1. Madonna - Blond Ambition Tour (1990) Always lauded, and at times harshly criticized, for her chameleon-like reinventions, she is nevertheless the artist who most brilliantly illustrates -- and has done the most to encourage -- the symbiotic relationship between music and fashion. Madge reached her sartorial high point during her wildly successful Blond Ambition Tour, featuring costumes by Jean Paul Gaultier who designed the now legendary cone bra.

2. Michael Jackson - "Beat It" music video (1983) Perhaps the most iconic single article of clothing in pop music history, MJ's red leather jacket was a cultural watershed moment because it became almost synonymous with Thriller, i.e. the biggest album of all time. The ankle-baring trousers -- a nod to Fred Astaire -- white socks and black shoes were also trademarks of the 80s and still loom large over the singer's incredible legacy.

3. The Beatles - The  Ed Sullivan Show (1964) When the Beatles invaded America, they brought along with them enduring and generation-defining trends such as the Beatle boot, collarless suits and the mop top -- not to mention hysteria the likes of which Justin Bieber could only dream.

4. David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust Tour (1973-74) Without Ziggy, Elton John would never have discovered his love of feathered headdresses, LaBelle wouldn't have strutted around New Orleans in their silver lamé and simply put, there would be no Lady Gaga. A high-concept album with a high-concept look, David Bowie introduced androgyny to the pop culture masses, and decades later his seminal faux rocker is still a fashion favorite.

5. Diana Ross and the Supremes - "Come See About Me" on The Ed Sullivan Show (1964) Three black girls from Detroit became the epitome of style, grace, beauty and glamor in the midst of social upheaval and racial injustice. Oprah said it best (as she does with everything): it was life-changing.

6. Ramones - Ramones (1976) While the Beatles inspired bands to dress up, the Ramones' relaxed, almost comalike coolness influenced other bands to keep it simple -- years later their pared down style still feels like quintessential New York. Especially with all the hipsters dragging their Converses, skinny jeans and leather jackets around.

7. George Michael - "Freedom! '90" video (1990) George Michael's identity crisis led to the zenith of the supermodel explosion. Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington and Tatjana Patitz took the place of the singer -- reluctant to appear in his own video -- and  lip-synched their way to iconic status in the clip directed by future friend of Facebook, David Fincher.

8. Nirvana -  "Smells Like Teen Spirit" music video (1991) Marc Jacobs' landmark Grunge collection for Perry Ellis in 1992 may have led to his dismissal, but it also cemented the enormous cultural impact Kurt Cobain and Nirvana had inadvertently etched out for themselves thanks to the success of "Smells Like Teen Spirit." Till this day the sight of plaid inspires those famous first notes and the image of zombie cheerleaders dancing through my head.

9. Run-D.M.C. - "My Adidas" (1986) Hip hop has long been obsessed with fashion and material goods, but we wouldn't have Kanye "The Louis Vuitton Don" West rapping about haute couture if we didn't have Run D.M.C. extolling the virtues of their shell tops.

10. Lady Gaga - "Bad Romance" music video (2010) Gaga went from popstar to phenomenon on the heels of her Alexander McQueen armadillo shoes. The video stands as an homage not only to McQueen and his legacy, but to the woman most responsible for Gaga's amazing aptitude for reinvention: Madonna. And she's been paying homage ever since.

- V Magazine dived into the dumpster America is currently wading through where they found Ke$ha and threw her on the cover of its “Americana Issue.” [WOWWOW.ME]

- Ashton Kutcher reminds us that at some point he was considered an actor with this spoof of Karl Lagerfeld for Pop Chips. Meanwhile, it would’ve been easier just to get the Kaiser himself, since he clearly has no qualms or standards when it comes to shilling. [Fashionista]

- Aquascutum has found a savior in Hong Kong-based YGM Trading Ltd. which will acquire all of the Brit label’s business and assets by May 9. [Vogue UK]

- Balmain decided to follow in Calvin Klein‘s dated footstep by getting in on the social media game with both a Facebook and a Twitter. [WWD]

- David and Victoria Beckham were forced to kiss in front of a stadium of screaming fans after they were spotted on the Kiss Cam at a Lakers game. Surprisingly, no one was grossed out by it. [The Cut]

- Christy Turlington (Burns) is launching a crusade against Mother’s Day. The super’s No Mother’s Day campaign is designed to raise awareness about the hundreds of thousands of women around the world who die each year from complications related to pregnancy or childbirth. [No Mothers Day]

- Macy’s is taking its bar III brand on the road with a series of  flea markets across the country starting this weekend in New York with the Hester St Fair on Saturday and the Green Flea on Sunday. [FI]

Holden Newell in Carly Rae Jepsen's piece of pop perfection and early contender for song of the summer, "Call Me Maybe."

