I’m getting a little, or a lot, of Janet Jackson circa “You Want This” slash TLC circa “Waterfalls” right now.  Which means I’m fully on board. What’s the most memorable party you’ve organized?

Last year was our ARC NY Fashion Week party in combination with Gwen Stefani. It happened on the night of her L.A.M.B. show and it was such a sexy, fun and magical night! We partnered with the artist Mr. Brainwash (of Banksy’s 2010 Oscar-nominated documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop-fame) and he painted all of our models—Gwen too! We had the party in New York and everyone came—Kanye West, Marc Jacobs, Gwen, of course, Ciara, Alessandra Ambrosio, Irina Shayk—with so many beautiful and interesting people in the room. A memorable party for me is the one that you hope will never end!

What’s your favorite social media tool? And why? 

I like Twitter the most. It’s become a great source of information for me. I wake up, look at my emails and immediately read the Twitter feeds just because I follow a good and qualitative amount of people that keep me informed of things I find interesting and funny. It’s replaced me glancing at the newspapers every morning. Facebook is a great database but it’s the dynamism of Twitter that keeps me intrigued.

Do you remember the first thing you ever Tweeted? 

That’s such a good question. I can almost guess it was an introduction of who I am, what I do, where I live, etc. And right after that I was just tweeting a lot about our models and some of their pictures. I’m going to try to find the first tweet and will “retweet.”

Let’s take a look at the Best Dressed of the night. This category has quite a bit of people, as it should, for fashion’s biggest event. These were the As and high Bs, the working girls.

Shalom Harlow is my pick for BEST DRESSED in Marchesa. This is what the Met Ball is all about – she looks breathtaking in that gown.

I almost fell over when I saw Christina Ricci in Zac Posen. She never ages a day and looks super sexy in this sheer number.

I found Mary-Kate’s dress underwhelming, but Ashley Olsen looks ravishing in vintage Dior Haute Couture. The whole look is perfect.

Elle Fanning looks like a little couture doll in Valentino. She is so outshining her sister, it’s not even fair.

Rihanna has been looking haggard lately, so I was pleasantly surprised at how elegant she was in this striking Stella McCartney gown.

Iman, also in Stella McCartney, turned it out in a metallic gold jumpsuit. A little draggy, a lot amazing.

Karolina Kurkova in a spring 2011 Jean Paul Gaultier lace legging-dress creation. If the models can’t do it, who can?

I love this Prabal Gurung gown and funky jewelry on Ciara. White could be difficult to pull off at the ball, but she did it right.

Even though Crystal Renn is too skinny for my taste, she is an absolute vision in Alexander McQueen. I need my hair to look like this.

After getting ready in a Barneys window yesterday, Daphne Guiness showed up in McQueen. Perfect, amazing, stuns.

I loved Ginnifer Goodwin‘s look from the moment  I saw it. Then I realized it was custom Topshop. Damn she makes it look good.

Naomi Campbell looks like the queen she is in custom McQueen. She wears the sedatives well too.

Hamish Bowles looks like a true gentleman in custom McQueen. Love it from head to toe.

I always wait with baited breath to see what Blake Lively is wearing. She obviously did not disappoint in a Chanel toga.

New York’s best couple showed up looking better than ever. Beyonce is working that Emilio Pucci gown like whoa.

Queen Bitch Anna Wintour gave her best smile to the camera and looks like a shiny grandiose statue in Chanel.

On to the Most Boring of the night. On any other occasion, these folks would have looked great (probably). Unfortunately, this also means they’re the Cs of the Met Ball.

I’m sleeping. Zoe Saldana is usually among the best dressed. Why did she choose this boring Calvin Klein for the biggest fashion night of the year?

Leighton Meester is amazing, but she has trouble getting it right. Different shoes and hair would have done this Louis Vuitton dress more justice.

I love this Michael Kors dress on Emma Roberts, but she has the body to wear something more over the top on a night like this.

Madonna, the Material Girl herself, definitely could have done better than this Stella McCartney dress. Pretty, but boring.

I’m actually quite obsessed with this Miu Miu dress Michelle Williams is wearing. But I would wear this to a nice dinner, not a gala.

