This year’s Fashion’s Night Out events will be packed with celebrities, designers and freebies; so much to do, so little time! In this list you’ll find events that are obvious, such as Barney’s, Burgdorf Goodmans and Saks Fifth that will probably be over-packed; interesting – my personal top pick will probably be the Balenciaga event; and events where you’ll have a chance to win, well, free stuff.
These are Fashion Lover’s FNO 2010 picks:
Balenciaga
542 West 22 Street btw. 10th and 11th Aves
At Balenciaga’s flagship Chelsea store you will get a first look at the U.S. exhibition debut of the Cindy Sherman: Untitled (Balenciaga) Series. The exhibition installment will include six photographs on loan from François Pinault’s collection. At 9 PM there will be a live musical performance by Karen Elson, performing songs from her debut album The Ghost Who Walks, produced by Jack White.
Dolce & Gabbana
825 Madison Avenue at 69th Street
Join Naomi Campbell to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of her career. A collection of limited edition t-shirts featuring, you guessed it, Naomi Campbell’s images will be available for purchase, signed by Campbell herself. The proceedings of the T-shirt sales will go towards Campbell’s charity – Fashion for Relief.
T-shirts will be signed from 6:30pm to 9:45pm.
Saks Fifth Avenue + Thierry Mugler
611 5th Avenue
Saks Fifth Avenue store event will include appearances by the likes of Donna Karan, Victor & Rolf, Charlotte Ronson, Zac Posen and Taboo of the Black Eyed Peas. The event promises a fashion sketch-off competition between the celebrities.
Thierry Mugler, meanwhile, also invites you to Saks Fifth Avenue to view the famous Motorcycle Bustier as worn by Beyoncé for her I AM…Sasha Fierce album. We, the 80′s born generation, remember it better from George Michael’s “Too Funky” video (the ultimate fashion video).
Salvatore Ferragamo
655 Fifth Avenue
The event will celebrate and focus on Massimiliano Giornetti’s first women’s collection for Ferragamo and launch the Ferragamo W bag; designed back in the 70s exclusively for Mrs. Wanda Ferragamo, the House matrianch. Elettra Weidemann, Alek Wek, Caroline Winberg, Ashley Wick and Arden Wohl are expected to be in attendance. A percentage of sales will benefit the Whitney Museum of American Art.
Anya Hindmarch
115 Greene Street
Anya Hindmarch’s Soho store invites you to pose for a photo with a bag from the Fall 2010 collection. The most creative image will be chosen by Anya herself and the winner will be sent the bag they posed with.
Barneys New York
660 Madison Ave
Barneys New York probably planned the most activity and fashion icons packed event. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Proenza Schouler’s Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough, Isabel and Ruben Toledo, Rodarte’s Kate and Laura Mulleavy, Rag & Bone’s David Neville and Marcus Wainwright, Shipley & Halmos’ Sam Shipley and Jeff Halmos, Daphne Guinness, Julie Gilhart, Simon Doonan, Alexander Wang and more are expected to be in attendance.
The Olsens and the Proenza Schouler duo will judge a karaoke contest and you’ll get the chance to participate in a doubles ping-pong match against the designer duos.
When you tire of name-dropping, you’ll have a chance to purchase a special edition FNO Alexander McQueen scarf.
Bergdorf Goodman
754 Fifth Ave at 58th Street
Jason Wu, Mary J. Blige, Nicole Richie, Simon Spurr, Thom Browne, Tom Ford and Victoria Beckham will all be making appreances at the event. Activity highlights include a Face-Off makeup artist competition judged by BryanBoy, Catherine Malandrino, Hamish Bowles & Trish McEvoy; and a designer+dog catwalk (insert ironic remark here) with Bibhu Mohapatra, Georgina Chapman, James Mischka and Mark Badgley, Reem Acra, Lela Rose and Thakoon Panichgul trotting their best stuff along with their four-legged companions.
DOTS
Soho
Participate in a scavenger hunt-themed styling contest in multiple Soho New York-based locations called Dots SPOTS. Follow clues and choose your favorite Dots pieces to create your personalized Dots look! Celeb stylist Mia Morgan will judge as participants enjoy refreshments and have their photos taken on the pink carpet. Winning looks will have a day of beauty and styling with Mia Morgan, a new Dots wardrobe and a trip for two to a tropical location! Follow @Dotsfashions and @kingcollective on FB & Twitter for more details.
Opening Ceremony at Ace Hotel
1190-1192 Broadway
Opening Ceremony will stage a French flea market in the lobby of the Ace Hotel. Brands like agnès b., Alexander Wang, Band of Outsiders, Deyrolle, Joseph Altuzarra, Keds, Ladurée, Patrik Ervell, Proenza Schouler and Rodarte will have their own booths with exclusive items.
Rag & Bone + 3.1 Phillip Lim
119 Mercer Street
3.1 Phillip Lim and Rag & Bone, both Mercer Street retailers will co-host a street party with a live DJ and real people’s food (i.e burgers, fries and shakes). Rag & Bone’s Marcus Wainwright and David Neville will help you pick your Fall look. They probably won’t have much time though seeing how they also have plans to play ping-pong at Barney’s FNO event.
Helmut Lang
819 Washington Street
Helmut Lang will also have a street party featuring L.A party photographer/blogger the Cobrasnake. Brace yourself for an event packed with cool games, prizes and other special surprises; with music by DJ’s Harley Viera Newton and Cassie Coane; cocktails by East Village’s Death & Company.
Mulberry
605 Madison Avenue
The highlight of the planned event is the chance to win two tickets to the Spring/Summer 2011 Mulberry New York Fashion Week show. You can also expect goody bag give-aways.
Burberry
131 Spring Street
At the Burrbery event you’ll have a chance to win two tickets to the Spring/Summer 2011 Burberry show in London. A percentage of sales made at the event will go towards the Burberry Foundation.
Furla
598 Madison Avenue
The store will be transformed into the Land of Oz. You will get to shop the new Furla + Leitmotiv handbags collection while enjoying cocktails and hor d’oeuvres. I suppose I should also mention the 20off voucher you’ll get if you spend over $400.