Brazilian Evandro Soldati joins a bevy of shirtless, muscular and high-heeled dancers in Lady Gaga's "Alejandro," directed by Steven Klein.

Picking up where Gaga's stilettoed hoofers took off, Madonna ups the male model ante with not one but five hunks. Rob Evans, Simon Nessman, Jon Kortajarena, Sean O'Pry and Brad Alphonso lend their life forces to keep Madge feeling young in "Girl Gone Wild."

The Material Girl's backup dancers in "Girl Gone Wild" are none other than Ukrainian dance-pop outfit Kazazy, who're known for their immaculate collection of heels, moves and splits. Their video for "Love" shows them at their finest and hottest.

Katy Perry really knocked it outta the goddamn park with this one. The song and the model. "Teenage Dream" pretty much solidified her as a pop phenom while giving us loads of model Josh Kloss' rippling six pack for our viewing pleasure.

And then there's Katy Perry's former boytoy Baptiste Giabiconi, who decided to take the reigns and deliver his own music video, the brilliantly awful "Showtime."

French pop tart Anggun's "Echo (You & I)" was France's official selection for Eurovision 2012. So she wasn't about to half-step with the video which not only features model Yonathan Wangman among other delectable dudes, but costumes by Jean Paul Gaultier.

While one could argue that the statement — “Twenty years ago the average fashion model weighed 8% less than the average woman. Today she weighs 23% less.” — doesn’t take into account the fact that women 20 years ago probably weighed less than they do now — two decades of fast food will do that to you — one only has to consider who the average fashion model was 20 years ago. Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, Linda Fucking Evangelista…these women were Amazons and Glamazons; healthy, gorgeous and glowing with the energy of life and $10,000 a day paychecks. Then Kate Moss came shuffling in and changed the game. Despite the veracity of the facts, if anything the spread stimulates a debate. And more importantly, it offers images of a beautiful woman who is not only clearly proud of her voluptuous body, but also pretty damned flexible to boot. [Buzzfeed]

Paris Is Burning (1990) Set amidst the backdrop of 80s New York ball culture, Paris Is Burning is an exploration of beauty, race, sexuality, capitalism and the American Dream, all wrapped up in a dragtastic homage to the transformative powers of fashion. Also, where do you think Madonna learned to Vogue? See Also: To Wong Foo -- Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar (1994) Drag queens, yes; acute social commentary, not so much...but how can you argue with this? Oh, that's right, you can't.

2. The September Issue (2009) Step inside the hallowed halls of the fashion Bible that is U.S. Vogue. We get a rare glimpse of the woman behind the bob and Chanel sunglasses, as Anna Wintour admits with a palpable hint of regret that the distinguished members of her family think what she does is "quite funny." But it's Grace Coddington's bleeding artistic heart that stays with you throughout. See Also: Bill Cunningham New York (2010) Bill Cunningham, legendary streetstyle photographer for the New York Times has a Puritanical simplicity to his life but a couturier's eye for trends and detail that is documented in this tender portrait, featuring the likes of Wintour, Carmen Dell'Orefice, Anna Piaggi and Michael Kors.

3. Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961) Though not necessarily a film about fashion, Breakfast at Tiffany's is the quintessential fashion film. Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly continues to teach and inspire girls and certain boys everywhere on how to be chic, how to be urbane and how to live fabulously in New York -- or at least how to pretend. And there has never been a more iconic Little Black Dress ever put on screen. See Also: Darling (1965) Darling's Diana Scott is the British, unapologetically wanton version of Holly Golightly. A morally-suspect fashion model who sleeps her way to the top, Diana still manages to come off as a naïve and sympathetic character -- despite exhibiting behavior to the contrary -- thanks to Julie Christie's Oscar-winning portrayal.