And now ladies and gentleman, the Worst Dressed of the night. These are the Ds and Fs of the Met Ball, the creme de la creme of mistakes.

ARGH! Christina Hendricks used to dress so well! This Carolina Herrera gown is an unflattering fit and color on her.

Oh dear. Hate to say it Alicia Keys, but it looks like you’re wearing a giant turd instead of Givenchy. Brown jacket AND dress is NOT fly.

Jennifer Lopez looks like a halfway plucked bloody chicken. Matchy-matchy lipstick, bag and Gucci is a no go.

I thought Chloe Sevigny would make McQueen look good, but I was wrong. The hair is awful and the dress fits like she grabbed it off some rack.

Sorry to say it Kate Hudson, but this Stella McCartney is not a cute pregnant lady dress. And whatever is on your head isn’t working either.

Nooooo! In the rush of preparing for the gala, Lucy Liu forgot to get a wax! Oh wait, that’s just her looking blech in Vionnet.

Things have calmed down dramatically since then, but whenever divas duel it out in the public arena, there is an inevitable choosing of sides and bitter argument over who’s better, blah, blah blah.

Well, since I live for these moments, I’ve decided the only logical way to determine who is the baddest bitch on the block (clearly not including Beyoncé who could blink and take out both of them) is to compare both RiRi’s and CiCi’s editorials from European Vogues…naturally.

Rihanna covered Vogue Italia‘s special couture supplement in 2009, shot by the incredible Steven Klein and styled by Patti Wilson:

Then last year, Givenchy creative director Riccardo Tisci styled Ciara for a Vogue Paris shoot with the dynamic duo of Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.

For me, the answer is clear. Ciara’s editorial easily trumps Rihanna’s, achieving a poetic and sensual beauty that’s more effective than the hard, technical sexuality of the Klein shoot. Which is not to say that both spreads aren’t great, but Ciara possesses a grace and classic beauty that makes her actually look like a model and not just a moonlighting popstar in it for some free couture.

Plus, she totally gets extra points because Riccardo said this about her:

“Ciara is like a black Betty Page. A very refined hip hop queen. Although she is American, she has a sort of European class, a Parisian chic.”

Musing for Givenchy beats out openly stealing from David LaChappelle any day of the week.

1. The Fur Coat (preferably over a bikini) – Fur is an absolute necessity come winter and it’s so warm that you can wear anything underneath it. So why not throw on your favorite maillot, two-piece or speedo to sex up that dead animal carcass draped around your shoulders. Or if that’s not your cup of vodka, there’s always the reliable fur bikini: the perfect melding of two disparate worlds into one completely unnecessary garment.

2. The Union Suit – This practical one-piece, usually intended as an undergarment, is easily translatable to chic outerwear. Just think of it as another fashion-forward jumpsuit with adjustable decolletage: you can unbutton to collarbone, ribcage or navel level. And if you’re feeling especially frisky, undo the butt flap to reveal something chic…or something cheek.

3. The Muff – Basically a giant portable sleeve, the muff is perfect for concealing a compact, a lipstick or my favorite accessory, a purse gun. It’s the lady’s way of smuggling contraband while keeping those murderous manicured nails warm and unchipped.

4. The Trapper Hat – While your hands look like they are covered by a pillow in a muff, your head can look like a family of raccoons made a nest then subsequently died on it with the irresistibly comfortable trapper hat.

5. The Cape - Capes aren’t just for vampires, superheroes and drag queens (my own personal superheroes) – they’re a sleeveless alternative to a boring old coat and come in a variety of shapes, lengths and materials. And also come in handy when pretending to be a vampire/superhero/drag queen…or the resulting combination, André Leon Talley.

6. The Cowl – The cowl is my preferred method of neck warmth, not that  I have anything against a scarf. After all, you can’t dramatically throw a cowl around your neck for a scene-stealing exit, but it’s charm is in its ease and functionality. Just slip your head through one end and burrow your way through to the other. It’s like birth without all that unpleasant vagina action.

7 . Opera Gloves – This last staple is for those strapless fancy nights on the town spent dancing, boozing and schmoozing, since no one goes to the opera anymore. Adorn them with bracelets, cuffs and whatever diamonds you can smuggle in your muff to ratchet up the glamour.

