman in BCBG Max Azria — Lady and the vamp! Looks like Chanel and Karolina both hopped on the same 70s soul train, but with a bit of leg, a flash of cleav and a shoulder or two, Chanel is ready to steam up some mirrored disco balls.

Call me crazy just as long as you call Michelle Harper perfect. I’m not sure what she’s wearing, but I want one in every color.

Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen in The Row — I’m convulsing over MK’s gold lamé jacket, I just wish Ash had chosen to accessorize a little more. Hair up, statement necklace and a cat eye never hurt anyone. The Row bags, while cute, also look like mini-briefcases, which for an evening dress, is a little jarring.

Vera Wang in Vera Wang – Vera, Vera, Vera. While I love a cowl neck, this look makes Morticia Addams look like Patricia Goddamn Field. Where’s the color? Where’s the fun? I would’ve taken a beading wedding gown over this funereal frump any day of the week.

Erin Fetherston in Erin Fetherston — The CFDAs might have to instill a ban on designers dressing themselves. Though the dress is lovely — and that bang is flawless — the color washes Erin out completely. Also, another lack of accessories! Does no one wear jewelry anymore?

Joy Bryant (and Rachel Roy) in Rachel Roy — For the permanent record, Rachel looks good, not her best look, but she gets a passing grade. Barely. Because after all, she also dressed Joy, who’s going to have to stay after school and bang the erasers. And from the looks of that dress, she might also be banging the janitor.

Tory Burch in Tory Burch — You can try to dress up a burlap sack as much as possible, but then it’s just a burlap sack with some awful polka dots and some even more awful ill-placed beads. Or bottlecaps. What are those actually?

Sessilee Lopez in Zac Posen — One question: why? An old lady dress on a stunning, young supermodel still looks like an old lady dress. And frankly, I doubt any dames of a certain age would be caught dead wearing this. It’s unflattering, there’s too much going on about the bodice and worst of all it looks cheap. Zac, I would like to see you in my office. Bring the butt paddle.

Though I live by Unzipped and gave Bravo‘s The Fashion Show a shot (even before the inclusion of Iman), once the mandals came out I just couldn’t keep my silence any longer.

Audigier would land on this list just for creating Ed Hardy, but religiously wearing it only cements his inclusion.

3. Vivienne Westwood

You know Crazy Cat Lady from The Simpsons? Dye her hair Carrot Top orange, throw her in a combat boot and call her Vivienne Westwood.

I saw Anna Sui on the street the other day…though it could’ve been a bag lady. Either way her China Bang was stunning.

9  Karl Lagerfeld, Perhaps a controversial choice, but the gay vampire look sometimes leaves me…cold.

10. Betsey Johnson

There’s nothing I want more than to see Betsey Johnson doing cartwheels in a ballerina tutu at age 90. Just because it’s bad doesn’t mean it doesn’t feel good.

1. Invest in a tent: Not to camp in silly, to wear! Tent dresses are the best fat day cures in the whole entire world. Just make sure it fits you well through the chest and arms to avoid looking like you’re wearing an actual tent; that’s when this look becomes unflattering. 2. Wear pants at your actual waist: Here’s the thing, low rise pants are not flattering if you carry extra weight in your stomach. Try a pair of high-waisted pants that sit at your natural waist, the smallest part of your stomach. 3. Opt for an empire waist: When the waist of a dress sits above your natural waist and flows into an A-line skirt, it draws attention up and away from your problem area. 4. Go vintage shopping: They don’t make ‘em like they used to, that’s for sure. In an age of fast fashion and mass produced everything, garments are not made of the same high quality they once were. Dresses from the 50s and 60s were tailored to actually fit a woman’s body correctly and give her a waist. 5. Buy a bra that fits: And no excuses! As an intimate apparel industry veteran, I can’t tell you how many women I’ve heard say “this new bra changed my life.” A proper fitting bra lifts and separates to give you the shapely figure you deserve. It also improves posture and, I guarantee, confidence that will be noticed by everyone. Stop by a department store with a good intimate apparel department, and someone can measure and help you find the perfect fit. 6. Cute shapewear won’t kill you: Shapewear – UGH what a gross word, right? Well, it doesn’t have to be. Shaping and smoothing garments have come a long way since girdles, as many of them can pass for regular clothing. Smoothing and shaping tanks with a touch of lace look like normal slips or camis, so you don’t need to worry about being frumpy when removing your clothes. Defining Fashion Moment: Whenever Mr. Sheffield had any sort of high-brow fête, Fran would make her entrance atop the staircase to the studio audience’s whoops and hollars. Then she would precede to mess up and inevitably repair whatever situation her employer was involved in.

Fran Drescher’s endlessly optimistic nanny was the continuation of a long legacy of whacky ladies who were no strangers to glamour. A legacy that started in the 1930s with screwball heroines like Carole Lombard, Katharine Hepburn and Irene Dunne and which continued for decades more with Lucille Ball.

That The Nanny is still in re-runs is a testament to Fran’s (Drescher and Fine’s) own legacy. Now if we only had more time I could delve into the genius wardrobes of Ms. Fine’s relations: Yetta and Sylvia Fine.

I can see the apple doesn’t fall far from the sequined tree. And for extra credit, study up on Should Be on the Nanny.

Johnson seems happy about the situation. “Whenever you come out of a situation with a good partner, cash coming into the business and the elimination of all debt, what’s not to love?,” Johnson said.

Madden wants to focus on daytime dresses and make shoes 30 percent of the Betsey Johnson business. I can’t complain about that!

Madden already holds a license for handbags, small leather goods, belts and umbrellas under the Betsey Johnson and Betseyville trademarks. The collateral for the loan includes the company’s intellectual property, so Madden could be in line for the labels it holds as licensee. Also included among the items securing the loan are “the borrower’s personal property, accounts, deposit accounts and cash, equipment, fixtures, general intangibles, goods [and] inventory.”

Looks like I’m not the only person the recession put in the doghouse.

The cartwheeling designer will have to pull out all the stops over the next two years, Steven Madden Ltd. recently stepped in and purchased a $48.8 million dollar loan owed by the designer which will need to be paid by August 20th, 2012.

If the loan is not covered Madden will then own Betsey and all the comes with the package including personal assets belonging to Betsey herself!!!

Madden already holds the license to produce accessories under the Betsey Johnson and Betseyville names, so some are suggesting it’s in his best interests to keep the brand alive. I’m sure we’re going to see a bigger play on Betsey’s part to hold onto her company by increasing market share and reminding girls just how fun it is to be a Betsey girl.

These temporary tats will be available at the end of September at Betsey Johnson boutiques, online and department stores.

After all, both Eloise and Betsey like to stir up some trouble and break all social norms and rules. While Eloise is pressing every floor button and letting her turtle loose in The Plaza’s luxurious halls, Betsey Johnson is still using pink zebra print (despite it being one of the worst prints in history, yet she still gets away with using it) and does cartwheels down rectangular runways, despite being 67 years old.

The 18th floor suite features candy striped walls, gilded gold mirrors and seating, zebra flooring, a King sized bed with oodles of pillows, various quotes from the book painted on the walls and lots of pink florals. The suite costs a hefty $995 per night, however includes a roster of swag to take home with you. A monogrammed bathrobe, a framed photo of you and your guests in the suite, the Eloise book, an Eloise camera and a $100 gift certificate to the Eloise store inside the hotel are included with the fees.