4. Unzipped (1995) Sure, there are other backstage, behind the curtain, beneath the bustle documentaries of fashion designers, but none are as stylish as Isaac Mizrahi's Unzipped. When Isaac was the new, young It designer on the block; when Naomi, Cindy, Christy and Linda ruled the catwalks; when Eartha Kitt was still alive and purring -- Unzipped documents the height of 90s fashion, right before the balloon went bust. See Also: Valentino: The Last Emperor (2008) Whereas Unzipped follows a designer in the earlier stages of his career, The Last Emperor observes a master -- Valentino Garavani -- as he takes his final bow with his partner of 50 years by his side, Giancarlo Giammetti.

5. Funny Face (1957) Audrey Hepburn makes a return to the list, but this time she is the unlikely model Jo Stockton, a bookworm with an unconventional look that inspires love in photographer Dick Avery, played by Fred Astaire. A fantastic set of photoshoots and gowns by Hubert de Givenchy are the main attractions, but Kay Thompson as salty editrix Maggie Prescott could give Miranda Priestly a run for her money. See Also: The Women (1939) Though Funny Face features a climactic runway show, The Women spared no expense in shooting its nearly 10-minute fashion show in color, despite the entire film being in black and white. Do not mistake this classic with that awful remake Diane English regurgitated a few years ago.

6. Mahogany (1975) Arguably Diana Ross's greatest cinematic achievement -- if only for this -- Mahogany chronicles the rise of supermodel Mahogany from the slums of Chicago to the runways of Paris and finally to international acclaim as a designer in her own right, only to give it all up for the man she loves...a move Ms. Ross would openly spit upon, but which she plays with considerable believability. See Also: Gia (1998) While Mahogany is a fictional supermodel who dabbles on the dark side, Gia Carangi was the real thing whose excesses eventually got the best of her. The film is best remembered, however, for launching Angelina Jolie to stardom, thus ensuring Jennifer Aniston's lifelong ire.

7. Clueless (1995) What can one say about Clueless? The perfect teen movie, it's infinitely quotable -- "You're just a virgin...who can't...DROIVE." -- and is there a character with as enviable a closet as Cher Horowitz? Bonus points for first introducing me and perhaps a majority of the world to Azzedine Alaïa. See Also: The 2nd Season of Gossip Girl (2008-2009) With the possible exception of Mean Girls, there hasn't come along a teen movie as smart or as witty as Clueless. But in terms of style, the second season of Gossip Girl rose to the challenge, making fashion icons of Blair Waldorf and Serena Vanderwoodsen, as well as their real-life counterparts, Leighton Meester and Blake Lively.

8. Blow-Up (1966) Michelangelo Antonioni captures the mod mood of 60s Swinging London as a hedonistic fashion photographer -- played by David Hemmings -- tries to figure out whether or not he accidentally snapped a murder. In the film's most famous scene, 6'1 supermodel Veruschka writhes around the set of a photoshoot as Hemmings makes love to her with his camera. See Also: La Dolce Vita (1960) If Blow-Up swings, La Dolce Vita sways. Federico Fellini's romantic portrait of Rome is as sleek and stylish as protagonist Marcello Rubini's suits.

9. The Devil Wears Prada (2006) It's a matter of public record that Lauren Weisberger's roman à clef was based on Anna Wintour -- who famously wore Prada to the film's opening -- but what the film accomplishes (okay, let's be real, what Meryl Streep accomplishes) is creating not only one of the greatest villains, but also one of the greatest fashion icons, in modern cinema. See Also: Sex and the City: The Movie (2008) A completely unnecessary production and by the loosest definitions an actual "movie," Sex and the City also benefited from Pat Field's brilliant styling. But unlike The Devil Wears Prada, there was no Oscar nomination for attiring Carrie and Co.

