The Sunday Mass Look:

Many of you are going to Sunday mass this Sunday because of your religious beliefs or in my case an overbearing yet loving mother who doesn’t want to see her oldest boy go to hell. (But I digress) When it comes to displaying personal style in religious situations one must put their ego aside to be respectful.  You can go or this seasons bright colors but don’t overdo it because the service is not about you no matter how bad you want it to be.

A blazer is a must and a houndstooth blazer like this one from Tallia Orange works with a variety of outfits.  This Ben Sherman shirt is a great mix of simple and detailed to stand alone or under a jacket. A tie is a must when it comes to dressing up and this Brooks Brother necktie is a great pop of color on top.

When the top of your outfit is pretty tame it is best to shock people by having a super interesting bottom. That’s what I strongly recommend a color trouser like these from Jil Sander. If you’re pants are going to be really loud then allow your shoes to tone them down. A simple pair of dressy lace ups will do the trick and Topman has you covered. The cherry on top of this outfit should be your watch. I recommend choosing one with a very classic face but going for a bright colored band like this GUESS timepiece.

Next Wednesday at Church, there will be designer previews; there will be vodka; there will be holiday cheer (in the form of hot celebrities). Holla!

So I spent last Friday night at church with other 20-something and 30 something year olds having “Real Talk” with my pastor A.R. Bernard. They are starting a new ministry for people within this particular age group, because many people believe that being a Christian you can’t have “fun,” which is simply not the case. So Pastor Bernard wanted to talk with us to find out how the church can better serve us in finding our place and a good balance as young developing Christians. The meeting started at 8pm and ended around 10:30pm, but none of us wanted to leave. We were having such a great time with great discussions and A LOT of our questions were answered. It was a very interactive meeting that provided a lot of clarity for many of the young adults in attendance.

One theme that Pastor Bernard focused on, is also a theme that he has been preaching about for the past few weeks which deals with different aspects of life. Here are just a few notes from the meeting on Friday…enjoy

• Establish a clear sense of self. When you know who you are and know your goals, values, and self-worth, your relationships and life will greatly improve.
• We do not only relate to people, we relate to God, self, places, and things. We need to have a great relationship with ourselves before we can relate to other people, places, and things. If we don’t establish self-control then people, places, and things will control/dominate us.
• The most important thing to bring in or to a relationship is : A LIFE! Get a life! Without a life it shows you are looking for a sens of self, security, and identity in someone, some place or something. You will find that what you are searching for can only be found within yourself and this causes hurt, pain, anger, and resentment
• You cannot look for an external solution for an internal problem.
• Having a life is more than having something to do- it is about protecting yourself. If you breakup with your significant other, lose your job and your possessions what is left? Don’t use people or things to define you because they can be taken away.

How to get a life

1. Establish a sense of self- self-worth, self-esteem, self-concept.  Who am I? It can’t be what you do or what you have.
2. Get a social life. Learn how to be social
3. Set personal development goals. Invest in yourself.
4. Think with your brain! The ultimate decision we make is emotionally based but use reasoning because it helps you get beyond the fairytale illusions

But this summer, for a group of friends, Church Street transforms into an epic battlefield, as they’re forced to face the true tests of ‘friendship’. Join us as we follow a tight-knit group of 7 gay guys as they face the drama that comes from relationships, cheating, partying and the rumours, any of which could tear them apart. Now more than ever, it’s safe to say that there’s never a dull moment in The Village.

David:
Singer, actor, dancer, David is a triple threat you don’t want to mess with. He moved to the big city from out West over a year ago to pursue his dream of fame. In his first few weeks of moving to the village, David met Matt, and they’ve been together ever since.

Matt:
As the editor of the highest circulated gay magazine in Toronto (Fab Magazine), Matt has established a reputable name for himself in The Village. Although his relationship with boyfriend David has been going great, Matt has recently felt torn about the big decision to move in together, and whether or not the flirting between David and friends is really as harmless as it seems.

Rob:
A business professional and newest edition to the “singles club”, Rob has been thinking that maybe this is the summer to let loose and have fun. Confused with signals that he’s been getting from David, he confides in his friends and battles his conscience to try and make the right decision… knowing that his actions may not please everyone.

Paul:
After a year and a half abroad with his boyfriend, Paul returns to Toronto single and anti-relationship. Now that he’s back, he has moved in with Rob and has also enrolled himself into the “singles club” with plans to take over the Village.

Grossi:
A waiter at a restaurant just outside of the Village, Grossi means well but often stirs up more than enough trouble with his constant need to gossip. Confiding in his friends with his constant speculations of the group’s dynamics, Grossi seems to have bitten off more then he can chew this time around.

Josh:
A DJ and music producer, Josh moved to the village a couple of years ago to escape the clutches of his conservative hometown. Since then he’s met his core group of gay friends, and enjoys being a regular in ‘the scene’. However, lately Josh has been attracting trouble as his drinking has gotten out of control and his actions and bad judgment have generated a ripple in the group, causing serious drama.

Chris:
As a bartender at one of the busiest bars in the village, Chris has seen it all. He has also been on the receiving side of Grossi’s gossip, and knows the damage that has been caused by his rumours. Chris is the first to realize that maybe everyone in the group isn’t looking out for each other…
