Kirsten Dunst in Patrik Ervell — I feel like I’m experiencing a Kirsten Dunst renaissance. First she wins the top acting prize at Cannes, now I actually like her choice in red carpet attire? What goes on here? Though honestly, I’m always a sucker for a woman in a tux and a high bun.

Karolina Kurkova in Diane von Furstenberg — An emerald, hooded jumpsuit, sashed at the waist? Karolina literally looks like the ghost of Grace Jones…and she very well might be since god knows where the hell that brick house full of crazy is these days.

Chloë Sevigny in Chloë Sevigny for Opening Ceremony — Leather and lace and giving face. Nothing’s wrong with a little free self-promotion, though her lady humps seem to be angling for some attention all their own.

Betsey Johnson in Betsey Johnson — Why the hell not? Betsey looks great — and in all black! — but the tulle ballerina skirt remains in tact, if only a few inches south. But for girls our age, Bets, everything ends up heading south eventually.

Chanel Iman in BCBG Max Azria — Lady and the vamp! Looks like Chanel and Karolina both hopped on the same 70s soul train, but with a bit of leg, a flash of cleav and a shoulder or two, Chanel is ready to steam up some mirrored disco balls.

Call me crazy just as long as you call Michelle Harper perfect. I’m not sure what she’s wearing, but I want one in every color.

Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen in The Row — I’m convulsing over MK’s gold lamé jacket, I just wish Ash had chosen to accessorize a little more. Hair up, statement necklace and a cat eye never hurt anyone. The Row bags, while cute, also look like mini-briefcases, which for an evening dress, is a little jarring.

Vera Wang in Vera Wang – Vera, Vera, Vera. While I love a cowl neck, this look makes Morticia Addams look like Patricia Goddamn Field. Where’s the color? Where’s the fun? I would’ve taken a beading wedding gown over this funereal frump any day of the week.

Erin Fetherston in Erin Fetherston — The CFDAs might have to instill a ban on designers dressing themselves. Though the dress is lovely — and that bang is flawless — the color washes Erin out completely. Also, another lack of accessories! Does no one wear jewelry anymore?

Tory Burch in Tory Burch — You can try to dress up a burlap sack as much as possible, but then it’s just a burlap sack with some awful polka dots and some even more awful ill-placed beads. Or bottlecaps. What are those actually?

Sessilee Lopez in Zac Posen — One question: why? An old lady dress on a stunning, young supermodel still looks like an old lady dress. And frankly, I doubt any dames of a certain age would be caught dead wearing this. It’s unflattering, there’s too much going on about the bodice and worst of all it looks cheap. The MOMa’s Garden Party benefits the museum’s Annual Fund and the maintenance of The Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden and last night’s attendees were of an appropriately distinguished lot.

But for every Mayor Michael Bloomberg or Larry Gagosian there was a Chloë Sevigny or Aziz Ansari who perhaps didn’t come for the dinner (with tables going for $25,000 to $100,000, who could blame them?) but for the after-party at the museum’s Terrace 5 Lounge.

The line for that party stretched down 54th St — filled with people who didn’t cough up the $500 for VIP tix, no doubt — and by the time Kanye took the stage at 11-ish, there were an extra 1500 guests ready to rap-sing along to their favorite tunes.

His set, a little over an hour, was punctuated by Jay-Z who was apparently granted permission to leave the penthouse from wifey, Beyoncé. Jay then ordered the crowd to go H.AM. — and if you’re as out-of touch with today’s hippity-hop as I am, that means “Hard As A Motherfucker. “

If only I could’ve seen Mayor Bloomberg fucking shit up with Chloë and Aziz, my life would be complete. [WWD]

Let’s take a look at the Best Dressed of the night. This category has quite a bit of people, as it should, for fashion’s biggest event. These were the As and high Bs, the working girls.

Shalom Harlow is my pick for BEST DRESSED in Marchesa. This is what the Met Ball is all about – she looks breathtaking in that gown.

I almost fell over when I saw Christina Ricci in Zac Posen. She never ages a day and looks super sexy in this sheer number.

I found Mary-Kate’s dress underwhelming, but Ashley Olsen looks ravishing in vintage Dior Haute Couture. The whole look is perfect.

Elle Fanning looks like a little couture doll in Valentino. She is so outshining her sister, it’s not even fair.

Rihanna has been looking haggard lately, so I was pleasantly surprised at how elegant she was in this striking Stella McCartney gown.

