Today in 5 Steps to a Style Icon, we’re looking at a French actress who became the sex symbol of the 1960s with her long blond hair, smokey eyes and seductive gap-tooth smile. Want to know how to get Brigitte Bardot‘s effortlessly seductive look? We’ll teach you in five easy steps.

Brigitte makes the tuxedo shirt look très sexy. You'll love this version for it's luxurious silk/cotton hand and sheer, playful nature.

Channel her effortless, French style with black and white polka dots 'round your neck. Tie into a bow, and it's the only accessory you'll need.

Bardot's long, bodacious locks are easy to recreate, even if you don't have a natural wave. Prep before blow drying with a style primer and then set your hair with hot rollers. Brush out the curls and tease at your crown for extra volume.

Brigitte always rocked a kohl-lined eye and thick black eyelashes. Use an eyeshadow palette of lighter pinks and neutrals before applying Benefit's namesake liner. Finish with two coats of black mascara.

Perfect your pout just like the French bombshell with a nude lipstick that adds warmth to your skin tone. We've dubbed this Dolce & Gabbana shade the "miracle nude" because it looks great on everyone and doesn't have that chalky white "i look dead" effect.

The Twitterverse is abuzz over National Cleavage Day, which it turns out, is actually a thing. A thing sponsored by Wonderbra. The boob-supporter conducted a survey of a thousand women to find out who had the best cleavage with the winner having the prestigious honor of being inducted into the Wonderbra Cleavage Hall of Fame — also a thing. So who did women choose as the rack of ages?

Probably someone you’ve never heard of, if you live stateside. Holly Willoughby, the host of British daytime show, This Morning, beat out the boobylicious likes of Beyoncé, Scarlett Johansson and Marilyn Monroe for the crown of Best Celebrity Cleavage. Her parents must be so proud. Check out the gallery for the top 10 best breasts.

The bombshell is a creature at one with her sexuality — a lady, never a tramp, who uses her feminine wiles to seduce, control and if she so chooses, destroy. She’ll easily walk the fine line between good girl and trashbag and openly flirt with the dichotomy of Madonna and whore — and I’m not talking about that whore, Madonna. The bomnbshell is not merely a pretty face or a rockin’ bod — she’s a force to be reckoned with. It takes a little work, but anyone can learn the art of bombshelling. Just take a tip or three from the iconic bombshells of yore in these twelve classics films.

Bombshell (1933)

Jean Harlow ascended to her throne as the original blonde bombshell in this screwball comedy about disillusioned actress Lola Burns and her attempts at living a "normal" life. Spoiler: doesn't work out for her.

Gilda (1946)

Put the blame on Rita Hayworth, as the sexy, seductive and ultimately dangerous Gilda who comes between two friends. Not only a bombshell, Gilda is also a femme fatale and thus someone has to die at the end.

The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946)

"Sweater Girl" Lana Turner was at her best and sultriest as Cora Smith, a dissatisfied housewife who manipulates a drifter into murdering her husband. No one said being a bombshell was safe, kids.

Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953)

What would this list be without the ultimate bombshell, Marilyn Monroe? With fellow explosive lady Jane Russell, Marilyn steams up the screen while befriending diamonds and sugar daddies.

Carmen Jones (1954)

Dorothy Dandridge was a rarity in the 50s -- a blacktress who wasn't resigned to roles as domestics. In this all black adaptation of Bizet's opera, Dandridge broke all the rules -- and earned an Oscar nomination (the first Lead Actress nom for an African American, #nbd) -- as the unapologetically sexy title anti-heroine -- though this one ends with death also. I'm sensing a theme...

The Seven Year Itch (1955)

Marilyn returns to the list with perhaps her most iconic role and one of the sexiest moments in cinematic history. Since she stood over that subway grate, the world's never been the same.

The Girl Can't Help It (1956)

Following the popularity of Seven Year Itch and the blonde bombshell archetype, Hollywood did what it did best and bled a trend for all its worth. Enter Jayne Mansfield and her hypnotizing curves -- which, as the title suggests, she can't help.

...And God Created Woman (1956)

Brigitte Bardot, France's answer to Monroe, stars as a highly sexual orphan who takes up with pretty much every man in town; a role which subsequently -- and unsurprisingly -- shot her to overnight stardom and bona fide sex symbol status.

