As the inaugural recipient of the Ecco Domani Sustainable Design Award for 2009, BODKIN is an ongoing exploration of sustainability in methods and materials. Designer, Eviana Hartman, creates wearable sustainable clothing essentials for this Fall 2009 collection.

The A/W 09 collection will be available starting August 2009 at fine retailers like Steven Alan.

Samantha Pleet left Bodkin in the trusty hands of former Teen Vogue and Nylon writer Eviana Hartman, with whom she started the eco-friendly label.

Hartman held Bodkin’s first official runway show Monday and showed off “dyes derived from eggplants or spinach leaves, quilting from recycled bottles, and non-violent silk blessed by the Dalai Lama.” The result: slouchy, warm shapes, one-of-a-kind dye jobs, and sustainable simplicity.

Open until mid-January, the pop-up shop features clothing and accessories from Samantha Pleet, Patrick Pleet, Rapscallion, Bodkin, Pamela Love, Kendi, Jewish Rosaries, and Mocun.

For their Spring 2009 lookbook, Brooklyn-based Bodkin designers Samantha Pleet and Eviana Hartman recruited Swedish songbird Lykke Li to model their latest eco-friendly looks.
