- 226 million people shopped in-store and online over Black Friday weekend; up from 212 million in 2010

- 28.7 million people shopped in-store and online on Thanksgiving Day; up from 22.2 million in 2010

- Average shopper spent $398.62 over the weekend; up from $365.34 in 2010

- Total spent over Black Friday weekend in 2011: $52.4 billion; total spent in 2010: $45 billion

- Total spent on the actual Black Friday: $11.4 billion; a 6.6% increase from 2010

- Amount of shopping done online: 37.8% or $150.53 per person

Retailers — several of whom reported record-breaking sales — were generally shocked, albeit ecstatic, over the holiday shopping surge. However, the National Retail Federation — the organization responsible for all these numbers — only predicts a 2.8% increase in retail sales this holiday season. But considering that greed won out in the end, with consumers tending to buy as much for themselves as for gifts, there’s still plenty of shopping to be done. Now having seen the collection we’ve been going bananas over for months, here’s the scoop:

The collection was chock full of hit and misses, but admittedly mostly hits. And though there were the luxuries of pomegranate boozing whilst shopping, and indulging in dime sized hors d'oeuvre of petite spaghetti and meatball, spicy tuna tartar and more, the lines for the dressing rooms were no picnic. Many, like me, went rogue and tried on dresses over the clothes in the midst of the crowd. It werqs. Check the best and the worst of the collection and WHO was shopping ahead.

Theophilus London, Mickey Boardman and Robert Verdi got their diffusion shopping ON.

These lackluster hearts lacked love. In fact, they are some of the only items to remain in the store after it was ravaged by fashion bloggers, editors and the dedicated early bird shopper (even through today). Though the 90's are decidedly back, no one seems to be loving the heart print.

This outrageous palm-glam classic versace print translated best in the collection.

Of all the prints Versace could have mustered, this one lagged a bit. Sure the two-tone is kind of awesome, but it looks childish and too cheap in the first person.

This print was definitely the star of the men's department, which was considerably smaller than women's. The majority of the men's options were solid blinding pink and aqua, and studded black. This jumps out if you want something optical.

This little leather dress is stunningly studded and form fits to just the right shape. It's a little splurgier than the rest of the finds, but the $200-range for Versace still ain't bad.

At the end of the day, this shopper's hat summed up the experience. Versace x H&M was pretty epic, but seriously...

Wal-Mart is opening at 10 pm on Thanksgiving, but before then, the megachain will give shoppers the chance to sign up for a preview of its Black Friday catalogue. Right on its heels is Macy’s, which will open at midnight on Black Friday with hundreds of “doorbuster” sales. Sears decided to stay closed on Thanksgiving this year – “There was a sentiment from customers to keep Thanksgiving as a holiday,” (of all the concepts) according to a division vice president — but will offer scannable billboards around the country to encourage mobile shopping. Ignoring Sears and their observance of Turkey Day, Gap Inc. will open 1,000 stores this Thursday, 800 alone of which are Old Navys.

Despite the extended store hours and doorbustery promotions, the appeal of Black Friday is waning. “The ‘big day’ isn’t the ‘big day’ anymore,” David Bassuk, managing director and head of AlixPartners told WWD. “It’s been diluted with earlier and earlier hours and even Brown Thursdays. There’s still some allure to getting up early and hunting for bargains, but we’re starting to see more and more retailers who are telling the consumer, ‘Stay home and get your sleep. We’ll send you what you need so you can still get the best deal.’”

What’s more disturbing: the fact that retailers are so desperate to make Christmas dough they’ve created a Brown Thursday or the fact that they insist on calling it “Brown Thursdays?” And will you indulge in the shopping frenzy this Friday or will you be too busy fighting your way through a turkey coma? One day each year, a BLACK cloud rolls over department stores. (Ah, the price of a good sale.)

You know what I’m talking about. People turn EVIL for this 24-hour stretch!!

They steal your parking. They cut you off while driving. They push you into walls, step on your toes, snatch the last sweater, climb over your back, sneeze on your shoulder, yell in your ear and contribute to general chaos.

They bite. They claw. And they gnash their teeth at you. They turn into CRAZIES.

Black Friday brought the bears out of hiding to come “protest” Diesel on the biggest sales day of the year.In a clear attempt to draw a crowd and catch attention, Diesel staged a fake protest featuring people dressed in full bear costumes to catch shoppers’ attentions (I think it worked). I don’t fully understand the reasoning behind the bears or what not, but I do remember seeing big bear costumes used in store displays last time I was there. Definitely not an orthodox way to draw people to your store, but I think it’s great!