Suddenly, Last Summer (1959)

While there's a whole backstory involving cannibalism, lobotomy and homosexuality -- as well as Katharine Hepburn just generally shutting shit down -- the most indelible image from this classic is a buxom Elizabeth Taylor practically sewn into her white swimsuit.

Marriage Italian Style (1964)

Sophia Loren scored her second Oscar nomination -- she won in 1962 for Two Women -- as Filumena, a resourceful prostitute determined above anything to get her man. And I mean anything; faking a terminal illness is just the tip of the iceberg.

One Million Years B.C. (1966)

Though she only had three lines in the film, Raquel Welch's fur bikini spoke volumes and launched a new age of bombshell.

Barbarella (1968)

Along with a scantily-clad Welch, a scantily-clad Jane Fonda (wearing, when she was wearing anything, Paco Rabane, thank you very much) defined the late-60s sexpot and brought a generation of science fiction nerds successfully through puberty.

FashionIndie‘s sassbot intern one Ms. Jorge Bello interviewed celebrity hair stylist Patrick Melville for our sister site, Lookbooks.com. Melville’s credentials are numerous and he offers five holiday hairstyles to greet the season.

Do you know who invented Rihanna’s iconic haircut, “The Firefly”? Patrick Melville, renowned specialist in high fashion chic and red carpet glamour, did. This really comes as no surprise if one considers his track record. Patrick got his training in London while working for British Vogue and, from there, he went on to have his work immortalized by the lenses of Patrick Demarchelier, Gilles Bensimon, and Kurt Marcus (among others) for the pages of W, Vogue, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, and many more. Success is a stressful thing, but instead of taking a spa-cation, in 2007 Patrick opened The Patrick Melville Salon and Spa at The Sports Club/LA, the internationally reputed sports and fitness complex at Rockefeller Center. His sleek venue quickly became a top beauty destination, as it features all the amenities of a world-class spa—from luxury manicure and pedicures, to acupuncture as well as organic body and hair treatments—along with superb hair cutting and a full-service color bar. So if you were looking for a place to get your do done for those upcoming festivities, this would be it. Should you be unable to make the trip to Rockefeller Center, however, then check out these five practical holiday hairstyles from Patrick.

1. Asymmetrical chignon

Blow-dry hair out with large round brush to create a soft and loose texture. Use a ponytail holder and pull hair back into a low ponytail on the side of the nape of the neck. Take a tail comb and tease the ponytail lightly from root to end to create a messy, loose texture. Using a Mason Pearson brush, brush the top of the pony to smooth out the hair, twist it into a chignon, and secure with bobby pins. This is a quick and easy way to go from the office to a holiday party.

2. Very slick high ponytail

Blow hair out smooth and straight. Take a ponytail holder and a Mason Pearson brush and flip hair upside down. Holding your head upside down, brush the hair straight into a high ponytail. Secure with the ponytail holder. Spray any loose ends with a light hairspray to get rid of the fly-aways. To hide the ponytail holder, take a piece of hair from underneath of the ponytail and wrap it around the elastic. Secure with a bobby pin underneath. This will complete the look. It's very easy to accomplish and looks great with any outfit.

3. Disheveled French twist

Blow hair out straight. Spray the roots with a lightweight hairspray. Take a tail comb and divide hair into one-inch sections. Tease at the root throughout to create lift. Using your fingers, break up the hair to create a disheveled look. Pull the hair back and twist it into a French twist. Secure with long, straight pins. This look is supposed to be worn loose, and not too structured. Works great with any hair type or any length of hair.

4. The Brigitte Bardot

This is a very sexy look. Spray hair with lightweight hairspray. Take 1-inch sections throughout the whole head and wrap around a 1-inch curling iron from root to end to create spiraling curls. Once that is complete, take a tail comb and tease at root. Break up the hair with your fingers. Take some straight pins and pull hair back at the front and secure at the crown. This will give a little lift at the crown. Then pull soft wispy pieces around the face to create the sexy soft look. Smooth the top area of the hair lightly to hide any teasing that might be visible and then spray with light hairspray. Brigitte is a timeless sex symbol and this is a very flattering style for any woman.

