What did you do for a raincoat before you created Terra? (and what flaws did you find?) Yurika Nakazono, whom is the creative director of the brand, and I [Marie Saeki, CEO] went through many non waterproof raincoats, and few [that were] waterproof but not that fashionable! I used to wear one from Muji, well done, very simple but we really wanted something more fun and stylish. It was hard to find something not casual; we did research, but really couldn't find anything. At the end, both Yurika and I, just gave up cycling when raining…until we made our own.

What do you wear on the rest of your body on your bike in the rain? When raining, underneath the Terra Lower East Side parka I'm wearing , Levi's jeans, Alice Ritter blouses (obsessed with them) or Marni tops. I'm never going out of my home without a scarf (love Hermès!). As for shoes, I just got the low rubber boots from Aigle. But soon I will switch for Terra New York, as we have a high heel boots in rubber for F/W 2012.

What about a helmet?? Bern! They do very cool helmets, I use the Brighton, customized with neon tapes.

When signing for our new office space in Dumbo yesterday, Daniel and I realized that our apt in Brooklyn Hts is just a tad bit too far to walk from (only 6 blocks but we’re lazy), so we decided to look for bikes. Not realizing that the bike is the “new fashion icon” we opted to go to Target instead of searching on Craigslist (still searching so let me know if you’re selling a bike). Today I found this article on Uber written by Susan M. Kirschbaum on how cool bikes really are:

They get us where we’re going without requiring gasoline, keep us in shape and will now be celebrated at this weekend’s film festival as an “instrument of style.”

Bicycle Film Festival that hits New York this weekend, featuring myriad films on the bike as sport and mode of transportation to support all the smart facts. The festival itself moves through seventeen cities worldwide. An exhibition called “Dear Velo” that showcases several modern artists interprets the bike as an instrument of style. Artists in the show that runs until Monday, include Phil Frost, Amy Franceschini, Grace Yung Ting Teng, and Tom Sachs, brand bastardizer.