Iman, also in Stella McCartney, turned it out in a metallic gold jumpsuit. A little draggy, a lot amazing.

Karolina Kurkova in a spring 2011 Jean Paul Gaultier lace legging-dress creation. If the models can’t do it, who can?

I love this Prabal Gurung gown and funky jewelry on Ciara. White could be difficult to pull off at the ball, but she did it right.

Even though Crystal Renn is too skinny for my taste, she is an absolute vision in Alexander McQueen. I need my hair to look like this.

After getting ready in a Barneys window yesterday, Daphne Guiness showed up in McQueen. Perfect, amazing, stuns.

I loved Ginnifer Goodwin‘s look from the moment  I saw it. Then I realized it was custom Topshop. Damn she makes it look good.

Naomi Campbell looks like the queen she is in custom McQueen. She wears the sedatives well too.

Hamish Bowles looks like a true gentleman in custom McQueen. Love it from head to toe.

I always wait with baited breath to see what Blake Lively is wearing. She obviously did not disappoint in a Chanel toga.

New York’s best couple showed up looking better than ever. Beyonce is working that Emilio Pucci gown like whoa.

Queen Bitch Anna Wintour gave her best smile to the camera and looks like a shiny grandiose statue in Chanel.

On to the Most Boring of the night. On any other occasion, these folks would have looked great (probably). Unfortunately, this also means they’re the Cs of the Met Ball.

I’m sleeping. Zoe Saldana is usually among the best dressed. Why did she choose this boring Calvin Klein for the biggest fashion night of the year?

Leighton Meester is amazing, but she has trouble getting it right. Different shoes and hair would have done this Louis Vuitton dress more justice.

I love this Michael Kors dress on Emma Roberts, but she has the body to wear something more over the top on a night like this.

Madonna, the Material Girl herself, definitely could have done better than this Stella McCartney dress. Pretty, but boring.

I’m actually quite obsessed with this Miu Miu dress Michelle Williams is wearing. But I would wear this to a nice dinner, not a gala.

And now ladies and gentleman, the Worst Dressed of the night. These are the Ds and Fs of the Met Ball, the creme de la creme of mistakes.

ARGH! Christina Hendricks used to dress so well! This Carolina Herrera gown is an unflattering fit and color on her.

Oh dear. Hate to say it Alicia Keys, but it looks like you’re wearing a giant turd instead of Givenchy. Brown jacket AND dress is NOT fly.

Jennifer Lopez looks like a halfway plucked bloody chicken. Matchy-matchy lipstick, bag and Gucci is a no go.

I thought Chloe Sevigny would make McQueen look good, but I was wrong. The hair is awful and the dress fits like she grabbed it off some rack.

Sorry to say it Kate Hudson, but this Stella McCartney is not a cute pregnant lady dress. And whatever is on your head isn’t working either.

Nooooo! In the rush of preparing for the gala, Lucy Liu forgot to get a wax! Oh wait, that’s just her looking blech in Vionnet.

Whenever I take up a new sport or activity, I like to immerse myself in the culture of the people and their lifestyle. Skateboarding has an incredibly different sub-culture to anything I have encountered before, in fact it seemed as though my life was turned upside when I began meeting and interacting with other skaters. I went from deciding what I would order from the Donna Karen AW Collection to deciding which Roxy tees would be most maneuverable in. One aspect of the culture that I could relate to was the strong connection that many skaters have with graphics, art and photography. My teacher, Steve Olson has produced several art exhibitions, with many more in the pipeline, and it is clear that Olson is happiest when he can collaborate with his son.

Alex Olson, who is currently one of the leading professional skateboarders, also has a talent for art and photography. I was led to his website www.olsonstuff.com and was impressed by his work. He posts daily on www.olsonstuff.tumblr.com which has garnered quite the devoted following. After spending a week or two looking through the photographs he chooses, as well as the questions he is asked and the answers he offers, I was intrigued to find out what motivated and inspired this young man, who, from an outside perspective at least, appears to have the world at his feet. Alex kindly agreed to be interviewed.

Kirsten Lea: Why did you start a tumblr page?

Alex Olson: I just liked it and wanted to do it.

K: Would you like it to lead to anything?

A: I mean if it got me somewhere that would be amazing and it would be hours well spent looking for images while I’m bored. I was never trying to shoot for something bigger I just like doing it and seeing other people’s stuff.

K: I notice a lot of skateboarders get involved in the art world. Why do you think that is?

A: It’s another job, like skating, where you’re your own boss.

K: Do you think it’s because pro skate boarders design their own boards and get used to drawing graphics?

