Brad Pitt to Smell Like a Parisian Lady as New Face of Chanel No. 5

In a surprise marketing maneuver, the male half of Brangelina is rumored to be the new face of the world’s most iconic perfume. That’s right, Brad Pitt is shilling Chanel No. 5.

According to E! Online, the actor and father of (how many are they up to now?) is in London filming the first ad which will be released overseas later this year. And for his troubles he’ll be taking home a nice little paycheck in the seven figure range — just enough to keep that ever-expanding brood dripping in juice boxes for years to come.

Neither Pitt nor Chanel would comment on the veracity of the rumor, but if it’s true, he would be the first man in No. 5′s 91-year history to front the brand. It’s unclear, however, if Mr. Jolie-Pitt will be hocking the original scent or a new men’s version. [Telegraph via E! Online]

- Demi Moore has reportedly turned to Oprah for some tender, love and care following her stint in rehab and split from Ashton Kutcher, citing the big O’s help in getting Jennifer Aniston back on her feet after Brad Pitt dumped her for that Jolie woman. - You know who knows how to properly celebrate 420? Rihanna. Aside from rolling a blunt on a bald man’s head — while in Chanel no less — she also puffs with the mightiest lungs in America, if not the world, Snoop Dogg himself. - The Guess v Gucci trial has come to an end, with Guess’ lawyer, Daniel Petrocelli, making a convincing closing argument calling into question Gucci’s slow response to the defendant’s alleged trademark infringement. - Tyra’s holding three pictures in her hands…and they’re all going the fuck home. INDIE REWIND: 10 Stoner Style Don’ts for 420

To quote a famous poet, “I got the Rolly on my arm and I’m pourin’ Chandon/ And I roll the best weed ’cause I got it goin’ on.” Yes, we can all have it going on this April 20th, just the way his High Holy Snoopness intended it. 420 is like stoner Christmas — the holidaze to end all holidaze. You’re likely to see these mavericks of marijuana — these Wizards of Weedly Place, these potentates of pot intake — wandering the streets and haunting 7-11′s the world over, as out of touch as their wardrobes. Granted, the garden variety stoner is not what one would call a fashionista, but if they can they lift their dreadlocked heads from the sweet, sweet lips of their bong to take a look in the mirror, they can avoid these few style missteps and look as fly as they feel.

Happy Toking and remember to dress is human, to smoke divine.

1. Quit this: Birkenstocks A mandal by any other name would look as bad.

Hit this: Espadrilles An Hermès espadrille may not be ideal for Ultimate Frisbee in the quad, but it's more than appropriate for quick munchie runs.

2. Quit this: Tie-Dye Psychedelia gave us many things, none of them as enduring or as tacky as tie-dye.

Hit this: Bold prints Pucci prints are as trippy as they come so you can easily get lost staring into them for hours on end.

3. Quit this: Hemp A durable and versatile fabric, there are more chic ways to green your wardrobe, especially without using your green.

Hit this: Organic fabrics If you're all about sustainability and that crap, H&M's Conscious Collection is easy on the environment and on your wallet.

4. Quit this: Puka shell necklaces Ah, the puka shell necklace, or as I like to think of it, shorthand for letting everyone know you're a complete tool.

Hit this: Statement jewelry A statement necklace says something completely different, like "I'm high as a kite right now and I'm going to dress like it."

5. Quit this: Ponchos If you've been indulging a little too much in the late night Taco Bell, then by all means, drape an unflattering carpet over yourself.

Hit this: Capes However, a cape like this Alexander McQueen number is a fashionable alternative to the poncho but on the other hand, so is anything else.

6. Quit this: Board shorts Board shorts are appropriate on only one occasion, and that is on a surf board. Any other time is just an insult to surfers everywhere.

Hit this: Suit shorts Tom Ford doesn't think men should wear shorts at all, but Thom Browne doesn't expect you to play hacky sack in a full-on pant during those hot summer months.

7. Quit this: Hawaiian shirts Hawaiian shirts are appropriate on only one occasion, and that is on Charlie Sheen. Any other time is just an insult to Charlie Sheen...which is kind of all right.

Hit this: Paisley shirts Odds are you won't need much to cheer you up this 420, but paisley, like this Michael Kors top, can add a dash of curlicued sunshine to anyone's day.

8. Quit this: Baggy jeans "So okay, I don't want to be a traitor to my generation and all but I don't get how guys dress today. I mean, come on, it looks like they just fell out of bed and put on some baggy pants and take their greasy hair - ew - and cover it up with a backwards cap and like, we're expected to swoon? Hit this: Harem pants A harem pant gives you the same freeballin' feeling as a pair of slouchy Levi's hanging off your upper thighs and -- bonus points -- the drop-crotch acts as a great weed table if nothing else is around.