10.Zoolander (2001) Everything benefits from a parody -- rather, everything benefits from a good parody, Though Zoolander is far from perfect, it's a fun and funny romp through fashion's ridiculous playground; complete with walk-offs, an evil Galliano-esque designer in Jacobim Mugatu and the introduction of Blue Steel into the cultural lexicon. And lucky for us, there's a sequel in the works thus righting everything with the world. See Also: Brüno (2009) Taking off where Ben Stiller catwalked off, Sacha Baron Cohen's flamboyant character traipsed through America, spreading his questionably fashionable and gratuitously gay, booty-shorted self from sea to shining seaman.

Christie Brinkley (Feb. 2, 1954) Billy Joel's Uptown Girl was the reigning supermodel of the early 80s thanks to her three consecutive Sports Illustrated covers (1979-1981). After signing a record 20-year contract with Cover Girl, Brinkley came to embody the perpetually perky All-American girl of the decade. Recently, though, she went through a very public and very messy divorce and proved in a 2006 editorial in W magazine there was some grit beneath all that goddamn cheer.

Gia Carangi (1960-1986) Tragic beauty Gia Carangi skyrocketed to superstardom after scoring her first Vogue cover in 1978. All that success perhaps came to early as she  became heavily involved in drugs and her modelling career was all but over by 1982 when she shot her last cover for Cosmopolitan. She died four years later from complications of AIDS. Gia's legacy was enhanced a decade later when Angelina Jolie starred in an HBO biopic, garnering a Golden Globe for her performance.

Kathy Ireland (March 20, 1963) Like Christie Brinkley, Kathy Ireland was a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit regular -- her first cover, the 25th anniversary issue in 1989, is still the best selling in the mag's history. She hung up her bikini in the mid-90s and started hocking goods for Kmart and she parlayed her supermodel career into a super successful business that pulls in some $1.5 billion a year

Paulina Porizkova (April 9, 1965) Equally adept on the cover of Sports Illustrated -- landing consecutive covers in 1984 and 85 -- as on a high fashion runway, Porizkova was a Czech phenomenon. In 1988 she scored the biggest modelling contract at the time when Estée Lauder signed her for $6 million. Another America's Next Top Model alum, Porizkova is most fondly remembered by trannies everywhere as the idol of Octavia St. Laurent in Paris Is Burning.

Linda Evangelista (May 10, 1965) If you watch Isaac Mizrahi's seminal fashion documentary Unzipped (1995), you won't be able to help but think Linda Evangelista is a whiny bitch. She complains about everything the entire movie. You wonder why Mizrahi and everyone else puts up with it. Then, moments before she goes on the runway for his Fall 1994 collection, she stares directly into the camera, seduces you in a second then turns it out all the way down the catwalk. The super among supers who once notoriously purred, "We don't wake up for less than $10,000 a day," was worth every penny. She's fashion's reigning chameleon, able to go from high fashion to commercial with the raise of an eyebrow.

Cindy Crawford (Feb. 20, 1966) The mole that launched a thousand magazine covers, Cindy Crawford was perhaps the most iconic of the supemodels to emerge in the 1980s. She was the approachable bombshell, the girl next door who just happened to be walking a Chanel runway in Paris. Cindy is rarely seen on a runway or in an editorial these days, but whenever she crops up it's a pretty big deal, like mama bird coming home to the roost.

Christy Turlington (Jan. 2, 1969) Quietly stunning, Christy Turlington can nonetheless pose anyone off the page. Perhaps it's all those years of yoga, but her inner serenity and ferocity when it comes to her body language go hand in hand. She can be dynamic, she can be avant garde, she can be powerful, but she's always amazing.

Naomi Campbell (May 22, 1970) What can be said about Naomi Campbell that hasn't already been said that won't land me in jail? The preeminent black supermodel of the past 50 years, Naomi recently celebrated her 25th year in the modeling industry, though her personal life remains front page material. Famous for her temper, the super has managed to stay in the spotlight because she's got more to offer than just a cell phone to the head. A versatile editorial model, she also possesses the best walk ever seen on a runway.

Aiming to improve maternal and child health, Every Mother Counts is co-sponsored by two of Turlington’s brand homes, Maybelline and Roberto Coin. Having already raised $70,000, Turlington is running to raise awareness along with nine other friends and supporters.