A: I would never tell anybody that “I’m an artist” because it’s such an easy thing to say nowadays.

K: Why did you choose YSL?

A: I always liked that logo and thought it looked good and so I wanted to make it with my name.

Steve Olson: Do you think we could get a cease and desist for that? Whatever. It’s cool.

K: Alex, I’d like to give you a gift. What would rock your world?

A: I’m lost on this one.

Steve Olson: I don’t think he likes the term “rock your world”. Rephrase it.

K: I’d like to buy you a present. Money is no object for me and I love buying people gifts. You may not be materialistic, but what could I buy you that would make you really happy and reflect well upon me?

A: Well, I’d say something that we talked about in the past.  You would have to listen to know what I was into.

K: Okay, I’ll decide at the end of the interview….

K: You have good style in your skateboarding, but understandably, a career in skateboarding doesn’t seem to fulfill you. What are your ambitions?

A: I don’t know. I’d like to make a career out of something else. Not just one thing. I don’t feel safe with only one career option and nothing to fall back on.

K: Steve mentioned that you might be working with photographer Mario Sorrenti. What would you like to achieve from that collaboration?

A: Well you make it sound as if we’re going to be working on some project together. I was just trying to assist him but he was never in town so I never got to.

K: Do you take photographs to please yourself or for other people?

A: I do it for myself, mostly, but if I do it for others, I just want them to laugh. I don’t know. I don’t try to get too deep with the art thing. Those people bug the shit out of me. If you like it you like it, if you don’t you move on to something else.

K: The responses on your blog are very blunt and direct, particularly if you don’t like the question. Have you ever wanted to cultivate an image or on-line persona and if so, is that part of it?

A: No, that’s just me being myself

K: Do you ever consider how you come across?

A: Yes, I’m sure I come off as a dick but I’m just being truthful to what I think the Q & A is.

K: On your tumblr it says, “ask me anything”. So what do you like being asked about most?

A: I don’t ever think about this type of stuff. I don’t know. Sorry.

K: Well, what do you most enjoy thinking about or talking about?

A: Here we go again… I really don’t know. I don’t look for conversations. If they happen and they’re good, it’s amazing but I’m not a big talker.

K: What kind of person would you like to be?

A: A good person.

K: What style of comedy appeals to you most?

A: Dry comedy.

K: Who is your favorite film director?

A: I don’t have any.

K: We’re on a private jet for five hours. What movies do you want to watch?

A: I’m not the biggest movie guy. Something I haven’t seen?

K: Okay, you’re not into movies. Do you like documentaries?

A: Yes.

K: Do you prefer to edit footage yourself or have someone edit for you?

A: Depends on what I’m making.

K: I like your photography. My favorite is doubles! What is your favorite?

A: Lil Monster.

K: What compliments do you receive on a regular basis and which mean the most to you?

A: When someone really likes a skateboard trick I did or when someone likes my photos. Those don’t happen on a regular basis.

K: Are you being sarcastic?

A: No, it doesn’t happen everyday.

K: What creative outlets have you found to be the most expressive and fulfilling for you?

A: Photography and music. But I don’t feel that I’m expressing anything by it.

K: Do you think that you might be autistic?

A: I might be. I don’t know. I don’t think I am but I’m not sure. I could be.

K: Do you find it easy to remember phone numbers?

A: You’re just saying that because of my dad.

K: Yes, you totally called me out on that….

A: …. Not anymore. I used to remember the pattern of phone numbers but not the numbers themselves.

K: Do you find it difficult to care about other people?

A: It depends.

K: What would someone have to do for you to care about his or her wellbeing?

A: I’ve never thought about it. If I like the person a lot then I’d care about them.

K: Have you ever fallen in love to the point where you put their happiness before you own?

A: At one point in my life, maybe. That type of love is when you have kids.

K: What is the best date you’ve ever been on?

A: I hate dates. Maybe I should start to like them…

K: Yes, they can turn into some of the most special moments of your life…

A: … I’m not really a talker and that can be hard for the other person on the date.

K: That’s very thoughtful of you. The best date, for someone who doesn’t like talking, is going to movies, but you don’t like films. How ironic is that?

K: What is the best date you can imagine?

A: One that doesn’t feel like date.

K: Do you like to dance?

A: Yes. Mostly drunk.

K: What do you like to drink?

A: Beer or Vodka.

K: What is the best thing an ex-lover has ever done for you?

A: Cook for me.

K: What did she cook for you?

