AR is the wave of fashion’s future, adding another layer of interactivity and just plain awesomeness to the shopping experience. Adidas introduced sneakers last year, the Originals Augmented Reality Pack, featuring AR codes on its tongues that when scanned would lead to interactive games online. T-shirts by London’s Cassette Playa have AR codes that reveal horns and other weird shit on its wearer’s heads.

And in April, Burberry had an Augmented Reality fashion show in Beijing with hologrphic models catwalking side-by-side with their real life counterparts.

Fashion mags are also getting into the AR groove, with Dazed & Confused having implemented AR codes in its March 2010 issue that, when scanned with a webcam, made “the pages come alive on your screen, as a fashion film is superimposed on the magazine image,” explains the pub’s editor Rod Stanley.

As the idea of a virtual closet has tantalized me since the sartorial heyday of Cher Horowitz – everything inevitably comes back to Clueless — Augmented Reality offers a viable, though not completely perfected approximation. Though one can get the general idea of what a prospective purchase may look like via Banana Flame, the touch, the feel (of cotton) and the actual fit of the garment isn’t replicable…yet.

For now, Augmented Reality is this cool gimmick used to entice and intrigue — much like the current craze over 3-D — but unlike that gimmick, AR has the potential to completely change the way we shop — and you don’t need those funky glasses, either. [NYT]

- Take a history lesson. When in doubt, look at our corseted foremothers and dandyfied foregays for a new silhouette or sartorial point of reference.

One of my favorite pastimes is dressing according to theme: 70s Coke Whore (booty shorts, knee socks and a gold lamé halter); Hipster at Play (plaid shirt under an acid grey denim romper); Slutty Soccer Mom Chaperoning the Prom (high-waisted jean short, espadrilles, bandeau and a bolero) . The possibilities are endless!

- Revisit the classics. You ever think to yourself, “That outfit was Classic Me?” Dressing like your old self, short of strapping on an adult diaper, can make your feel new again.

- Try a formal arrangement. There was a time when men never left the house without a hat and ladies always wore gloves. Formality may have gone the way of privacy and sincerity — straight to hell — but Fancy is always in style.

- Make some movie magic. From Breakfast at Tiffany’s to The Devil Wears Prada, filmdom is full of inspiring looks and more importantly, inspiring makeover montages.

A mandal by any other name would look as bad.

Hit this: Espadrilles
An Hermès espadrille may not be ideal for Ultimate Frisbee in the quad, but it’s more than appropriate for quick munchie runs.

Psychedelia  gave us many things, none of them as enduring or as tacky as tie-dye.

Hit this: Bold prints
Pucci prints are as trippy as they come so you can easily get lost staring into them for hours on end.

3. Quit this: Hemp
A durable and versatile fabric, there are more chic ways to green your wardrobe, especially without using your green.

Hit this: Organic fabrics
If you’re all about sustainability and that crap, H&M‘s new Conscious Collection is easy on the environment and on your wallet.

4. Quit this: Puka shell necklaces
Ah, the puka shell necklace, or as I like to think of it, shorthand for letting everyone know you’re a complete tool.

Hit this: Statement jewelry
A statement necklace says something completely different, like “I’m high as a kite right now and I’m going to dress like it.”

5. Quit this: Ponchos
If you’ve been indulging a little too much in the late night Taco Bell, then by all means, drape an unflattering carpet over yourself.

Hit this: Capes
However, a cape like this Alexander McQueen number is a fashionable alternative to the poncho but on the other hand, so is anything else.

6. Quit this: Board shorts
Board shorts are appropriate on only one occasion, and that is on a surf board. Any other time is just an insult to surfers everywhere.

Hit this: Suit shorts
Tom Ford doesn’t think men should wear shorts at all, but Thom Browne doesn’t expect you to play hacky sack in a full-on pant during those hot summer months.

7. Quit this: Hawaiian shirts
Hawaiian shirts are appropriate on only one occasion, and that is on Charlie Sheen. Any other time is just an insult to Charlie Sheen…which is kind of all right.

Odds are you won’t need much to cheer you up this 420, but paisley, like this Michael Kors top, can add a dash of curlicued sunshine to anyone’s day.

A newsboy cap adds a certain air of jauntiness and charm. I mean, who would you rather get high with, beanie boy or Brad Pitt? Though the beanie guy looks baked as all get out.

Clueless (1995)- If this 90′s classic wasn’t already on your top 10 movies list of style and rich girl ways well then start jotting! Alicia Silverstone is the best prepster out there, and no matter how old we are or how many fashion trends pass by Clueless will always remain a fashion favorite… through knee-high socks, more than enough argyle to handle, feminine school girl blazzers and especially because Britney Murphy was in it too!

Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion (1997)- A little on the dumb-ass side and I’m pretty sure no one would wear as much metallic and glitter as these two on screen best friends, but it’s still fun to watch their adventure in going back to their high school reunion and dominating the Madonna-inspired blasts from the pasts.