Now that her husband, Ed Burns, is taking a break from film, he can stay home with the kids as Christy runs 21 miles over the weekend to prepare for the 26.2 mile trek next month. In addition, she’s also indulging in that rare model activity: eating.

“One thing you have to do is carb-loading,” says the super. “That is something I had always heard about but never really knew what it involved. It’s kind of nice to say you have to eat carbs. That’s my job right now.” [WWD]

White reminisces on so-called “happier times” in the Telegraph for no other reason than to spill this photo of of herself with Naomi — wearing a little Whitney Houston on her face — and BFF Christy Turlington before the Burns.

Picture it, the early 1990s. White’s three major clients, the Holy Trinity — Naomi, Christy and Linda Evangelista — command a staggering £300,000 for a campaign (that’s like half a mil in $$) and won’t even get out of bed for less than $10,000.

Naomi, surprisingly, let all that success and ferocity go to her head; or as Carole puts it “when everyone is telling you that you look fantastic, showering you with gifts and wanting to befriend you, your perception of life gets distorted.”

Tell me about it, that’s the story of my life.

While Christy was “a dream, very professional and calm” Naomi was” less disciplined,” often showing up late to shoots if bothering to show up at all. White then points to this one time Naomi apparently wiped out an entire genus of plant:

[A] Dutch nursery named a rare black tulip after her and asked her to promote it. Hundreds of the flowers were driven to London in a refrigerated van to fill a studio. Naomi was supposed to lie in the middle of them for a commercial, but she didn’t turn up for the shoot – she was sick. These poor guys watched the tulips wilt in the studio and the ad never happened.

Emmanuelle Alt is writing her own ticket for VOGUE Paris. I was not expecting a fundamental change in the Editorial Direction being that she has been the Fashion Director of the magazine for over ten years and collaborating with Carine Roitfeld. Thus the assumption that there would be little change from the status quo. However, the April 2011 issue of VOGUE Paris gives a clear new direction; bye bye porno chic, provocation, unjustified nudity, welcome softness, lifestyle, casual clothing. Emmanuelle’s approach is more consensual and obviously more commercial, which the fashion customer might find more accessible.

I want to show in French Vogue more and more a lot of clothes … It’s a different point of view, but nobody gave me a mission to change it or make it more commercial. she stressed in her WWD’s interview

Her vision of fashion is also conditioned by the choice of photographer she has decided to collaborate with and thus don’t expect any radical changes in those she has already worked with.

I want to keep the quality, the photographers we work with—David Sims, Mert and Marcus, Mario Testino, and Bruce Weber. I don’t think there should be radical changes. The magazine should still be chic and sophisticated. VOGUE.com interview

There has been one huge surprise however… The Return of Hans Feurer in VOGUE Paris is great news and a welcome change.

Hans Feurer’s style is easily recognizable:

• Outdoor shoots, long lenses, grainy film aspect, blurred background, sharp on the model (bokeh effect), sunrise or sunset light and often with the introduction of back light and flare.

This style was in “VOGUE” in the 70′s and 80′s and has come back in to fashion since certain internet bloggers started to photograph street fashion a few years ago. The styling often associated with his photography is ethnic, tribal in wildly natural spaces. However, he can express himself in a more urban environment as he did recently in French VOGUE with Supermodel Anja Rubik.

Feurer, a highly renowned fashion photographer in the 70s and 80s, is Swiss born and studied photography in London. In the ’60s, he became a photographer for British Vogue, Vogue Paris, US Vogue, Marie Claire, French Elle… He photographed most of the major supermodels from Claudia Schiffer to Laetitia Casta with Yasmeen Ghauri, Christy Turlington… He launched Amber Valletta in French Elle Magazine.

Who do you dream to photograph?

- I had the chance to work with the most beautiful women in the world from Pat Cleveland, Christy Turlington to Stephanie Seymour… Kate Moss is the only one that I haven’t photographed. Excerpt of his interview in the Contributor Section of French VOGUE April 2011.

I would add “so Far”… , but I have the feeling that with his statement in the Contributor Section of the magazine, this omission will be repaired quickly enough.