A: She would cook breakfast. Eggs on toast with tomato.

K: What is the most precious thing you have lost?

A: Friends.

K: What or whom do you value most in your life?

A: Friends, family and food.

K: You have two days alone with your lover. How would you like to spend them and where?

A: I don’t know. Where are we spending this so called “alone time”?

Upon my recent return from snowboarding, and at the on-set of spring, I found myself at a loss for an opportunity to hone my boarding craft in the off-season. Unwilling to take an eight-month sabbatical from the sport, I entertained momentary flirtations with a snowboard simulator but wondered about its ability to give me anything more than a mediocre core workout, one easily matched by a simple sit-up regime. I needed to substitute snowboarding with something that required similar movement and a push outside of my comfort zone. I decided to take up skateboarding.

Having no idea about which skateboard would work best for me, I chose a cute looking board by Moxie Girl (not to be confused with Roxy) and used the ballet bar in my dance studio to pull myself along the hardwood floor. To my credit, I was fearless from the start and even attempted several kick flips in the foyer, which I had dutifully studied on You Tube. However, when the board suddenly flew out from under my feet with reckless abandon, I concluded that some lessons might be required.

As it turned out, a friend of mine, born-and-bred California girl, had an in with the local surfer/skater community and a black book of professional skating contacts.  Without long consideration she decided that her good friend, Steve Olson would love to teach me and told me to email him.

Olson interviewed me via telephone before we met, asking me a variety of questions from what type of helmet and padding I had, to how strong my bones were and how flexible I was. Before agreeing, he kept repeating that he “didn’t normally teach” which I thought was strange since I had assumed he must be a professional skateboard instructor. Yet he agreed to meet for a trial lesson.

Professional he was. I was later informed he was a former World Champion. No pressure on me, then.

Upon arrival at my first lesson, Olson took one look at my cute little Moxie board and shook his head as if to imply I had brought shame upon the sport. He spent about ten minutes explaining why this was not a well designed board, though he admitted he could see how the graphic would have appealed to me. He then moved on to my attire. I was reprimanded for wearing Ugg boots and the suggestion that I trade them for my Dior biker boots was equally unwelcome. Apparently, I needed to purchase Vans.

“So have you stood on a skateboard before?” he asked. I truthfully admitted that, other than my few attempts in the dance studio, I found the prospect to be a little scary, but inspired by snowboarding, I was now up for the challenge.

By the end of our trial lesson, I found Olson to be an excellent teacher. He was methodical, patient and very encouraging. He didn’t push me too fast, yet kept me learning at a pace that promised consistent rewards. I was inspired and I think he was as well.  After all, considering the fact that Olson “didn’t usually teach” he seemed to enjoy the opportunity to give constructive criticism and impart year’s worth of wisdom upon an enthusiastic blank canvas.  I promised to be the perfect muse.

Skateboarding, particularly the classic styles that inspire me, is about movement and balance. Being a dancer, I found that I already had some of the principle elements of the sport engrained. Watching skaters like Jay Adams and Stacy Peralta, one can’t help but be seduced by their effortless fluidity.

Becoming proficient at skateboarding takes both passion and commitment. I never knew if I would enjoy the sport, but as it turned out, I felt this drive to be skateboarding every day and missed it when I didn’t get the opportunity to practice.  I don’t know where the passion has come from, but the determination to master the movements that I find so inspiring now feels part of my soul.

The popularity of skateboarding is as big as soccer or baseball in terms of participation. There are thousands of people around the world who skateboard for a living in one way or another and there are more skateboard websites and magazines than ever before.

Sadly, when it comes to skater girl fashion, the current marketplace leaves a lot to be desired.
There are extremely few females who look beautiful, elegant and stylish while on their board. I can find only one example, possibly the most stylish female in the world, Chloë Sevigny. Let’s be fair, Chloë looks beyond cool no matter what she wears.

Now, a month into my training, I’m spending more time working on my core muscles to ease the strain on my lower legs. So far, I’ve had no bad falls, which I credit partly to my cautious nature and mostly to Olson, who is always on standby in case I start to wobble.

I’m interested to see how the skateboarding will have helped my snowboarding skills. If nothing else, my confidence and fearlessness is steadily increasing.

Since I live in California, come summer time, I’m sure that I will be embarking on the inevitable surf lessons and who knows, by the end of the year I could be the new face of Roxy. (Not to be confused with Moxie).

