THE TEN: Best Celebrity Clothing Lines

Edited by

Celebrity clothing lines are a dime a dozen nowadays, having become so unreasonably commonplace that it might be safe to say you’re not a real star unless you manage to churn out one (though you couldn’t even dress yourself without the help of a professional). I’ll be the first to say leave it the ones who know what they’re doing, but I will also say that there have been a few, very few that not only have managed to stay relevant as far as fashion is concerned, but exemplifies the true spirit of design: originality, creativity and quality–a rarity amongst the famous. Here are the exceptions:

THE TEN: Best Celebrity Clothing Lines

1. Elizabeth and James by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen- because they don’t try so hard.

THE TEN: Best Celebrity Clothing Lines

2. L.A.M.B by Gwen Stefani- the shoes are beyond dope.

THE TEN: Best Celebrity Clothing Lines

3. J.Lo, Sweetface by Jennifer Lopez- even though Sweetface went belly up, she’s the one that started it all, and don’t act like you’ve never owned (or wanted to own) at least one pair of her jeans or one of those ghetto fabulous velour sweatsuits. Guilty.

THE TEN: Best Celebrity Clothing Lines

4. Kate Moss for Topshop- a fashionista’s wet dream

THE TEN: Best Celebrity Clothing Lines

5. House of Harlow by Nicole Richie- hate the girl, love the jewelry.

THE TEN: Best Celebrity Clothing Lines

6. Benjamin Bixby by Andre 3000- gettin his grown man on.

THE TEN: Best Celebrity Clothing Lines

7. Twenty8Twelve by Sienna Miller- Does she still qualify as a celebrity? Nonetheless spring/summer 09 is looking pretty good…

THE TEN: Best Celebrity Clothing Lines

8. Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony- hipster chic at its finest.

THE TEN: Best Celebrity Clothing Lines

9. The Victoria Beckham Collection- this shameless clotheshorse knows her shit.

THE TEN: Best Celebrity Clothing Lines

10. William Rast by Justin Timberlake- I think we were all surprised that this didn’t turn out as bad as we had assumed.

SPREAD UM: Chloe Sevigny for ELLE, June 2009

SPREAD UM: Chloe Sevigny for ELLE, June 2009

Chloe Sevigny posed for an under-the-radar, but great editorial in the June 2009 issue of ELLE (Megan Fox cover).

While we’re all tired of reading that the secret to great style is mixing high and low, I always like seeing it in action, especially when Kate Lanphear is doing the styling.

Lanphear draws on a tamed-down ’80s supermodel aesthetic – in the Carrie-Bradshaw-wears-a-big-blazer-as-a-dress kind of way, and luckily not in a magenta spandex kind of way.

Keeping the looks true to Chloe’s personal image, the spread mixes basics from American Apparel, The Gap, and Express, with pieces from Alexander Wang and 3.1 Phillip Lim.  Lanphear, typically heavy into accessorizing, decorates Chloe with luxury belts, detailed leather boots and bags, and statement jewelry.

Nonetheless, prolific photographer Mark Borthwick’s new book, Not In Fashion is an artful, sensory stimulating collection of unconventional photos which, incidentally, features a then 21-year old version of the indie ingénue, amongst other quirky and well-known celebs. It was during the ‘90’s, while helping then-fledgling magazines like Purple, Self Service and AnOther, that Bothwick first began integrating elements of architecture and design, developing a very personal and intuitive style that can still be seen today. This book showcases over 200 images from his best fashion editorials, celebrity portraits, and advertising work, displaying his ability to turn a stationary photo into a fluid performance. Borthwick’s work is not only about the movement of the model, but the beauty of accidental clutter, which is as important to his images as the garments. Not In Fashion also features excerpts from his personal journals, which mainly consist of Polaroid’s, sketches and notes on shoots, revealing the inner workings of a photographer’s mind.

DESIGNER TO KNOW: Print Liberation

Print Liberation recently recieved a purchase from yours truly, as I fell in love with their amazing tee shirts. The shirts are very political and deal with the God awful economy that we are all stuck in right now. The shirts are whitty and cheap, and I can’t wait to get mine! Get one for yourself on their website!

How Much Would You Pay for Chloe Sevignys Refrigerator?

Housing Works is seriously upping their street cred.

They just announced a bunch of celebrity auctions that include nifty items like hipster queen Chloe Sevigny’s fridge. Just image all the bottles of Belvedere and PBR that lived within it’s hollowed walls. Epic.

You can find more goodies and info on when Housing Works will be selling off these goodies, HERE>>
