Fashion producer Chico Lowndes curated the exhibition that will feature 30 large-scale works and 30 original Polaroid shots from Klein’s collection. Among the pieces include images of Madonna, Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie, Tom Ford, and Justin Timberlake.

The Iguatemi Photo Series is a cultural initiative sponsored by Iguatemi Sao Paulo and  part of the largest chain of luxury shopping centers across Brazil, that aims to present the public with photography that goes beyond their typical mindset. on. Iguatemi Photo Series at MuBE has previously sponsored works by artists such as Guy Bourdin,  David LaChapelle, & John Rankin.

The exhibition will run from Aug 11^th-28^th.

The seeds of the protest were planted in 2008 when an inquiry by São Paulo’s public prosecutor revealed that out of 1,128 models booked for fashion week, only 28 were black. Oranizers  agreed to a voluntary two-year, 10% black model quota — affirmative fashion action — which many designers have reportedly ignored.

Protestors are now calling for a 20% quota in hopes of more accurately representing the Brazilian population, which is 50.8% black. However, that figure means nothing as consumers “still reject the combination of black [models] and luxury clothing”.

At least they do according to Vivian Whiteman, fashion editor of the Brazilian newspaper Folha de São Paulo. Whitey, as I like to call her, wrote an article on the Brazilian modeling industry’s rampant racism that included an interview with Bruno Soares, a booker of Afro-Brazilian descent.

“For historical reasons,” claims Soares, “Brazil’s black population has been poor and not a consumer of fashion. This is reflected in the casting.”

But for Frei Davi Santos, that bigoted cup just doesn’t hold water:

“Brazil is a country that still insists on emphasising its European side and discriminating against its beautiful indigenous and Afro-Brazilian populations. We do not want catwalks that look like catwalks in Switzerland or England.”

“It is clear that the FDA needs to take decisive action. An investigation by the Environmental Working Group revealed the FDA has received 47 complaints from salon workers and clients who experience adverse reactions and injuries (including hair loss, blisters, burning eyes, noses and throats, headaches and vomiting) as the result of giving or receiving hair straightening treatments.”

Barbara also apprenticed with Brazil’s leading designers; Reinaldo Lourenço and Gloria Coelho, Parents of Pedro.

Barbara Elias is the daughter of the successful Brazilian industrialist Marcus Elias who recently purchased “Group Daslu” Luxury Fashion Store’s in Brazil.

Georgia & MacKenzie

Yesterday, I was shooting a feature story for VOGUE Brazil in the Marais and on my way back after the shoot and in the company of my daughter Lewanna, my girlfriend Frédérique and the Make-Up artist
Maniacha we saw these two really cutely dressed girls. Both Frédérique
and I noticed them, I hesitated as they passed, swung around and said
“Excuse me, can I shoot you for our blog?” They responded with a New
York accent, “Shew why nat” (Sure why not).

Being that Lewanna was with me and has been encouraging me to do more street stuff, I said, “Hey Lewy, why don’t you take the photo…”

I asked Georgia & MacKenzie if they would send me the credits of their clothes & accessories as soon as possible. I am still waiting girls!!!

Georgia is on the left in beige and MacKenzie is in Forest Green. I love the symmetry.

(BR) A very successful Brazilian novelist once said “Be brave. Take risks. Nothing can substitute experience.” I absolutely agree.

I love the Brazilians, the way they live, the way they celebrate, the passion, the enthusiasm, the smiles, the sensuality, the pride, the diversity, the culture, the history, the food, the view from your hotel room, the optimism against all odds, and most of all- the beauty. Have I mention the enthusiasm and passion?

When the star of the latest blockbuster The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009) Robert Pattinson was asked in Jimmy Kimmel Live! in LA “Where in the world are the craziest (passionate) fans you’ve ever met while promoting New Moon?” the 23 yr old actor replied without hesitation “Brazil!”, and I wouldn’t be surprised. Have I mentioned the enthusiasm and passion?

The largest country in South America, the 55 yr old Peruvian fashion/celebrity photographer Mario Testino’s favorite destination to shoot his photo books, the world’s fifth largest country by geographical area, the world’s eighth largest economy, the world’s fifth most populous country, and the world’s largest population of fashion models and supermodels working today.

The sultry brazilian supermodel Adriana Lima said in an interview “If you look around Brazil you see pregnant women everywhere. Here you don’t see that as much. There the only thing they do is babies, babies, babies! Especially the poor families.”

Yes, Brazil is the home to a diversity of culture and wildlife, the home of the supermodels, and the home of the most photogenic landscapes and getaways in the world, my friend Antonio Bezerra (the blogosphere have known as Didio), my favorite São Paulo-based photographer is sharing NAIVEBOY.COM readers a slice of how he view this exotic wonderland through his lens.

Alexandre Herchovitch’s Spring 09 collection hit the runway during Sao Paulo fashion week in style. As models stole the runway sunglasses were the constant that completed each look. Jackets doned intricate design detail both with color and fabric choice as pants were selected to match. Skirts in this collection are never lonesome, they seem to make an abundant appearance alongside well-paired pants. Alexandre seems to know the importance of an accessory on the runway; it can make or break a look. Herchovitch noted about his collection, “It is a warning collection, a way of wearing fashion design as a protest, for freedom, compassion, love and equal rights for every human being.” Across the board, I think Alexandre delivered his point. There is no doubt that he made a statement.

After it came to a close earlier this week, the final word on São Paulo Fashion Week was “eclectic”—the urban personalities on display ranged from straight-up feminine to warrior spirit to sexed-up icons to cosplay-inspired collections that could have easily been transplanted to the streets of Tokyo. This last was especially appropriate as this SPFW marked the centennial of the Japanese migration to Brazil, and Kenzo starred as a special guest.

There were, of course, some common themes for the forthcoming Brazilian summer: washed-out hues, delicate fabrics and voluminous silhouettes. Aside from Maria Bonita‘s roomy overalls and Alexandre Herchcovitch‘s military/flower garden collage, emerging label Maria Garcia also made an impression with its girlish mini dresses with a twist. Femininity is in Isabela Capeto‘s blood, and this season she integrated Mexican iconography into her super-delicate embroideries and hand-crafted details. A nod should also be given to Reinaldo Lourenço‘s pretty dolls dressed on delicate latticework dresses.