“I guess it [having style] helped more than anything else. I’m glad I grew up during the last vestige of cool, in the 1990s, when everything wasn’t blogged and on the Interwebs, when things were more on the downlow and underground.”

She’s kind of got a point about the whole underground thing, but the 90s were far from the last vestige of cool – that was the 80s. The 90s were more like the last whimper and final death of cool before the mid-90s took over and America sunk into a capitalist coma.

“I guess I am stylish, but I would rather have people come up and say ‘I really liked your performance in this or that’ than ‘I really like the way you dress.’ That irks me. Anyway, the term It girl gets used too loosely…”

So she’s irked by people respecting her fashion sense over her acting ability; meanwhile, that never hurt Audrey Hepburn or Grace Kelly, both beloved Oscar-winning actresses whose style is arguably more influential than their film catalog.

Then Sevigny turned her ire to Peaches Geldof:

“Today the term is used to describe, say, Peaches Geldof—a girl who doesn’t do anything but is just sort of around.The original It girl was the 1920s movie star Clara Bow; then, in the 1960s, with Edie Sedgwick and Warhol, It girls turned into socialites, ladies of leisure—people who had ‘it’ just for being ‘fabulous.’ But Edie was just a rich drug addict, and when I got called the It girl everyone thought I was that too. I looked like a junkie because it was the 1990s and grunge was the fashion. But I felt I was doing stuff, not just being a socialite.”

Oooh, snap, Geldof! Chloé Sevigny said as far as rich, fabulous drug addicts go, you’re in the same league as Paris Hilton. Buuuuuuurrrrnnn.

When asked if drugs played a part in her personal liberation, Sevigny answered thus:

“It wasn’t like I was a big druggie; it was just kind of a side thing, something that went hand in hand with me falling in with that crowd, the rejects. I don’t think I ever bought anything; it was just sort of there.”

That’s my excuse whenever I end up doing drugs. Yeah, occifer, that coke was just sort of there on my nostrils and I just inhaled. Somehow, that excuse rarely works.

I think this coat is just a little top heavy for Sevigny’s slim frame, but I don’t hate it. The shoes and bag are perfect, and she looks comfortable wearing it. I would like to see how this piece moves with her so I can make a more educated decision about how I feel about it.

Nonetheless the show was pretty bad ass, (duh), although I was puzzled as to why the lead singer of The Virgins was dressed like a mime. Kind of hard to take him seriously singing about chicks when he’s dressed like the French version of a clown.

Of course the requisite celebs/chronic partiers showed up, Kate Bosworth, Waris, Chloe Sevigny, Kelly Osbourne, Juliette Lewis, Jessica Stam, Charlotte Ronson, and my bff famed rock photog Mick Rock (photo of me and Mick).

What’s interesting is that this season Ray Ban is using not models but musicians for its latest campaign. And not just any musicians, but specifically indie rockers such as like The Plastiscines, Free Energy, and We Are Scientists. If the previews they had displayed are any indication of what’s to come, Ray Ban has totally just upped it’s cool factor.

Heather and Jessica from GoFugYourself replied sincerely to our questions. They frankly chatted about diva celebrities, the bashing that they love and the occasional death threats! Surprisingly, their dream shoot would feature plus size actress Gabby Sidibe. Keep reading…

Who are your 3 worst dressed celebrities?

JESSICA: It really varies. Sometimes even people who look terrible most of the time can pull it together, and vice versa. I’d say poor Britney Spears is reliably disastrous.

HEATHER: For me, right now, Taylor Momsen and Leighton Meester are knocking it out of the park when it comes to making my head spin.

Who is the best dressed celebrity?

JESSICA: I am loathe to pick a best-dressed — EVERYONE looks crazy on occasion. I would say that there are some celebs who are consistently interesting though, good or bad. I always look forward to seeing Diane Kruger and Zoe Saldana.

HEATHER: Among more casual celebs, I like seeing what Rachel Bilson pulls out — sometimes it’s gold lame shorts and matching blazers, but often, it’s really cute-with-an-edge cocktail dresses.

Which is the hottest diva mess? Kate Moss, Courtney Love, Naomi Campbell

JESSICA: Courtney, hands down. Although even if I thought it was Naomi, I’d never say so. Never enrage a rageaholic. But Courtney takes it easily.

HEATHER: Yeah, Naomi is a diva mess in a whole different way than Kate and Courtney. I think Courtney wins it on a technicality, since it’s hard to be as much of a disaster as she is, but I’ll say this about Kate Moss: She definitely acts like she thinks anything she puts on her body is instant genius, and I think she’s wrong about that 99 percent of the time. So as far as people who think they’re fashion icons go, or people the fashionistas want me to believe are icons, Kate’s diva mess is industry-leading.