9. Quit this: American Eagle For most of us, middle school is over and so is the Eagle.

Hit this: American Apparel Going from the Eagle to the Apparel, though, is not so much a show of growth so much as a show of wanting to get laid. But even stoners need to slut it up sometimes.

10. Quit this: Beanies A beanie is like the stoner equivalent of the little black dress. And though I would deign to ask any pothead worth his or her reefer to abandon their LBD...

Hit this: Newsboys A newsboy cap adds a certain air of jauntiness and charm. I mean, who would you rather get high with, beanie boy or Brad Pitt? Though the beanie guy looks baked as all get out.

- Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt of legendary celebrity couple Brangelina are reportedly engaged, since Angie has been spotted sporting one hell of a rock on her ladyfinger that Brad allegedly designed. Since they’ve repeatedly said they wouldn’t get married till everyone — gay and straight — had the right to, here’s hoping Fran Drescher performs the duties for these two queens. [Fashionista]

- Families are spending between $1000 to $2000 on prom this year, which is a lot of money to look like a cheap slut and get knocked up in the back of a Chevy Camaro. [USA Today]

- Jean Paul Gaultier and Madonna have reunited for the pop tart’s upcoming world tour, meaning we can only hope for conical bras, absurdly high ponytails and the return of Madge’s blond ambition, all relics of the early 90s. [Grazia]

INDIE REWIND: The 10 Greatest Oscar Gowns of All Time

The Academy Awards are this Sunday which means that Meryl Streep is sticking pins in her Viola Davis vooodoo doll, George Clooney is readying his smug acceptance speech and Brad Pitt is scraping the last Jolie-Pitt scion off his scraggly goatee in preparation for the big night. So in celebration and in anticipation, we present to you an oldie but a goodie: The 10 Greatest Oscar Gowns…wait for it…OF ALL TIME.

So what is a great Oscar gown? It’s a dress that is memorable, history-making, scene-stealing or just plain fucking perfect. With that, I just don’t get the fuss over Gwyneth Paltrow’s pink prom dress and refuse to even acknowledge that gown or the fact that she has an Oscar.

Audrey Hepburn (1954) Auds became a star and a fashion icon that night when she wore Givenchy, beginning a lifetime collaboration between the star and designer. Along with America's heart, she took home the Best Actress trophy for her debut performance in Roman Holiday.

Grace Kelly (1956) This was no doubt the look Gwyneth was going for when she strolled the red carpet in that wrinkled princess confection in 1999, but make no bones about it, this is how it's done kids. Kelly beat out some major competition the year before -- including Judy Garland and Dorothy Dandridge -- to nab her Best Actress Oscar for The Country Girl, but she really stole the show in this Helen Rose stunner.

Elizabeth Taylor (1961) In the pantheon of great movie stars, few shone brighter or longer than Liz Taylor, thus a list of the greatest Oscar gowns could barely be considered legitimate without Liz throwing her white diamonds into the mix -- I hear they've always brought her luck. Taylor won her first of two Oscars for BUtterfield 8 and wore this gorgeous Christian Dior number to claim her statuette. It's generally accepted -- even by Liz herself -- that Taylor won the award through a vote of sympathy after losing her husband Mike Todd in a plane crash -- only to seek comfort with Debbie Reynolds' then-husband Eddie Fisher -- and suffering a life-threatening illness during filming - at one point she was actually pronounced dead. Six years later she took home a well-deserved trophy for Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

Barbra Streisand (1969) Eschewing tradition and helping to usher in a new generation of movie star, Babs wore a see-through sequined sailor pantsuit by Arnold Scaasi. It was a big gamble but La Streisand came out the winner and made history by tying for Best Actress with Katharine Hepburn when they won for Funny Girl and Lion in Winter, respectively. Kate chose not to attend because, honestly, it was her third (of four) Oscars and she couldn't have been bothered.

Cher (1984) Cher might have proved that she was a serious actress with her Oscar-nominated turn as Meryl Streep's lesbian lover in Silkwood, but she's still fucking Cher. The icon wore Bob Mackie (natch) to the 1984 ceremony but lost only to win three years later for Moonstruck. And that gown was no less show-stopping, but didn't have this amazing headdress.

Nicole Kidman (1997) Nikki Kids was a greenhorn on the red carpet before this Dior gown and became one of its reigning queens thereafter. Though she gave an incredible performance the previous year in To Die For, she was denied a nomination only to finally win once dumping that lilliputian husband of hers for her brilliant portrayal of Virginia Woolf in the saddest movie ever made, otherwise known as The Hours.

Sharon Stone (1998) I usually spell "batshit crazy" S-H-A-R-O-N-S-T-O-N-E, but Stone looked the picture of elegance in a Vera Wang skirt paired with a Gap button down. The marriage of high and low was made in heaven that night, though I still couldn't tell you why she was at the ceremony that year. But like most things with Sharon Stone, I don't question it.

