This is For Charity: The Wizard of Oz 70th Anniversary
Ok, glamettes listen up because this is for charity. We all know that only thing more glamorous than an amazing pair of heels is if the proceeds of those heels go to people in need. Yes, I have an inner Audrey Hepburn. This particular event is very exciting though, it involves the 70th anniversary of The Wizard Of Oz, the world’s best shoe designers and The Elizabeth Glazer Pediatrics AIDS Foundation.
I usually make it a rule to write all of my own posts word for word. However, I will make an exception this one time, as I want to make sure I convey all of the information correctly.
So, from the official website: http://www.rubyslipperauction.com/ here is the information, feel free to peruse the website and bid on your own pair of ruby slippers. xoxo
From Beverly Hills to Berlin; from big screens to home screens, Warner Bros. Entertainment has for the past year been celebrating the 70th anniversary of an iconic American classic The Wizard of Oz with spectacular festivities spanning the globe. As part of this celebration, Warner Bros. Consumer Products in partnership with CRYSTALLIZED™ – Swarovski Elements invited the world’s top shoe designers to reinterpret Dorothy’s iconic Ruby Slippers for modern times.
“If Dorothy were living in the 21st century, what would she wear?” was the question answered by The Wizard of Oz Ruby Slipper Collection, a creative re-interpretation of one of film’s most iconic and revered symbols which has captured the hearts and imaginations of people the world over. Designers, including A. Testoni, Abaete, Alberta Ferretti, Betsey Johnson, Botkier, Christian Louboutin, Diane von Furstenberg, Giuseppe Zanotti, Jimmy Choo, L.A.M.B. by Gwen Stefani, Lisa Pliner, Manolo Blahnik, Moschino, Oscar de la Renta, Roger Vivier, Sergio Rossi, Stuart Weitzman, Tibi, and Tuleh, were granted creative license and access to unlimited CRYSTALLIZED™ – Swarovski Elements to re-imagine Dorothy’s design with their own modern vision of the sparkling Ruby Slipper.
Since its debut one year ago in New York City to kick off Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, the Collection has toured more than 20 prestigious destinations around the world, including Los Angeles, Miami, Paris, Tokyo, Dubai and Melbourne. The Ruby Slipper Collection and original design sketches will now be auctioned online by Charity Folks beginning 10:00 AM EST on September 10 to benefit the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. The public has one final chance to view The Ruby Slipper Collection in entirety at the Swarovski CRYSTALLIZED™ flagship store at 499 Broadway in New York City from September 10th — 23rd; the exhibit will be run simultaneously to the online auction.
Also featured in the auction are select pieces from The Inspirations of Oz Fine Art Collection which premiered during the highly anticipated and revered Art Basel Miami Beach 2008. An acclaimed array of artists were among the chosen few selected to re-interpret The Wizard of Oz through their own unique visions and artistic mediums. Included in the auction are one-of-a-kind interpretive works of art including painting, drawing and sculpture from esteemed artisans Angelo Aversa, Romero Britto, Nelson De La Nuez, Todd White and Yakovetic.
The auction will culminate at 10:00 PM on Thursday, September 24, with the Warner Bros. Entertainment Emerald Gala, a glorious event at Manhattan’s historic Tavern on the Green hosted by its owner and CEO Jennifer Oz LeRoy, granddaughter of The Wizard of Oz producer Mervyn LeRoy; introducing Warner Home Video’s new benchmark The Wizard of Oz 70th Anniversary Ultimate Collector’s Edition Blu-Ray release on September 29th.

Please, at least go to the website and have a look. It’s for a really good cause!!!

FASHION INDIE INVESTIGATES: The Facts Of Buying Fakes
Louboutin booties for 207$? Dream on. As I’ve now learned from The NY Daily News, if you think crazy markdowns are too good to be true, they probably are. Yes, we all know that sites like Bluefly.com, Guiltgroup, and Hautelook give great deals on designer clothing and shoes (Bluefly sells Louboutin for $200-$1100), but these deals are legit, and the shoes are manufactured in Louboutin factories, not sweatshops in China or Thailand.

Each year, $600 Billion counterfeit products are sold, causing a $512 Billion loss in global sales. And each year, Harper’s Bazaar runs an editorial investigation on fake trade, and the significance of purchasing authentic luxury products. They’ve put together a site called Fakes Are Never In Fashion, to help readers learn the dangers of buying fake, and how to be sure you’re buying the real deal. There’s also a blog called Counterfeit Chic, that tips off online shoppers to fakes, and Lululemon even posted on their site a 9 step how-to for spotting their fakes on the web and on the street.

You may think that buying fakes isn’t a big deal, just a more affordable way to get designer(ish) goods, but aside from being illegal, and costing billions of dollars to the retail industry, most of these goods are produced overseas in sweatshops, under disturbing conditions. NY Daily News reported:
“In a recent sweatshop raid in Thailand, a group of children, all under 10 years old, was found assembling leather purses. Horrifyingly, their limbs had been deliberately broken to keep them from escaping. The owners had tied their lower legs to their thighs so the bones wouldn’t mend.”
After reading this, I’ll never for a second consider following one of the vendors on Canal street down a dark alley or into a shady apartment, and even though I can’t afford luxury designers, I’ll save my money for Portero or Bag Borrow or Steal or buy vintage styles or from a good boutique that’s more in my price range.
Many people might see buying fakes as a harmless crime, but when you think about who is making these fakes, think twice before you buy. You may think you’re ’sticking it to the man’ by buying ripped off designs, but you’re basically telling the evil man that it’s okay to use and abuse children to make your fake Louis Vuitton handbags and Jimmy Choo shoes. Get smart, and if you can’t afford luxury items, look somewhere else!