And there you have it. If you have at least some of these items in your closet, this winter might not seem as bleak nor chill as many bones. And if you need any more incentive, you’ll probably save a clutch purse of dough on Halloween.

Gal pal Kim Kardashian was in attendance of course…

She went back to her roots and pulled out an Herve Leger dress, but I’m actually not mad at the dress choice.  It hugs all her curves, yes, but I like the color against her skin, and it shows that she doesn’t want all eyes on her.  Louboutin’s and a silver clutch complete the look.

DJ Clue also came through.  Wonder if he DJ’ed the reception…

Hmm… One thing he should’ve done was stamp that suit “return to sender”.  More than two buttons on a blazer is over.  Second, the fit is beyond awful.  The hat is completely unnecessary.  And the shoes just kill me softly.  They’re square-toed for one, and they don’t even look polished.  Come on Clue!  We know you can do better than this.

I like the way to dress fits on her, but I would’ve loved it in peach since this is a summer wedding.  But hmm…what’s with the tote?  Gonna sneak some rolls out at the reception?  And I’m not really fond of her leopard print YSL Trib Too’s.  A simple color would’ve looked better.

Tennis superstar Serena Williams was also in attendance…

Serena has been acing them with her style game lately.  I loved this dress on her, and she would’ve gotten props.  But I scrolled down to discover a wayward hemline.  Hmm…if there’s one thing that can ruin a beautiful dress, it’s definitely an unfinished hem.  Black peep-toe d’Orsay heels complete the look.

106th & Park host Rocsi also made an appearance at the nuptials…

…and it looks like she wore “the backup dress.”  The “backup dress” is the dress you wear when the dress you had originally planned to wear suffered some unfortunate mishap.  At least that’s what I’m hoping happened here.  The sequined top pretty much cheapens the dress for me.  A white blazer would’ve saved this ensemble tremendously, but I guess we can’t have it all.  However, I love the subtle bling and her nude peep-toes.

Ciara, and those legs, came through as well…

…donning an entire Versace spring ensemble.  I do love the dress and the shoes.  But I can’t help but think the length of the dress is just a little inappropriate for a wedding.  That minor discrepancy aside, Ciara looks hot.

And last, but not least, Trina…

I love the dress and the Louboutin’s, but the dress is just a little too dramatic for a wedding for me.  Hmm… now if this were a Gaga themed funeral, then this would be the go-to frock.  A for effort though.

Ciara should have been a model. Her wardrobe tends to have more hits than her records but I can’t knock the girl for staying out there. This week she attended the closing viewing of Marina Abramovic’s The Artist is Present hosted by Givenchy at The Museum of Modern Art in New York City this week.

I’m currently playing this on heavy repeat at the Fashion Indie offices. The spring 2010 video lookbook for Adidas Originals features a bunch of models videotaping each other while dancing to the perfect soundtrack. Agyness Deyn, Ana Ivanovic, Cassandra Steen, Hyori Lee, Whitney Port, Tallulah Morton, Ciara and Cheer Chen all get their groove on and even Mark “The Cobrasnake” makes appearance.  The looks are now available on line.

This is probably the one and only time I can honestly say that Ciara looks like someone who knows fashion. Looking to be having a lapse in Solange-itits, Ciara got in touch with her inner fashionista (and maybe a credible stylist) and stepped out in this crazy fierce ensemble for Nylon Magazine’s 10th Anniversary party in New York the other night. I absolutely love everything about this look; the asymmetrically tiered pencil skirt and shrunken leather jacket pulled together with a simple white blouse, wide black belt, and simple jewelry is incredibly stylish. But what really makes it pop are those delicious, fire-engine red leather gloves which add interest and color to an otherwise neutral palette. Now if she can look like this all the time she’d have a reason to stay on some people’s radar.

As part of her attempt to remain relevant, Ciara gets all avante in a spread for the January issue of Elle. I may have been a little more impressed had it not been for the literal composition: the pseudo subtle poses, the offbeat hair and makeup, the captivating, yet impractical wardrobe. It’s somewhat trite, but also refreshing, since I’m enjoying the fact that more hip hop and R&B artists are embracing high-fashion couture, whether its self- imposed or at the heedfulness of their publicist. I’ll give Ciara some credit though…it was probably her idea.