In the early 60′s, he was assisted by French Photographer Patrick Demarchelier. Hans Feurer is also renowned for his collaboration with Kenzo for several of their Ad Campaigns in the 70′s and 80′s and was well known for his shooting of lingerie and swimsuits in a beach environment. In 1974, he directed the famous Pirelli Calendar.

Over the past few years Hans Feurer is back on track with magazines the likes of Numéro, I-D and VOGUE China, etc…

I really appreciate the fact that Emmanuelle Alt went for the original “Real Deal” photographer rather than one of the numerous copies amongst the younger fashion photographers emulating his and Eddy Kohli‘s style.

Cindy is rarely seen on a runway or in an editorial these days, but whenever she crops up it’s a pretty big deal, like mama bird coming home to the roost.

Christy Turlington (Jan. 2, 1969) Quietly stunning, Christy Turlington can nonetheless pose anyone off the page. Perhaps it’s all those years of yoga, but her inner serenity and ferocity when it comes to her body language go hand in hand. She can be dynamic, she can be avant garde, she can be powerful, but she’s always amazing.

Naomi Campbell (May 22, 1970) What can be said about Naomi Campbell that hasn’t already been said that won’t land me in jail? The preeminent black supermodel of the past 50 years, Naomi recently celebrated her 25th year in the modeling industry, though her personal life remains front page material. Famous for her temper, the super has managed to stay in the spotlight because she’s got more to offer than just a cell phone to the head. A versatile editorial model, she also possesses the best walk ever seen on a runway.

Wilhelmina Cooper (1939-1980) Before starting her own modeling agency in 1967 (yes, that Wilhelmina), the Dutch-born Cooper appeared on some 300 magazine covers, and still holds the record for most covers of American Vogue: 27. Though Gwyneth Paltrow is slowly sneaking up on her.

Veruschka (May 14, 1939) The Countess Vera Gottliebe Anna von Lehndorff was forever immortalized in Michelangelo Antonioni‘s 1966 classic Blow Up, writhing around on the floor, turning, giving and generally destroying everything in the room. At 6’1 with size 13 feet, some might say she was tranny…”some” like me. Either way, before Lidna refused to get out of bed for $10,000, Veruschka was making that in a day. Go. Head. Tranny.

Jean Shrimpton (Nov. 7, 1942) Shrimpton was a sensation almost immediately when she started modeling in 1960 and is perhaps the world’s first supermodel, despite Janice Dickinson‘s drunken claim to the title. One of the most iconic faces and bodies of the 1960s (her slim figure earned her the nickname “The Shrimp”) Jean caused a stir in 1965 when she wore a mini-dress on Victoria Derby Day in Melbourne. It was so easy to cause a stir back then; now someone has to smuggle blood diamonds just to get some attention around here.

Naomi Sims (1948-2009) Before there was Naomi, there was Naomi. The first black supermodel, Naomi Sims worked overtime to break into what is still a largely racist industry. With a little help from Wilhelmina Cooper, Sims officially made it when she appeared in an AT&T commercial in 1968 wearing a Bill Blass ensemble. And I bet she never threw her phone at anyone…no, she probably did.

Twiggy (Sept. 19, 1949) A boyishly short haircut in 1966 shot Leslie Hornby to superstardom as the international supermodel, Twiggy. At 5’6 and only 91 lbs at her discovery, she ushered in a new concept of female beauty and a whole rash of eating disorders. A tradition she continued as a judge on America’s Next Top Model.

Peggy Moffitt (1939) My personal favorite 60s model, Peggy Moffitt was the original edgy girl. With her dark bangs and dark, Kohl-line eyes, she had one of the most distinctive looks of the decade. As a model, muse and eventual collaborator of Rudi Gernreich, she was immortalized when photographed in his topless bathing suit, the monokini, in 1964. How’s that for a stir, Shrimpton!

Donyale Luna (1945-1979) Peggy Ann Freeman escaped the slums of Detroit for the glitz and glamour of New York City. Here, as Donyale Luna, she was exotic and intriguing whereas in Detroit she “wasn’t considered beautiful or anything.” At 6’2, with her already striking features and ultramarine contacts, she was in high demand, scoring the cover of British Vogue in 1966. Donyale lived like, partied like and dated rock stars and died like one when she OD’d in 1979. Then 6 years later she was reincarnated as a sassy fashion blogger (Ahem!)