Spice World (1997)- Victoria Beckham‘s style may be taking over the style headlines a lot more than the Spice Girls do now, but it doesn’t mean that we would ever forget baby spice, scary spice, ginger spice, posh spice, sporty spice, or any other spices that I’m forgetting in between!

Jawbreaker (1999)- Catty and backstabbing what other way would a girl like their movies, when you accidentally kill your best friend in your favorite pumps?

The Virgin Suicides (1999)- When it comes to Kristen Dunst’s careless ways she makes any film look awesome! Sofia Coppola (director) filmed the movie in an angelic sort of sunlight state, and with the simplicity of the style on the girls, from sundresses to school outfits, the obsession of five boys falling in love with mysterious sisters begins, and they watch them on the road to suicide.

Factory Girl (2006)- Starring Sienna Miller as Edie Sedgwick a muse of all muses for the New York City life style of Andy Warhol. Not to mention, Mary-Kate Olsen gets her five minutes of fame getting to rock the furs and the smoking glam of this crazy 1960′s fashion filled film.

500 Days of Summer (2009)- Zooey Deschanel would be the perfect heart breaking type girl, with her vintage dresses and humorous ways as she completes every girls dream to crush the boy who’s insanely in love with her in nonchalant ways.

Whip It (2009)- Ellen Page plays a rebellious small town girl who creates a wicked life for herself in Austin, TX. And along with Drew Barrymoore and Landon Pigg she rocks her indie-child style with combat boots, random skirts, and bizarre rock band tees!

The Runaways (2010)- When hearing the names Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart you don’t normally think of one on one girl make out sessions or drug addict… which in their case would be a good thing but luckily these two actresses rocked the hell out of bringing the Joan Jett and Cherie Curie’s wild child style to life!

Black Swan (2010)- Obviously what kind of timeline would this be without listing Natalie Portman’s surprise act of dealing with perfection and giving us a mental image of just how good Rodarte ballet wear could be!

I saw Clueless on my 13th bday, begged my dad to take us, and then we became obsessed!  We dressed like Cher and Dionne, and pointed at the girls that looked like Tai. We saw the movie again, only this time with a notepad so we can write down the quotes so that we can memorize and recite them on cue.

1. ‘As if’: prob the most famous of all, sometimes I catch myself saying this, don’t tell!

2. ‘Rollin with the hommies’: yep, def a fave!

3. ‘It is like, why am I even listening to you to begin with? You’re a virgin who can’t drive’: used this one all the time!

4. ‘Whatever’: a total classic!

5. ‘My foot hurts. Can I go to the nurse?’: very similar to SATC when Charlotte says ‘my hair hurts.’

6. ‘Let’s play suck and blow’: great pick up line!

7. ‘Duh’: used so many times I lost count!

It was a sad day yesterday when we heard about the death of beloved actress Britney Murphy. Today, we are going to dedicate a few posts to her, starting with a list of our favorite Brit movies.

1. Clueless- an oldie but a goodie, who can forget cute unfashionable Tai.

2. Girl, Interrupted- loved the scene where it was discovered that she was hiding chicken under the bed.

3.  8 Mile- great sex scene with Eminem.

4. Don’t Say a Word- how creepily did she say the words ‘I’ll never tell?”

5. Happy Feet- love her voice as Gloria.

6. Just Married- great chemistry with Ashton Kutcher.

7. Sin City- everyone’s fave abused girlfriend.

8. Uptown Girls- wish she was my nanny when I was 8.

9. Riding in Cars With Boys- “Take my gun and shoot me in the head with it tramp!” Best line of the entire movie.

Katy Perry loves the look of Alicia Silverstone in Clueless so much, she’s using it as her fashion inspiration. Expect the “Kissed A Girl” singer to be rocking some knee-high socks, cardigans in pastel shades, belly tops and mini-kilts through the summer. And in Paris? Big mistake woman. What happened to your avant-garde, unique and fun style? Now you look like an extra from Clueless. I stopped dressing like Cher and Dion over a decade ago; now it’s your turn to follow suit.

People sometimes ask me who my first fashion influences were as a young girl. I am proud to say my mom and aunt were two of my biggest icons. But as I grew into my wacky character throughout middle school, there were three other ladies I looked to for unique style ideas. Yes my friends, I admit that Cher, Dionne and Amber were my first huge fashion influences. Those Clueless girls would waltz through Beverly Hills in plaid mini skirts, thigh-high socks and marabou everything. My favorite purse- I bought it in honor of my favorite movie and tv show- was lavender patent leather with huge metal zippers and matching wallet on a chain. I carried it for years. So next time you see someone who could appear in the “DONTs,” just ask him or her in the words of Cher, “Do you prefer ‘fashion victim’ or ‘ensembly challenged’?”
