16 British Fashion Designers & Contemporary Artists Collaborate

A tight pack of British fashion designers and contemporary artists have paired off at the British Fashion Council’s discretion, to create eight installations for the London 2012 Festival. Backed by the BFC and Bazaar Fashion Arts Foundation, the event is set to raise funds for art and design scholarships. There are 16 creative minds already at work on the projects: Giles Deacon and Jeremy Deller, Hussein Chalayan and Gavin Turk, Jonathan Saunders and Jess Flood-Paddock, Mary Katrantzou and Mark Titchner, Matthew Williamson and Mat Collishaw, Nicholas Kirkwood and Simon Periton, Paul Smith and Charming Baker, Peter Pilotto and Francis Upritchard, and Stephen Jones and Cerith Wyn Evans. London Finally Decides to Man Up: Introducing London Men’s Fashion Week…end

Since time immemorial, men’s fashion in London has been relegated to the sidelines, tacked onto the last day of London Fashion Week when all the ladies have strutted their stuff and all the editors are running off to Milan. But no longer. The British Fashion Council has announced the creation of London Collections: Men, a full three days of menswear shows and presentations debuting in June.

British Fashion Council Names 2012 Fashion Forward Winners

Henry Holland, Mary Katrantzou, Louise Gray and James Long got a little help from their friends over at the British Fashion Council. The four were crowned the winners of the BFC’s 2012 Fashion Forward initiative, the Brit equivalent of the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award. Along with business support from the Council, the winners also get some much-needed cash to help in showing their latest collections.

Paris Responds to Fashion Week Calendar Controversy, Leaves DVF Speechless

And here we go again. The ongoing, and as it seems now, neverending, battle over the fashion week calendar and the “second Thursday rule” just got even more complicated as Paris’ Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture has decided to pretty much pretend that nothing’s been happening and will keep its 2013 and 2014 show dates; a move that left CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg “speechless.”

Fashion Calendar Debates Get Heated

It’s a case of she said/she said in the ongoing war over fashion week dates. Mario Boselli of the Camera Nazionale de la Moda claims the “Second Thursday” rule — fashion weeks would start on the second Thursday of February and September — was not a permanent solution and provided paperwork to back up his claim while CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg issued an open letter calling for solidarity and an end to the strife.

The Not So Fantastic Four: Fashion Capitals Eyeing War

New York, London, Milan and Paris. As any follower of fashion knows, those four cities are the main fashion capitals of the world and in that order their fashion weeks have progressed for what seems like time immemorial. Well, New York’s moving their fashion week to Sept. 13th to avoid conflicting with Labor Day, but that leaves Milan in a time crunch. And the Italians are not standing for it.