Céline Dion (1999) Was it a stroke of genius that caused Céline Dion to turn her Christian Dior blazer back-to-front or just an actual stroke? Either way, Celine was memorable the year after her heart went on and on to win Best Original Song (though the award itself went to the songwriters, I. Dunno and No-one Cares).

Björk (2001) The dress that launched a thousand jokes, Björk's Marjan Pejoski swan dress was perhaps the last epic thing to stroll down the Oscar red carpet. Nommed for Best Original Song that year, Björk may have left empty-handed but no one will ever forget that she was there.

Halle Berry (2002) Halle Berry not only became the first African American to win a Best Actress Academy Award that night, but she also launched Elie Saab into the sartorial stratosphere. This was Berry's and Saab's shining moment and everything since then has been an enormous letdown. On both their parts.

‘The Help’ Takes Home Top Prizes at the 2012 SAG Awards

You know what Viola Davis‘ Screen Actors Guild Award says, “I beat Meryl.” The divine Ms. Davis won the Best Actress trophy last night, over fellow acting heavyweights Michelle Williams, Tilda Swinton, Glenn Close and of course Meryl Fucking Streep. Viola’s co-star in The Help, Octavia Spencer, continued her victory lap over the course of awards season with another Best Supporting Actress win, while the 1960s civil rights drama beat out Oscar front-runner The Artist for the Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture award, the equivalent of Best Picture. The Artist‘s Jean Dujardin, however, triumphed over bona fide A-listers George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio to win the Best Actor prize and Captain Von Trapp himself, Best Supporting Actor winner Christopher Plummer, is all but guaranteed an Oscar for his role in The Beginners. The Oscars are still four weeks away and while this awards year has been a bit of a snooze, the race is shaping up to be anyone’s game. Full list of 2012 SAG Award winners after the jump!

The 2012 Oscar Nominations: A Few Surprises, A Lot of Snores

The nominees for the 84th annual Academy Awards were announced this morning and most importantly, Melissa McCarthy was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for Bridesmaids. Everything else…eh.

I always love when a comedic performance gets some recognition and while the film was excluded from the list of NINE Best Picture nominees, Kristen Wiig scored a nod for her brilliant screenplay with Annie Mumolo. Meanwhile, if that trash Diablo Cody can win for Juno, Wiig might want to ready her acceptance speech.

Hugo leads the pack with 11 nominations, including Best Director for Martin Scorsese – his seventh career Best Director nom and ninth overall — and Best Picture. It will compete against The Artist – a close second with 10 nominations — and out of seemingly nowhere, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, which has garnered mixed reviews and has been pretty much absent during awards season. But, c’mon, it’s a 9/11 movie, who’s really surprised?

Other Best Picture contenders include Steven Spielberg’s critically-mixed War Horse, Terrence Malick‘s The Tree of Life — which won the Palme d’Or at Cannes a while back –, The Help, Moneyball, The Descendants and Woody Allen‘s Midnight in Paris.

Allen, it should be noted, snatched his 22nd and 23rd Oscar nods. Take notes, kids.

Also racking up an ungodly amount of Oscar gold this year is (unsurprisingly) Meryl Streep, who scored her 17th Academy Award nomination for her role in The Iron Lady. She will face off against Michelle Williams, Viola Davis, frequent nemesis Glenn Close and surprise nominee Rooney Mara for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Tilda Swinton was once again robbed of a nomination — this time for We Need to Talk About Kevin.

The Best Actor category has BFFs George Clooney and Brad Pitt going head-to-head, while relative unknown Demián Bichir snuck in for the little-seen indie film, A Better Life. The Artist‘s Jean Dujardin, fresh off his Golden Globe win, is also nominated and after decades of generally shutting shit down, Gary Oldman scored his first Oscar nomination for the British film, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

2012 BAFTA Nominations Announced

Awards season is in full swing as we inch ever closer to the grand daddy of them all, the 2012 Academy Awards. The next step on the road to Oscar is its British equivalent, the BAFTAs. The Artist is quickly emerging as a front-runner favorite this year, scoring nominations in all the major categories including Best Film, Leading Actor, Leading Actress, Best Director and Original Screenplay. Meanwhile, Meryl Streep and Michelle Williams, fresh off their Golden Globe wins, will go head-to-head against The Artist‘s Bérénice Bejo, Tilda Swinton for We Need to Talk About Kevin and Viola Davis for The Help in what is easily the most competitive and interesting category. And chances are the same names will be read out come Oscar night. But until then, full list of the 2012 BAFTA nominees after the jump!

It’s been one hell of a year for a certain occasionally-bearded, dog-loving thespian cum hunk cum meme. While some — read: everyone — feel he was unjustly robbed of another award earlier this year, Ryan Gosling is getting a double dose of appreciation from the 69th annual Golden Globe Awards. He’s pulled quite the hat-trick, getting nominated twice this year for Best Actor in a Comedy and Drama. Bradley Cooper was, to the surprise of everyone — read: no one — was not nominated for Limitless.