Penelope Tree (1950) The ultimate 60s “It” girl, Tree was the daughter of socialite Marietta Tree and British member of Parliament, Ronald Tree. When Diane Arbus took some photos of Penelope, her parents threatened to sue the photographer if the photos were ever published. Nonetheless, The Tree became rival to the Twig and inspired John Lennon, when asked to describe her in three words, to respond: “Hot hot hot! Smart smart smart!” Meanwhile, that’s either 2 or 6 words. Pull it together, Lennon.

This guide’s pretty spot-on, however, real supermodels lifespans are much longer.

Sure, the everyday, run-of-the-mill model has a lifespan of about 5 years, longer if they get in right after puberty.

But the Supermodel — the Giseles, Naomis, Lindas, Kates, Imans, Christys and Cindys of the world…they live FOREVER.

Hmm…maybe they are zombies after all.

Natalia Vodianova, Christy Turlington and Karen Elson are the gorgeous models featured in the Louis Vuitton Fall 2010 ad campaign.

The ads shot by Steven Meisel and styled by Karl Temper feature the icon models wearing some of my favourite looks from the Fall 2010 collection including those bow fronted courts.

Look out for these ads in your August glossies.

Despite not seeing the other Fall 2010 ad campaigns, I’m going to say this is my favourite.

Christy Turlington looks absolutely gorgeous in Bally’s most recent ad campaign. Shot by Mario Sorrenti in Miami Beach, the supermodel and boy toy look as if they’re in utter bliss. That fabulous snakeskin bag could easily sell itself, but Turlington makes it look down right necessary to have in your closet.

I thought you indies deserved a little Christmas magic so I jumped into my time machine and dug up a fresh and rap sheet free Naomi Campbell, some great models from yesteryears gone by, and shots when Steven Meisel was better known for his Sex work (as in being the photographer who shot Madonna’s controversial book).  It’s all from an ebay store that sells classic, highly covetable issues of Vogue from that breif period when the Supermodels ruled the pages and celebrity/model was only a twinkling thought in Conde Nast’s collective mind.  Enjoysies.

Although Penelope Cruz is August W‘s cover girl, the supermodels steal the show. Christy Turlington, the iconic 90′s supermodel and Gisele Bundchen both grace the pages of August’s W. The editorials are dramatic, strong and structured. Turlington and Bundchen, obviously, look gorgeous. The clothes are serious and paradoxically whimsical. W has beautifully woven precision and fun into their magazine. A+ for W‘s choice of models and editorial execution. Pick up a copy of August’s W today!

Although celebrities have hijacked hordes of fashion ads in recent years, Nineties-era supermodels — displaying formidable powers of longevity — have returned with a vengeance in many of fall’s fashion campaigns. Even Marc Jacobs is going back to using models for his Fall campaign.

That Linda Evangelista is starring in Prada, Naomi Campbell in Yves Saint Laurent, Claudia Schiffer in Chanel and Salvatore Ferragamo, Eva Herzigova in Louis Vuitton and Christy Turlington in Escada suggests these industry thoroughbreds remain as bankable and fascinating as Hollywood’s best beauties.

In fact, models in general — from newbies to veterans — dominate the lion’s share of European designer campaigns for next season, from Daria Werbowy in Christian Dior and Raquel Zimmerman in Fendi to Angela Lindvall in Jimmy Choo and Kate Moss in Stella McCartney. Notable exceptions to the celebrity-free ad zone include Charlotte Gainsbourg for Balenciaga and Vanessa Paradis for Miu Miu — while many American brands also are sticking to the celeb road, such as Calvin Klein’s multiple use of Eva Mendes.

Donatella Versace credits her late brother Gianni for fueling the supermodel phenomenon by sending all the top girls down the runway together in 1991.

“He made the models into celebrities as he understood that the more famous they became, the better it would be for him,” she said. “I don’t really make a distinction between working with celebrities and working with models as I think girls like Christy Turlington and, more recently, Kate Moss and Gisele [Bündchen] are celebrities, just as well-known as many actors and musicians.”