Fuck Marry or Kill and why: Taylor Momsen, Kesha, Chloé Sevigny

JESSICA: That’s a tough one! I’d marry Chloe…and flip a coin for the other two.

HEATHER: I would marry Taylor Momsen, because her age makes one option illegal and the other option (while also illegal) kind of more tragic, because she can’t die before she has a chance to pull it together. So I’ll kill Kesha, I guess, because the world needs Chloe Sevigny’s crazy clothes and awesome, awesome acting. Sorry Kesha. It’s nothing personal. Maybe I can kill her… WITH KINDNESS. Except no.

Why do you love bashing?

JESSICA: Well, I don’t really think of it as bashing as much as I like to think of it as being hopefully humorous constructive criticism! Maybe that’s just spin! But I think it’s important for there to be places where people pierce the PR bubble that surrounds a lot of celebrities: I can think someone like Leighton Meester is fantastic on Gossip Girl, and still dislike her pants. And I think everyone likes to critique celebrity outfits — for the good or the bad. Who hasn’t sat on the sofa, watching the Oscars and thought to herself, “Whoa, that person has all the resources in the world and they STILL look terrible? How is that possible?”

HEATHER: I don’t think of it as bashing, either. I think of it as humor writing, and for me, that’s the key because I just love to write, period. And if I get to write about something that’s fun to talk about, even better. For me we’re not really a fashion blog so much as we are the online experience of goofing off with your girlfriends on a Saturday, watching cheesy movies and flipping through whatever magazines are on the coffee table. We used to get occasionally about how cruel we are (thought not in years, thank God), and I have to say, I really don’t believe that if you read our site you will come away thinking we are being cruel. There’s a real undercurrent of affection for these wackadoo celebrities and their terrible clothing choices, and that’s genuine. We love what we do, and we love them for giving us the fuel to do it.

Have you ever received hate mail or death threats?

JESSICA: Death threats over a celebrity fashion blog would be so extreme! YEARS ago someone said she’d smash our skulls if we ever said another mean thing about…it might have been Mary J Blige? I can’t remember. You’d think she would have known that Mary J had no room for any hateration in our dancerie. We get hate mail every now and then, but we’ve been doing this since 2004. By this point, most of the people who think we’re assholes have already written in.

HEATHER: It was Lil’ Kim! She was in prison at the time, too. As for hate mail, we have a feature where Intern George answers our mail, and those are all real letters. People don’t believe that even though it says so at the top of every post, but it’s true — none of those are made up. But it’s definitely tapered off.

Would you want your own reality tv show?

JESSICA:  I used to work in reality TV and I can think of nothing more horrifying than being the focus of one. Besides, a reality TV show about us would be PARALYZINGLY DULL. It would just be typing.

HEATHER: Yeah, I cannot imagine that being a good idea for me OR for the viewing public. Yikes. I have a hard enough time looking at photos of myself.

Which publication would you want to contribute to?

JESSICA: We’ve been so lucky to contribute to a lot of great publications in our career. I think if I had to pick one, I’d say the New Yorker. My parents would be so thrilled! (Plus, it would be so classy to mention at cocktail parties.)

HEATHER: The New Yorker is a good one. But a huge part of me would love, love, love to write for Sports Illustrated.

If you were to style an editorial shoot, paint us a pic of who you’d use, the clothes you’d pick, and anything else relevant:

JESSICA: You know, that’s not really my area of expertise. We don’t even feature editorial shoots on GFY. They’re so fantastical that they don’t really play into what we talk about — which is basically what celebrities are trying to tell us about themselves based on what they wear out and about. I’m perfectly happy looking at editorial shoots in my magazines and not worrying about all the creative work that goes into creating them. I would not even know where to start!

HEATHER: Nor would I — that’s pretty far out of my purview. Actually, never mind: I’d kind of love to give Gabby Sidibe in some of the best of Alexander McQueen. She is so fabulous, and I feel like during the run-up to awards season she didn’t get access to as many imaginative outfits as she deserved. She’d have SO MUCH FUN romping around in his confections. Making that happen would rule.

Rihanna- Ri’s been really stepping it up lately. She’s got a wide range of looks, and is starting to find a world of her own when it comes to her style.

Lady Gaga- Everyone knows she’s crazy. Lady Gaga is definitely changing the views of fashion right now

Taylor Momsen- Are you surprised? You know we love her.

