A new, limited-edition recycled denim collection, arriving just in time for the Earth Day fuss, has united Alexander Wang, Bottega Veneta, Derek Lam, Rodarte, Rogan, Stella McCartney, Versace, and Ann Demeulemeester.
Last summer Barney’s New York collected recycled denim, which these top designers have fashioned into outfits. The exclusive designs, now in a window display at Barney’s, will go up for auction on eBay April 30, starting at 99 cents each. All proceeds will benefit Oceana, “the largest international advocacy organization focused 100 percent on protecting and restoring the world’s oceans.”
ELLE has even chipped in with a David Armstrong-shot editorial in their May 2009 issue.
Project Blue is working on the stat that less than 2% of clothing thrown out in the US is actually worn out. Alternatives, of course, include buying and giving away used clothes, or re-fashioning and re-purposing old clothing, as these featured designers have done.

RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Bottega Veneta Fall 2009 Collection
Edited by Corey Moran

Remember back in 2004 Martin Scorsese came out with that movie The Aviator? Well that was the first thing that came to my mind when I saw the images from the Bottega Veneta show. The collection features a very high end vintage feel, that is clearly evident through his cuts, fabric choices, patterns and overall styling. I love the look, and as always Mr. Veneta produced a classy line.

Thin White Twinks Win The Runways of Milan
Edited by Saynt

White boys have won the runways of Milan. Blacks, hispanicals and asians are completely missing. Thank god for the recession, hopefully a few more of these brands will go under and take their 1940′s segregation based practices with them.

TrendSpark: Monochrome
Edited by Rebecca Alexander
Great article in WWD about the newest (well heard about it for some time, but now it’s official) trendspark for fall: monochromatic looks from heard to toe.

“Come Fall, designers like Maurizio Pecoraro are advocating a monochrome vision that extends from head to stockinged toe. “My idea was to create a pure look,” explains Pecoraro, who conjured his eighties-era memories of singly hued looks from Claude Montana. The cherry on top of this ultra-matched look is tights, particularly in hard-to-find hues like persimmon at Bottega Veneta, ocher at Nina Ricci, and burgundy at Albino. (Stow the matte black Wolfords for next season.) Knee boots created a similar effect at Akris and Halston, but hosiery’s hegemony is undeniable. Even pattern-loving designers like Anna Sui and Paul Smith ordered up custom leg wear for complete coordination.”