LAST NIGHT’S PARTY: Lipgloss, High Heels and Poise

Most fashion events leave you with a handful of new acquaintances, a stack of useless business cards and a seemingly incurable hangover. Leave it up to the ladies at Purple Lab to turn the tables and supply me with a newfound obsession in Purple Lab beauty products, the grace needed to light up a room, the ability to walk like a supermodel and some great new friends! Yesterday evening, I got in touch with my feminine side by trading in my harem pants and boyfriend blazer for some Coach stilettos and a slinky Mint dress and joining in on all the beauty talk.
Purple Lab is one of the newest and most innovative beauty lines on the market, staying on top of trends while providing women with dual-action products and a message of female empowerment. As the brainchild of fashion and beauty Renaissance woman, Karen Robinovitz, who knows the industry, inside and out, Purple Lab hit shelves in May 2009 with six of the best lip-glosses I’ve had the pleasure of trying. With adorable names like “Red Sole,” inspired by the soles of Christian Louboutin heels, and “Worship Kate,” Kate Moss that is, the Purple Lab glosses are equipped with stunning color, lip plumper and an array of bonuses like soothing lemon peel or Hoodia, the appetite suppressant. Purple Lab is projected to launch a line of skin-care products as well as other types of makeup in the near future.
Following their motto of female confidence and pride, the ladies at Purple Lab brought in supermodel runway coach, Drew Linehan, to teach us how to be the envy of all the social gatherings and walk like a supermodel. After throwing my shoulders back, sticking my chest out and owning my personality, Drew flattered me and complimented me on my Erin Wasson-esque, quirky walk! While all the ladies looked fierce stomping down our makeshift runway at The Gates, I must say, Karen, at a mere 5′2″, had the presence of Gisele!
Sound fun? Well you don’t have to be name in the fashion/beauty scene to join in on it! Purple Lab is all about their customers, so if you show an interest in the company, you can expect an invite to Purple Lab’s next event, or better, a Tweet-Up session at Karen’s apartment! I might not be the biggest makeup/ beauty guru out there, but Purple Lab is one brand you need in your purse at all times!
Stay tuned for videos from the event as well as Purple Lab giveaways!
Purple Lab products can be found at a variety of stores like Scoop, Fred Segal, Bliss, C.O. Bigelow and online at bglowing.com.

FYI DIY: Christian Louboutin x Rodarte Heels

I’ve had my eye on the studded and spiked Christian Louboutin x Rodarte heels since they hit the streets in February of 2008. Over a year later, I’m still severely obsessed with them, and thanks to the crafty DIY project by Patricia at Fashion Mongers, we all can look forward to replicating our very own Loubs!
Constructed from a pair of old Mary-Janes, a variety of pronged studs, super-glue, a hammer and a lot of patience, my new favorite Fashion Monger put a spin on the Christian Louboutin x Rodarte heels and created them for a mere dollars!

SHOP: $300 Louboutins? Today? The Outnet? Go, Go, Go!
Just because we’re in a recession doesn’t mean designer shoes are totally out of the question. Today, on Net-a-Porter’s The Outnet, a variety of Christian Louboutin shoes are down to just around $300! Okay, I know, that’s still a good chunk of money, but when Loubs run $800+, this is certainly a bargain! Get on it folks, because these babies are going fast! I totally cried tears of blood when I saw that the Hercule Leather Pumps were sold out.

Barneys is Just Selling Garbage These Days

These are a pair of Christian Louboutin shoes which were imprinted with a unique selection of Barneys “materials”, aka shit they found in a wastebasket. It’s great that Barneys is embracing the fact that dumpster dipping is now an okay fashionable alternative for recessionistas, but adding a $1000 price tag to your trash?!? I ain’t buying.

BEHIND THE BEAUTY: June 08 Vogue Featuring Sarah Jessica Parker

I was feeling a little SEX AND THE CITY: with Fashion Week wrapped up in NYC. So today I re-picked up one of my “keeper” magazine, the June 2008 issue of Vogue with Sarah Jessica Parker on the cover and a spread featuring her and Chris Noth.
GALLERY: SJP and Chris Noth for Vogue
SJP’s makeup was flawless, the locations were beautiful, as were her designer dresses; some of my favorites; the Nina Ricci emerald green silk-satin dress, the Versace chiffon dress and the Chanel boucle’ suit, the Lanvin hat and Philip Crangi for Vera Wang cuff bracelet were all so lavish and girlie regal…and how can I forget about those Christian Louboutin pumps!
In the movie, she wore two amazing wedding dresses that was such a WOW factor for me. The elegant Vera Wang wedding dress and the Dior Haute Couture jacket and skirt were just breath taking.
So for all of you SJP/Carrie fans, I have a treat for you. Below you will find a video of behind the scene footage from the VOGUE Magazine shoot as well as a makeup list that Makeup Artist Judy Chin used on SJP for the movie.

MOMENTS OF STYLE: It’s Britney Bitch

The secret behind Britney Spear’s fabulous shoes she’s wearing in photos from her highly anticipated “If U Seek Amy” video has been uncovered.
In the shots, Spears rocks a dramatic pair of red pumps adorned with ruched petals and a wedge toe.
Celebuzz has learned that shoemaster Christian Louboutin created the pair, and that Spears is the first consumer to get her hot little hands on them.
Commissioned by 3.1 designer Philip Lim last year for his Spring 2009 runway presentation, the shoes are made of red nappa (full grain, super-soft leather).