Emma Watson- The young HP actress is growing up! And looking hot at every event, if we do say so ourselves.

The Olsen Twins- They’ve been in the fashion eye for awhile now, and now that they’ve got some of their own lines, they always look awesome.

Zoe Kravitz- Lenny’s daughter! This teen has been making a lot of appearances lately, and looks good!

Chanel Iman- Our favorite model to follow on Twitter. Chanel is so adorable, and has really awesome style

Tallulah Morton- She’s all over the Cobra Snake (in a Cory Kennedy way), and always looking fly.

Cole Mohr- This is for you Kirby.  Cole brought boyish and grunge to the fashion forefront, for models anyway. Plus he’s incredibly handsome, which definitely isn’t a bad thing.

Ethan James- Ethan is being seen more and more on the fashion scene (Milan fashion week, H & M, tons of editorial spreads), and has a similar look to Cole. I actually went to high school with this Ford model, and he’s been the most stylish guy I know since he was 15.

Jethro Cave- Pioneered the half-shaved head. LOVE those hanger tattoos.

Fashion Personalities and Party People-

Alexa Chung- Whether she’s dressed to kill or wearing denim cutoffs, Alexa Chung is always on top of her game.

Chloe Sevigny- Great designer, great style icon. I’m in love with her buckle booties, which she is seen wearing a lot, paired with skinny pants or cute dresses. Definitely a hipster style icon.  We know she isn’t exactly under 25, but she’s been around for so long as a stylish designer to know, and like our moms, is one of those women that turn 25 every year for the rest of their lives.

Peaches Geldof- This social always looks gorgeous (as do all the Geldofs), for events or on the street with her fake fiance.

Aaron Kolfage- Fashion Indie’s favorite party host and dear friend, Aaron always looks fierce on Friday nights at Ruff Club. He dresses with such creativity, I haven’t seen anything like it anywhere else. This weekend, Aaron was wearing a giant tulle bowtie with a brooch in the middle, and I was mad jealous. Aaron gives us Midwesterners hope for being incredibly stylish, he’s from Michigan!

Fashion Bloggers-

Pelayo of Kate Loves Me – This guy, and his girlfriend, both have killer style. He wears some of the craziest things I’ve ever seen (including Louis Vuitton mesh tights!), and has perfectly coiffed hair at all times.

Lovisa The Intern- Lovisa Drever is all over Lookbook.nu, but I know her from Waffles + Falafels (who even briefly carried a shirt with her photo on it). She’s got a killer sense of style and can pull anything off, plus adds to the crazy personalities of W + F, who are some of my favorite people.

Six Six Sick Girls- These hosts and bloggers DIY matching outfits for their events, which include everything from red wigs to elbow gloves. They not only have a crazy (and matching) sense of DIY style, they also post some (literally) sick stuff on their blog.

Kirby Marzec- Fashion Indie’s own managing editor, Kirby not only knows everything about every designer, and what’s going to be hot next season, but she also isn’t afraid to pull it off. Whether it’s drop (to the knee) crotch pants, DIY ripped tees, or metal vests, you can be assured that Kirby will wear it, and she’ll wear it damn well.

Jazzi McG- We had a half hour long talk the other day about how much we love Jazzi’s blog, and her style.  A queen of DIYing and always dressed perfectly for the occasion, she’s definitely one to watch.

Tavi of Style Rookie-  Tavi is no rookie, maybe in the way that ‘Rookie of the Year’ becomes a professional baseball player, Tavi dresses better than some veterans of fashion.

Camille of Childhood Flames- Another not-even-legal fashion blogger showing that you don’t have to have a career to be fashionable, this sixteen year old is a pro at mixing designer goods with things we can afford, and is also taking advantage of the DIY world.

Lucas Logan- This 18-year-old from LA is all over the internet, model/blogger (Stylish Kids In Riot)/designer, Lucas is California’s newest ‘It’ Kid, braces and all.

Musicians-

Uffie- I mean look at her, in.sane.

The Veronicas- I’ve followed The Veronicas since I was in high school, and their style has definitely evolved into rocker chic. They always look good separately, and even better together, on stage or off, and aren’t afraid to take risks.

Instead of launching the conventional look-book for her Fall 2009 collection, the fashion savvy Chloë Sevigny is set to release Reds, a hardcover art-book featuring the photography of David Armstrong. With inspiration from her New England childhood to elements of punky skinhead culture, Sevigny felt the perfect models for Reds would be just that, a bunch of gingers! Besides serving as her collection look-book, Reds will feature the artwork of various artists, like Slater Bradley, Karen Kilimnik and Jack Pierson. Reds is slated to hit shelves sometime this August.