As big as the Globes’ crush is on Gosling, it can’t hold a candle to the raging boner the Hollywood Foreign Press has for George Clooney, who’s nominated for three awards — Best Director and Best Screenplay for The Ides of March and Best Actor for The Descendants. Why don’t you put it back in your pants, HFA?

Thank You for Buying a Friend: Rue McClanahan’s Possessions Up for Auction

Move over Liz Taylor, you ain’t got nothin’ on Blanche Devereaux. While the legendary Mrs. Taylor-Hilton-Wilding-Todd-Fisher Burton-Burton-Warner-Fortensky may have had enough jewels to shower the East Coast in White Diamonds, who wouldn’t want some treasured Golden Girls memorabilia? Rue McClanahan sadly passed away last June, but before her death she made sure that she left her fans a bit of herself. Now her son, Mark Bish, is fulfilling his mother’s wishes in a series of auctions of the star’s possessions across the country starting December 17.

In the first auction, items from McClanahan’s apartment on East 56th St in New York will go up on the block, including furniture, artwork, costume jewelry, personal letters and most excitingly, several of her Golden Girls outfits, as well as a couple of scripts from the classic sitcom bearing signatures from the cast and Rue’s “doodles.”

“She was so artistic. She would doodle, and I mean really artistic work… and detailed,” said sole surviving Golden Girl Betty White. “And I kept telling her: you’ve got to do something with those. That is more than doodling, that is artwork.” Among the doodles, though not available in this particular auction, is a self-portrait by a young George Clooney, who guest starred on the show years before slipping into his E.R. scrubs or robbing a casino with Brad Pitt. “Isn’t that something? He didn’t flatter himself,” White waxed. And my guess is, neither did Bea Arthur.

Fashion producer Chico Lowndes curated the exhibition that will feature 30 large-scale works and 30 original Polaroid shots from Klein’s collection. Among the pieces include images of Madonna, Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie, Tom Ford, and Justin Timberlake.

The Iguatemi Photo Series is a cultural initiative sponsored by Iguatemi Sao Paulo and part of the largest chain of luxury shopping centers across Brazil, that aims to present the public with photography that goes beyond their typical mindset. on. Iguatemi Photo Series at MuBE has previously sponsored works by artists such as Guy Bourdin, David LaChapelle, & John Rankin.

The exhibition will run from Aug 11^th-28^th.

Kat Dennings
“My first audition was for a commercial for the lottery. I didn’t get it, so I hate the lottery.” Since that rejection, Dennings, 24, has become an indie favorite—the smart, seductive, prickly downtown darling in such movies as Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist and Charlie Bartlett. Her curves and her attitude—bemused but sweet, self-aware but curious—set her apart from other young actresses. As a kid growing up near Philadelphia, “I wanted to be Christopher Walken,” Dennings says. “I saw a film version of Puss in Boots, and he was Puss. He had a mouse tail hanging out of his mouth, and he said ‘Growl’ as only Chris Walken can. That performance made me want to be an actor.”

Emma Roberts
“I always wanted to be an actress, and my first audition, when I was nine, was for Blow, playing Johnny Depp’s daughter. I think everyone in my family was shocked because they sent me on the audition to kind of shut me up about the acting thing.” Roberts, 19, has been acting in movies from that point forward, playing everything from Nancy Drew to an orphan who runs a hotel for dogs to a troubled teenager in It’s Kind of a Funny Story, which is out September 24. Like her aunt Julia, Emma has an all-American sunniness mixed with an attraction to darker subjects. “I don’t know that I’d do a full-on nude scene, ever,” Roberts says. “I’ve never had a full-on sex scene…but we’ll see.”

Mary Elizabeth Winstead
“I would love to know what it’s like to be blond, but every time I mention the possibility of going blond, people act like the world’s going to come to an end. I will say that having pink hair was really fun.” Winstead went pink (and blue and green and red) in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, which was released in August. A veteran of television, she was cast by Quentin Tarantino as a snappy, sexy actress in 2007’s Death Proof. “It was never explained why my character was in a cheerleader’s uniform for the entire film,” Winstead says. “But the outfit made it easy to get into character.”

Zoë Kravitz
“When I was young, I wanted to be able to read minds. I would try to do that with my dogs. It didn’t work.” With a mysterious quality that seems at once innocent and worldly, Kravitz, the daughter of Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet, has defied racial stereotypes. The script for The Brave One, in which Kravitz gave a startling performance, had called for a European-accented blond, but the actress’s audition demanded a total rethink. “I’m a pretty obnoxious person,” Kravitz says, “so I’ll make a sex scene as uncomfortable as I can just to break the ice.”

