Calvin Klein’s cocktail party and panties preview in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday night was equal parts pool party and orgy (not really but that’s what it looks like).

Some illustrator with a hard on had a little to much dick time on his hands. He decided to reimagine a bunch of Disney princes as Calvin Klein underwear models. The result: creepy.

RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Calvin Klein S/S 2010

RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Calvin Klein S/S 2010 fashionIf Francisco Costa is good at one one thing, it’s designing an appropriate collection for its season. Calvin Klein Spring 2010 was yet another textured collection I’m just dying to touch. The natural, organic aesthetic radiates in Costa’s play with sheers and opaques as well as his manipulation of fabrics by puckering and pulling them. Unlike the hard and edgy lines of Calvin Klein Fall 2009, this season is reviving the soft, natural innocence we know and love.

E. Houston Just Got Sufficiently Lamer

E. Houston Just Got Sufficiently Lamer fashionE. Houston Just Got Sufficiently Lamer fashionAs if the iconic DKNY black and white painting being replaced by a drab Hollister advertisement didn’t make the appeal of E. Houston street crumble enough, leave it up to conservative bystanders to ruin the sexy Calvin Klein threesome for all. Last weekend, I recall walking up Lafayette, and to my amazement, found myself staring at Steven Miesel’s orgy of an ad for a solid 5 minutes. I mean, hey, anyone with hormones would too, right? Yesterday, after much parental uproar, the billboard was replaced by a Calvin Klein swimsuit ad.

Sure, the first billboard was a racy, but that’s Calvin Klein for you and we all know that sex sells. To be honest, I wouldn’t be surprised if people argue that the new bikini billboard is giving the wrong image about female body-types. Whichever way you look at it, there is always going to be someone who disapproves.

As I digress, here’s what I have to say to those right-winged complainers, responsible for making E. Houston LAME: Your daughter has done much worse.

Thanks Racked!

I’m only interested in Eva Mendes when she’s not attempting to act. Seriously, Eva, just focus on doing whatever it is your doing in these ads and leave the acting to the Jolie’s and Hathaway’s of the world, your attempt at being whatever it is your trying to be (my guess is a respected actor, but someone who makes bank at the cinema is another noble cause) isn’t happening, cause you can’t act chica, you really, really, really, really, really suck huevos at it.

Is Arnhem the New Fashion Capital?

admin June 12 at 9:50 | Comments

Is Arnhem the New Fashion Capital? fashion

Arnhem a city in the Netherlands which is described as a new direction in fashion.

Surprisingly, Arnhem has been off the fashion radar up until pretty much now, despite the fact that the fashion festival, Arnhem Mode Biennale, engulfs the whole city at once, celebrating the works of other dutch and european designers. With installations from fashion legends such as Calvin Klein, Viktor&Rolf, Maison Martin Margiela, Balenciaga, and of course the big guns; this is a festival for the fashion deprived to learn of fashion’s heroes.

Beautiful as it is, I wish every county had a city as inspirational as Arnhem, celebrating fashion as it is supposed to be, not as a taboo as it is in some counties. In simple terms, I think London should celebrate british and european designers in the same light, as London exports so much talent, if a festival was held as a tribute, it would be a worldwide celebration!

Models At The Met

Models At The Met fashionBeing exposed, first hand, to all the glorious fashions from runway shows and editorials, one would think that models would steal the the best dressed award on last night’s Met Gala red carpet. While Chanel Iman, in her stunning Zac Posen dress, was a show stopping attendee, Shalom Harlow looked rather homeless and out of place in her crumpled, Gareth Pugh-ish garbage bag. Brooke Shields looked like a mermaid body builder. Agyness Deyn was an over-bronzed transvestite. Brooklyn Decker rocked out a Mary-Kate worthy outfit. All in all, the model fashion was skewed across the board. Tsk tsk…I expected big things from such fashion relatives.

It’s always interesting to see how certain runway pieces translate into event outfits, especially when they are worn by real life women instead of models. I also love that some pieces are altered to be more ‘ready to wear’ which gives them more life, although I must admit that it’s not fair that celebs get to wear collections not yet available for me to purchase.

BEHIND THE BEAUTY: S/S 09 Trends

This season, it’s all about the skin, glowing skin. All of the catwalk makeup looks had a clash of bold colors vs neutral nudes. I picked two makeup looks from the runway that I like. With so many great looks, from the red pout to the All-American peachy glow, let me know which makeup style works best for you.

NUDE

Brown shadows are worked around the eye with curled, mascara-free lashes and cheekbones are highlighted with pinky taupe blusher. A dash of shimmer across the cupid’s bow and don’t forget the neat brows.

GLOW

Suitable for all skin tones, this look gets you glowing with blushers, eye shadows and lipsticks in varying peachy hues for a sculpted, sun kissed look.

PASTELS

Pale green, pink and lilac shadows give an almost futuristic appeal. In some cases eyes, lips, and cheeks were accentuated.

REDS

Red lips are back in a big way. The shade to the model’s skin tone – a mix of reds and pinks is mixed directly onto lips.

THE BLACKOUT

Eyes took on a twist. Lids were lined with plenty of black kohl, tapered at the edges of the eye for a winged effect.

Who Is The Next Fashion Saviour?

Who Is The Next Fashion Saviour? fashionWho Is The Next Fashion Saviour? fashionWho Is The Next Fashion Saviour? fashionWho Is The Next Fashion Saviour? fashion

People are always looking for the next Donna, the next Ralph, or the next Calvin. (sorry Tommy, we never consider you a fashion designer) but no one ever acknowledge that there may not be a next big fashion business bearing a designer’s name. Consider this: after the big 3, name another designer with his/her business over 1 billion dollars. The answer is: 0. It’s very typical of fashion to prefer the system to remain unchanged.

Let’s look at new york. Marc? His business is tiny comparing to Louis Vuitton. Micheal Kors? Those old Tommy business guys, Lawrence and Silas, brought Kors 6 years ago and proclaimed it will be a billion dollar business. They are stuck at the middle. Our personal favorite: Narciso Rodriguez? Liz Claiborne brought 50% for a mere 10 million, then return it back to the designer late last year. We assume for much less. Then we have those wunderkind kids one after another; remember Zack? What about Jeffery Chow? It’s ok, because now we have the Wangs and the Wus. But would they be like Calvin?

Yes, some designers would claim that they would like to remain small and ‘intimate’. Fine, but you should also know that we are some of the most egotistical creatures. We want fame, money, and sway, in that order. To drive any real influence, one will need to reach the mass (say hi to Issac Mizrahi). To do that, you need cold hard cash. A billion of it.

What companies blew up so big in the part 10 years? Juicy. Sven. Zara. H&M.

Can we see a pattern and the future here?