Chloe Sevigny posed for an under-the-radar, but great editorial in the June 2009 issue of ELLE (Megan Fox cover).

While we’re all tired of reading that the secret to great style is mixing high and low, I always like seeing it in action, especially when Kate Lanphear is doing the styling.

Lanphear draws on a tamed-down ’80s supermodel aesthetic – in the Carrie-Bradshaw-wears-a-big-blazer-as-a-dress kind of way, and luckily not in a magenta spandex kind of way.  

Keeping the looks true to Chloe’s personal image, the spread mixes basics from American Apparel, The Gap, and Express, with pieces from Alexander Wang and 3.1 Phillip Lim.  Lanphear, typically heavy into accessorizing, decorates Chloe with luxury belts, detailed leather boots and bags, and statement jewelry.

Nonetheless, prolific photographer Mark Borthwick’s new book, Not In Fashion is an artful, sensory stimulating collection of unconventional photos which, incidentally, features a then 21-year old version of the indie ingénue, amongst other quirky and well-known celebs. It was during the ‘90’s, while helping then-fledgling magazines like Purple, Self Service and AnOther, that Bothwick first began integrating elements of architecture and design, developing a very personal and intuitive style that can still be seen today. This book showcases over 200 images from his best fashion editorials, celebrity portraits, and advertising work, displaying his ability to turn a stationary photo into a fluid performance. Borthwick’s work is not only about the movement of the model, but the beauty of accidental clutter, which is as important to his images as the garments. Not In Fashion also features excerpts from his personal journals, which mainly consist of Polaroid’s, sketches and notes on shoots, revealing the inner workings of a photographer’s mind.

Who better to rock some Chloë than Chloe? The leggy Ms. Sevigny showed up to celebrate the opening of a new Chloe boutique in Los Angeles Thursday night.

To co-host the event, Chloe wore a navy blue pant suit with scalloped shotrs and a white blazer with scalloped lapel, both from the Spring 2009 collection.

Chloe poses in the new issue of C Magazine (May 2009).  I think she looks absolutely beautiful, I just don’t understand the ‘all black’ spread, I thought people wear color in Cali?!?

Print Liberation recently recieved a purchase from yours truly, as I fell in love with their amazing tee shirts. The shirts are very political and deal with the God awful economy that we are all stuck in right now. The shirts are whitty and cheap, and I can’t wait to get mine! Chloe Sevigny recently teamed up with Opening Ceremony to produce a few pieces that I actually rather enjoy. The collection brings a bright and more indie feel the Opening Ceremony. The styles look well done, however I don’t know how I feel about those wide legged pants for men.

Gallery: Chloe Sevigny Teams Up With Opening Ceremony

In 2007, Chloe Sevigny made her claim into the fashion world by designing a very successful like for Opening Ceremony. For A/W 09, Chloe decided to stretch her reach into menswear.

Were you surprised by the success of the first collection?
I was and the shoes did really really well. Originally we were just gonna do menswear or unisex this season but I thought we should do some girl’s shoes because I still see some of the editors wearing them. So the shoes, people really respond to. But I was really surprised. Especially for me, Opening Ceremony’s such a perfect and organic fit.

With Humberto (Leon, Opening Ceremony co-founder), we’ve always seen each other around and we go to the same parties, like the same kind of music, dance at the same clubs, have a lot of the same friends. So we just had a lot of the same references when we were designing the collection. It was a very natural fit for me.

Your first collection was inspired by your Junior High years, is your menswear from the same period?
I guess so. I was hoping that a lot of pieces were more timeless. A shirt jacket in navy, it could be from any period. We wanted to make lots of oversize jackets for girls. My favourite piece is probably the full pants. But they’re all pretty classic pieces.

You’ve appeared on the cover of L’uomo Vogue in menswear. What’s your take on androgyny?
When I was 19, 20, I had very short hair and I was very into the androgynous look. But I was much thinner then and I’ve filled out and become more of a woman now. I don’t think I could pull it off so much now. But I think the androgynous look is so beautiful. It’s one of my favorite looks on women.

You had The Slits play the party for the first collection. What music were you listening to this time around when you designed the collection?
This time around, I wouldn’t say music so much influenced it. This was more outdoorsy, preppy, alternative, bit grungy.