Greta Gerwig
“I grew up in Sacramento, and it seemed like movies were handed down from gods.” Gerwig, who earlier this year starred opposite Ben Stiller in Greenberg, began her acting career as the leading lady of Mumblecore. The movement was born when a group of filmmakers met at the South by Southwest film festival in Austin, Texas, and decided to make movies together. The budgets were minuscule and the films largely improvised, but the acting was fresh and realistic and vibrant in the style of John Cassavetes. “A lot of Mumblecore was about awkwardness, especially with sex,” Gerwig says. “I think a lot of sex is very awkward. Instances of awkward lovemaking probably outpace instances of beautiful, seamless lovemaking, at least in my experience.”

Jennifer Lawrence
“As a kid I wasn’t shy. I’m an extrovert who wants to be an introvert.” Lawrence’s lack of shyness has resulted in one of the boldest performances of 2010: her Ree Dolly in Winter’s Bone. Like many actresses of her generation, Lawrence started young—at 14, she left her home in Louisville, Kentucky, and moved to New York. “I don’t know if I was driven or stubborn or both,” she explains. “But I didn’t think I could fail.”

Yaya DaCosta
“I want to do a silent film, even though it’s out of fashion now.” DaCosta, who studied dance as a child, has an innate stillness and elegance that would be ideal for the cinematic intensity of images without words. In 2009’s The Messenger she played an army wife who has lost her husband, and her grief went beyond speech. Similarly, when Mark Ruffalo tells her character in The Kids Are All Right that he wants to end their relationship, the shock and pain are registered in her eyes. “I grew up watching a lot of old stuff,” DaCosta says. “The first movie I remember seeing was The Red Balloon, which is silent, and it made me feel things that I’d love to make other people feel.”

Jessica Chastain
“I was the girl who never thought I’d be anything but an actor, so what I’ve really had to struggle with is having patience.” Born in Northern California and a graduate of Juilliard, Chastain was cast by reclusive director Terrence Malick to star opposite Brad Pitt and Sean Penn in The Tree of Life, in theaters this fall. He may have seen her performance in Salome, opposite Al Pacino, where she did the Dance of the Seven Veils. “My character’s goal was to give herself away,” Chastain says. “To be completely naked. So I went to some strip clubs in L.A. just to be, like, Okay, this is normal. There’s nothing taboo about it.”

The latest celeb news has top actress and star of recent movie Salt Angelina Jolie celebrating her son Maddox’s ninth birthday with a birthday party at Go Kart World in Carson, California. Jolie also recently told The Daily Telegraph that her family “is both my strength and my weakness.”

Mother of six and celebrity fashion trend maker Jolie, who is raising the children with Brad Pitt, told the Telegraph her kids make her “feel like the most important person in the world.” She also said she loves being able to live in different places around the world.

But her son’s birthday party couldn’t have been more All-American, with Maddox, his siblings and friends eating cake and pizza and zooming around the Mini Indy Track in Go Karts. Asked how she feels about Maddox getting his driver’s license for real in a few years, Jolie responded, “I’m not ready for any of it.”

With the season premiere of True Blood last night, the impending release of the new Twilight movie, and the constant Buffy reruns on LOGO, it only make sense to make a top ten list about the vamps who can feast on us anytime.

1. Eric Northman (True Blood)

He’s the epitome of the badass vampire. Ruthless, powerful, and sexy are three of the things that comes to mind when describing this True Blood villain. He was sort of sexy in the first season, but as soon as he chopped of his long lock, his appearance sky rocketed. With those looks he wouldn’t have to “glamor” anyone to have his way with them

2. Bill Compton (True Blood)

Bill is definitely the polar opposite of Eric. He is the vampire with the biggest heart even though he technically doesn’t have a working one. It is not hard to fall in love with him. I mean the way he says “Sookie” is enough to make anyone swoon.

3. Angel (Buffy The Vampire Slayer)

Angel seemed like the perfect boyfriend except for the fact he was a bloodsucking killer who’s face get disfigured when he went beastly. His looks were good enough to get his own short-lived spinoff.

4. Spike (Buffy The Vampire Slayer)

I like to call spike the Billy Idol of all vampires. He’s slick, manipulative, and that accent never hurt. No wonder Buffy kept going back for more.

5. Hannibal King (Blade Trinity)

I don’t believe many people paid the 10 bucks to see Blade Trinity, but if you did you were treated to the amazing Ryan Renolds as a vampire who kicked other vampires asses. You might want to rent it and just watch it on mute.

6. Lestat de Lioncourt (Interview With A Vampire)

Him and Brad Pitt. Yes Please!

7. David (The Lost Boys)

Two words to describe this character: Dangerous & Hot. Actually that is the same way I would describe Kiefer in real life.

8. Stefan Salvatore (The Vampire Diaries)

Not a huge fan of this show, but surely a huge fan of this picture.

9. Emmet Cullen (Twilight Saga)

I’ve never wanted to watch or read anything Twilight related, but the list would surely be lacking if I didn’t mention Kellan Lutz.