5. Short hair

If you have short hair, and if you're looking to pump up the look for the evening, there are two things you will need. One is craft clay or pomade and the other is dry shampoo. To create the texturized, soft, sexy look, spray at the root with dry shampoo. In the palm of your hand, take a dab of pomade and rub your hands together to break down the product. Apply the product evenly throughout the hair to create a loose texture. You can wear the hair completely swept back off the face or bring pieces in to create chunky texture. Jewelry can be used in the hair to give it more of a holiday glam look. I think you'll see a lot of bling in the hair over the holiday season.

Patrick Melville

As further proof that rockstars are real people too (still debatable), there’s a set of 10 note cards now for sale with photos of musical legends and their loving animal counterparts. Did you realize that John Lennon was such a cat lover? Or that Patti Smith had a (presumably lucky) black cat? Or that David Bowie has a dog other than Diamond Dogs? The Morrison Hotel Gallery is giving 100% of the sales from this $20 box of cards goes to the charity Rational Animal, which raises awareness and money for the homeless animals in NYC and nationwide. See a sneak peek ahead and get all gooey inside.

John Lennon had a whole host of cats throughout his life. It started with the famed feline, Elvis, that he had with his mother (who they realized was a lady kitty once she had a litter in the house). In the early 60s, he and his first wife Cynthia and son Julian had 10 cats. The first was a Tabby cat named Mimi after John's aunt. With May Pang, he had two cats, black and white, Major and Minor. Then with Yoko and Sean came at least 6 cats, Salt and Pepper and Misha, Shasha, Charo and Alice.

Who can name the cat in this photo?

David Bowie and his dog max howl it out for Diamond Dogs.

Patti Smith shows no fear with her (potentially stray) black cat.

All the stars pictured in the set are John Lennon, Brigitte Bardot, Billie Holiday, David Bowie, Bob Dylan, Robert Plant, The Beatles, Patti Smith, Neil Young and Nelly. One for every kind of music lover there is.

Plus, this is a freaking adorable way to help little cats and dogs that don't have loving humans like our pets do. Well, they do have loving humans, but those guys are running the shelters, so there's really not enough lovin' to go around. And I mean, when you see the greatest musicians of all time nuzzling up with their pets, doesn't it just make you want to go out and adopt one?? Either way, go get your box-o-cute-cards online at the

Taking inspiration from throwaway materials and Frankenstein’s legendary monster, Dazed & Confused this month presents its ‘Franken-Fashion’ masks project… a unique creative collaboration with some of the world’s top designers, including such names as Alexander McQueen, Gareth Pugh, Martin Margiela, Hussein Chalayan, Roberto Cavalli, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac and Riccardo Tisci.

Each of the 13 designers involved created a mask especially for Dazed, using scraps lying around the designers’ studios – look out for rubber gloves, leather offcuts and even an old lampshade! Modelled by the fabulous Guinevere van Seenus, shot by Daniel Jackson and styled by Dazed senior fashion editor Karen Langley, while more Franken-fashion comes from Richard Burbridge, Magnus Unnar, Mark Pillai and Max Farago.

Turning green on the Hackney streets, Dazed also meets Laura Mulleavy of fast-rising label Rodarte to talk horror chic, while talented British actress Rebecca Hall take a break from theatre to discuss Dorian Gray, Woody Allen and sex dolls. Dazed also freaks out with the next generation of psychedelic artists, cutting up internet graphics and 80s TV ads to create mind-bending new works that reflect our media-saturated age. Meanwhile, the scuzzy musicians at the heart of the underground lo-fi music scene get real about whether it’s a movement or just a bunch of people making noise – with Wavves, Blank Dogs, Times New Viking, Woods, Kurt Vile, A Grave With No Name and many more.

Elsewhere in October’s Dazed, notorious installation artist Nancy Kienholz, cult comedy duo Tim & Eric, the world’s first black supermodel Donyale Luna, the Slits’ Ari-Up, Brigitte Bardot dressed as a superhero, and the most snappily dressed 60s apocalypse cult you’ll ever see.

The Dazed & Confused October ‘Franken-Fashion’ special issue is on sale on Thursday September 17.
