Madonna Wore Three Givenchy Haute Couture Looks for Her Super Bowl Half Time Performance

Madonna sure knows how to make an entrance — that is, in haute couture on the backs of dozens of semi-clad, muscle-bound men. Meanwhile, that’s how I’d like to enter every room from now on.

For her much-hyped Super Bowl Halftime Performance (#GoGiants), Madge channeled the late Elizabeth Taylor in Cleopatra with a 13-minute extravaganza eleganza featuring “relevant” artists, Nicki Minaj, M.I.A., Cee-Lo Green and LMFAO.

To do justice to that great queen, the Queen of Pop turned to the house of Givenchy where Riccardo Tisi – who had designed costumes for her tour three years ago — was more than happy to conjure up some couture.

“People say everything has a limit, but limits do not exist with Madonna,” Tisci told WWD. “It is a great honor for me to be part of yet another historical and iconic moment.”

The Lady Ciccone also wore some white and gold diamond earrings from Bulgari, plus a stunning gold headpiece by none other than milliner king Phillip Treacy. Olsens Elect Prada Head for President of The Row

It’s an election year and in that spirit, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have already turned in their votes for president. The twin titans have hired François Kress, the current president and chief executive officer of Prada USA, as the new president and chief operating officer of The Row.

Kress comes with a long list of luxury credits to his name — before Prada, he was managing director and CEO of Bulgari North and Latin America and president of Fendi North America. The Olsens, clearly impressed with his haute history, created the post especially for him.

“His experience and sensibility will add great value to The Row in its next phase of development,” Ash told WWD. Then MK chimed in, “He quickly became the obvious choice for us and for the brand, having experience in multiple categories which we feel is essential for growth of The Row.”

To think, the Olsens were just looking for the perfect T-shirt when they started The Row nearly five years ago…now they’re luring away top talent from Prada. Our little girls are growing up so fast! Great, now I’m ferklempt. Pardon me while I pop in Double, Double Toil and Trouble. [WWD]

Wall Street Journal was occupied by women of the 1% persuasion that drenched themselves in $60 million worth of gems, diamonds and other precious stones for a shoot that required 16 armed guards. Though the diamonds themselves are worth protecting, these legendary women might attribute to the level of concern. Joan Juliet Buck, former editor of French Vogue shares her tremendous personal style and some insight into style points she cannot live without. And other formidable fashion elders let us in on what makes an older woman stylishly strong.

Joan Juliet Buck wears a unique blend of Yves Saint Laurent men’s perfume and Gerlain Shalimar together. And she always wears her father’s old watch.

Bulgari Sells to LVMH for $5 Billion

LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton continues its world domination of fashion. In recent LVMH muscle-flexing, the French retail giant is paying $5.19 billion to buy Bulgari.

LVMH shook its money maker at Bulgari, paying a 60 percent premium for all its shares – not exactly a cheap price. The buy awarded 50.4 percent control of Bulgari to LVMH, placing Louis Vuitton’s producer in the driver’s seat at Bulgari.

If LVMH were a mustard, it’d be Grey Poupon. It’s got class, and it reaches a global market with a deliciously fine-crafted product. Needless to say, Bulgari likes the deal, too. Hopefully the partnership won’t turn into a sour mustard stain.

Christina Aguilera is quickly becoming my favorite diva trainwreck, especially since everything’s relatively quiet on the Whitney Houston front. Apart from flubbing the National Anthem, nearly falling at the Grammys and passing out in Jeremy Renner‘s bed, Aguilera also called her brother’s girlfriend a whore and threatens to fire anyone who even suggests she might have a drinking problem. Xtina hasn’t inspired me this much since belting “Beautiful.”

These bags are beyond extraordinary. Matthew Williamson found some vintage inspiration when he designed his Bulgari handbag line.

“I had a pretty free brief,” the designer told InStyle UK, “so I skimmed the archives from about 1950 forward and came across the hexagonal shapes of the clutches that I embossed on the leather and that are also a part of the kaleidoscope print of the fabric bags. I added my own heart print for synthesis.”

If I don’t get my hands on one of these, I’m going to cry. But they’re clearly going to be hella expensive. “Obviously the Bulgari customer, who is a woman who appreciates great quality, glamour and luxury,” Williamson said. “In a way, they are the same principals of my own customers, although I see my line as slightly more bohemian and more relaxed.”

I’ve said it before, there something about Julianne Moore that inspires fashion photographers to treat her like a work of art. While, unlike in exhibit A and exhibit B, photographers Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott don’t recreate previously existing works of art, the mood of this year’s Bulgari’s campaigns ooze an art feel.

Wearing nothing but Bulgari bags and jewels, Julianne is sprawled against lush and decadent scenarios, having parrots (in the Spring Summer stills) and lion cubs (in the Fall Winter stills) as her companions.

Winona Ryder Under Investigation for Missing Jewelry

Uh oh… Winona Ryder is under investigation after claiming she ‘lost’ a Bulgari bracelet and ring worth over $125,000.

Ryder, who was convicted of shoplifting in 2002, wore the jewelry to the Marie Claire party Prix De La Mode 2008 Awards at the French Embassy in Madrid. She said she gave the pieces to a hotel employee for safekeeping. And, yes, this was the party she was on her way to when she OD’d on Xanax on a flight.

Get your act together, Winona; it’s not looking good lately!