10. Count Chocula

Probably the most tasty vampire on the list.

THE MISUNDERSTOOD MR. COLTON

The widely misunderstood and misinterpreted Mr. Charles Caleb Colton (1780–1832) is well-known for his eccentricities. An English writer held up by scholars as an example of someone often quoted, yet rarely understood. Colton’s forgotten work includes books and collections of epigrammatic aphorisms and short essays on conduct, like Lacon, or Many Things in Few Words, addressed to those who think., Lacon, Vol. II, The Conflagration of Moscow, An Ode on the Death of Lord Byron, and an unpublished poem of 600 lines called Modern Antiquity, all of which has phenomenal popularity in Colton’s time. In the present-day Colton is one of the most quoted author since the twentieth century, and on the book Lacon, volume I, no. 183 is one of my most favorite quotes of all “Imitation is the sincerest of flattery.”

Like the Englishman, Mr. Colton I feel I am widely misunderstood and misinterpreted sometimes, and I seek refuge on books, books give me a high that no opium in the world can ever give, no critic in the world can ever sabotage, books don’t judge, it’s just there to nurture you, and to heal you, now I sound like a hippie, but being a “photographer” who shoots men with six packs or eight packs (its fun) like the rest of the fashion industry, I can’t help but feel “shallow”, especially when most of the people around you quotes “Madonna” and “Ana Wintour” like their “Jesus Christ” or “Buddha”, excuse the pun.

ROLL WITH THE PUNCHES, TOMORROW’S ANOTHER DAY

I’m working now on a novel that channels my creative energy, my juicy life experiences, my fantasies, my hopes, and my secrets into a book, I’m working with a published fiction author/ghostwriter and an editor to help me polish what I wrote and just hope it pays off. I remember writing about my mother for a short story contest back in highschool, if it’s any sign at all, I bagged the first prize, and I remember the judges actually thought it was written by a senior when I was a sophomore at that time, it was the same ART WEEK, I also got the first prize for a painting competition. Another thing Filipinos are known for, “they are all fighters”, they thrive on adversity, “Roll with the punches, tomorrow’s another day” like in the movie Jerry Maguire. The greatest and the most literal symbol of those punches is the island nation’s great 21st century hero, he is a fighter who always roll with the punches of life, known to boxing fans and aficionados of the world as “Pac-Man” and the cover boy of the latest Time Magazine Asia Edition, the unstoppable force in the boxing world, Manny Pacquiao. One of the inspiration for the latest cover of MATE MAGAZINE that I took in L.A. and out this month as their year ender for 2009, with the actor/model Marco Dapper.

NAVO: COPYCAT OR PAYING HOMAGE

I love the sadomasochistic film “Fight Club” (1999) based on the Chuck Palahniuk novel that starred Brad Pitt as Tyler Durden and Edward Norton as The Narrator, this film adaptation will always be on my top ten list of best movies in the last decades, I also love the David Cronenberg car-crash fetish film “Crash” (1996) based on the J.G. Ballard novel starring James Spader as James Ballard. Fire is also an important element in the novel that I’m working on, obviously I’m in the mood of burning things, creatively I’m on my “arsonist mode”. The Steven Klein Cover of Justin Timberlake for Arena Homme Plus that never got published to respect the 9/11 attack, they published an alternate cover without the US flag icon, and noted that along with the first cover choice on the inside page with this explanation. Now the million dollar question is, am I a copycat or paying homage? Let the years where my true inspirations talk, Fight Club was released 1999, Crash was 1996 and the Steven Klein’s “Alternate” Arena Homme Plus Cover was on 2001 (a pivotal year for most of us), whether Mr. Klein have seen Brad Pitt’s Fight Club and David Cronenberg’s Crash, one thing is for sure, Mr. Klein worked with Brad Pitt several times and I’m 100% sure he has seen it. Does Film, Magazines, Books and People inspire me?, YES. Do I love Steven Klein’s work?, YES. Is there a lot of “COSMOPOLITAN Magazine educated, PEREZ HILTON wannabee bloggers” out there? YES. Did I pay homage or I ripped off a Steven Klein? You’ll be the judge of that, along with the people who judged, misunderstood, and misinterpreted the man who coined “Imitation is the sincerest of flattery.”

I suppose I should think it’s endearing that Brad Pitt was willing to dress up like a character from the children’s show Yo Gabba Gabba for Halloween, but he looks like a giant orange Q-Tip. Angelina Jolie went as the walking dead, Shiloh was a jet fighter, Zahara was Batgirl and Maddox was a dead soldier (eek). The youngest and Pax were nowhere to be found. What do you guys think of this Q-Tip with underwear on the outside?

Growing up in the 90′s, travelling the world, I witnessed the great influence of American Pop Culture wherever I go, Tom Cruise’s 1986 TOP GUN poster stapled on a barber shop in Boystown, Pattaya-Thailand, Brad Pitt’s 1994 Legends of the Fall poster in a “mostly censored” movie rentals in Al Khobar-Saudi Arabia, Leonardo Dicaprio’s life-size cardboard cutout in the streets of Lan Kwai Fong-Hong Kong, Jason Priestley and Luke Perry’s of Beverly Hills 90210 in the 1990′s all over the notebook covers of teenage girls (and boys) in my highschool in Manila, I have to confess I bought my first Tiger Beat with River Phoenix cover to wrap my Calculus Textbook (to get me through my most boring class ever).

James Dean

In an “fun experiment” by Irina Aleksander on her article “The New Male Beauty” (June 23, 2009) for The New York Observer. She suggested that the latest “It boys”sort of look alike– High School Musical’s Zac Efron, Twilight’s Robert Pattinson, Gossip Girl’s Chace Crawford, Star Trek’s Chris Pine, Hairspray’s James Marsden, Fantastic Four’s Chris Evans and the list goes on, and she calls it the NEW MALE BEAUTY: those wide-set eyes, the narrow nose that flares up at the tip just so, the childish puffy cheeks and the not-too-rugged jaw lines, topped with carefully placed strands of layered hair. Although I agree with her that this twenty-something James Dean doppelgänger’s has been dominating the box office and prime time tv this decade, whats new? Since James Dean starred in Rebel Without a Cause (1955), he’s reincarnation’s in the “Male Beauties” of the 60′s (Warren Beatty), 80′s (Tom Cruise), 90′s (Leonardo Dicaprio) has always been prominent. The 2000′s Young Hollywood cannot deny the fact that “another swoopy-haired, pretty-faced actor dominating the box office” has started in the 50′s. Although I was born in the 80′s and Tom Cruise was the king, I acknowledge the fact that on my list of top 10 Male beauties of all time, it’s a not a Mr. Pattinson or a Mr. Efron topping my list- its the original, Mr. Dean.

River Phoenix
(August 1970 – October 1993)

The American film actor who starred in Gus Van Sant’s 1991 Semi-documentary footage of Seattle street hustling “My Own Private Idaho” is one of the reason I fell in love with american filmmaking, not only its sexiest Homosexual road movie ever made, its casted perfectly with beautiful talented stars all at the top of their respective games. The film’s success solidified Phoenix’s image as an edgy actor with leading man potential, without even trying, he is the most authentic reincarnation of James Dean’s beauty and talent in the 90′s.

Yes, its not a surprise Mr. Pitt’s in the list, has been cited as one of the world’s most sexiest men over and over again in some top 10 list all over the world. But I can’t help but put him in this one, because am only human. Most of my favorite movies of all time are starred by Brad Pitt, and three of the sexiest and most beautiful characters that the silverscreen ever produced he had played – J.D., the cowboy hitchhiker who seduces Geena Davis’s character in the 1991 road movie “Thelma & Louise”, as Louis de Pointe du Lac in “Interview with the Vampire” (1994) – the most referenced vampire of this decades’ teen vampires and Tristan Ludlow in the 1994 drama “Legends of the Fall”, how can I resist?

There is something so mysterious about this American actor that I find so mesmerizing and beautiful, after 50 films and running, from “A Nightmare on Elm Street” to “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape” from “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” to “Pirates of the Caribbean”, he just makes me ask for more.

(December 1948)

Aesthetically speaking if the Greek philosophers will have a perfect mold for the male beauty, it will be “Little Joe”s face. Thanks to Andy Warhol, the 70′s underground films will always have their nude James Dean. Although he never become a mainstream film star like Mr. Dean, Mr. Phoenix, Mr. Depp and Mr. Pitt –Mr. Dallesandro is a sex symbol of the 20th century in his own right, and an iconic beauty on my list. Like Mr. Phoenix he starred as as a beautiful teenage street hustler in the 1970′s film Flesh and hailed as one of the 10 most beautiful men Scavullo had ever photographed. As a photographer how can i disagree?

Gabriel Aubry
(January 1976)

“Quick, name one male model.” asked by Lauren Streib on her article “The World’s Most Successful Male Models”(May, 07 2008) for Forbes Magazine. Gabriel Aubry, Mark Fisher, Marlon Teixeira, Jon Kortajarena, and Greg Knudson and yes, Fabio doesn’t count. In my personal list of Top 10 Male Beauties of all time, it only make sense that half of them are models and three out of five are signed with Wilhelmina Models in New York City. All five of them have the moviestar goodlooks minus the Zoolander ego that plagued most male models this decade.

Signed to Wilhelmina Models in New York City, the only male model to ever appear on the cover of Uomo Vogue while appearing in 4 different campaigns at the same time, in the same magazine. Aubry is a Canadian male model, that has been the face (and body) of blue chip clients like Gianni Versace, Calvin Klein, DKNY, and Valentino, achieved supermodel status after modeling for Hugo Boss.

Mark Fisher
(January 1976)

One source of male beauties for me back in college are the men’s fashion magazines, I have converted my room in a mini-magazine library and nobody can avoid all the muses for more than four decades of the legendary photographer Bruce Weber, Mark Fisher is my favorite. Mr. Fisher is an American model best known for his campaigns for Abercrombie & Fitch, Polo, Versace and Ralph Lauren. In my book he is one of the original male models that carries the James Dean charm without even knowing it.

Fisher was born in Detroit, but grew up in Atlanta and considers himself a little boy from the South.

Marlon Teixeira
(September 1993)

Signed to Wilhelmina Models in New York City, Teixeira appeared on Dior Homme Campaign, the provocative Diesel Ad shot by Terry Richardson, the face of the 2009 Christian Dior Summer/Spring collection to name a few. The brazillian beauty is half Portuguese and has Indian and Japanese origins and at the very young age and early of his career he is becoming one of the top working male model right now.

(May 1985)

Those chiseled cheekbones, full pout and sexy stare has placed Spanish male model on my top 10 male beauties, signed to Wilhelmina Models in New York City,

Whenever people ask me who’s my favorite model I ever photographed, this American male model, native of california always come to mind,
I never thought I’ll ever meet a real life James Dean in my lifetime, but I did, and his body covered by Oriental tattoes of his gang memebrship on his teen years,
a troubled teen like the characters that James Dean, River Phoenix, Johnny Depp would ussually play in their films and his striking resemblance to Brad Pitt is uncanny.

Excerpt from my book Acknowledgement “STARK”: I remember buying my first photo book, Just Between Us by LA photographer Greg Gorman, when I was in Fine Arts college majoring painting. I will never forget that, because I had never before spent so much money on a book; but that day and from this day on I knew it was all worth it. The moment I saw Greg Knudson on the book cover in the display, I considered him the most beautiful person on the planet, and I still feel he is.

When I shot him in LA last year—8 years after I bought the book—Greg told me I might be the last photographer he would ever work with since he is thinking of retiring; he has worked with most of the top photographers in the 1990’s. Now he is gracing my photo book, and I am elated.

Boring Boring Boring At The Oscars

To be 100% honest, I do indeed understand the importance, and the formality, that comes along with The Oscars, but show some style guys. I made the mistake of actually sitting through all four hours of the program last night, and judging by the red carpet appearances I should have known it was going to suck. Why in all hell does everyone have to be so boring on the red carpet? The world’s biggest actors showed a true lack of creativity last night. Zac Efron, Daniel Craig, Brad Pitt, Robert Pattinson and Emile Hirsch (to name a few) all wore black on black suits, which is why none of them got an award. Are people so scared to break the stigma of a black suit on the red carpet? I’m embarrassed for men around the world who have to be compared to these clowns on a daily basis. I know it’s a recession, but show some balls Hollywood!!!

Honestly, she looks so matronly, her pants are way too long, and the suit itself hangs on her just like everything else she wears. The side swept up-do makes her look like she’s hitting 80 years of age.

Brad Pitt snagged the cover and a spread in the February issue of W magazine. When I first looked at the photos, my reaction wasn’t the most positive. But after scanning them for a few minutes, I warmed up to the rawness of his head shots. He looks very old Hollywood and handsome in the three inside photos; I don’t know if I would have picked this one for the cover though.

Y’know what’s so sad? Everybody is so worried about, “Oh My GAHD! Where is Jennifer’s wedding ring?” I thought it is was more important to notice how beautiful and radiant she looked after squeezing two screaming larva out of her birthing shoot. She should look like Jabba The Hut on disability. It’s obviously a Hanukkah miracle sent by sweet baby Jesus. I mean even the poster of Brad Pitt in the back istryin to check out that fine Puerto Rican fatback. I personally was completely and totally taken with her fabulous breastical balls. I thought it was Christmas already and Santa was paying me back for being a deadbeat when he didn’t bring me those D&G leopard print jeans that I wanted back in 97′. I’m still a little bitter about that………….Santa don’t let me catch you in the street!

Tyler Durden, I Mean Brad Pitt, I Mean Tyler Durden…

Brad Pitt’s enigmatic Fight Club antihero Tyler Durden has been crowned the Greatest Movie Character of All Time. And to show how much I agree, a gallery above has been added for your viewing pleasure.

Pitt’s turn as Durden beat Star Wars‘ Darth Vader into second place to top the poll by Empire magazine.

Third spot was taken by Heath Ledger’s The Joker in Batman movie The Dark Knight, while Star Wars’ Han Solo came fourth, and serial killer Hannibal Lecter from The Silence of the Lambs was in fifth place.

The top ten was rounded out by Indiana Jones, The Dude from The Big Lebowski, Pirates of the Caribbean’s Jack Sparrow, Ellen Ripley from the Alien movies, and The Godfather icon Vito Corleone.
