VIDEO: Cobra Starship’s ‘Hot Mess’ Music Video
Cobra Starship is really good at having a lot of really hot girls in their music videos. Check out the video for ‘Hot Mess,’ the song to the album title, and see them pick up a lot of hot, drunken girls the same way the Ghostbusters pick up ghosts. No one can be as hot as Leighton Meester in ‘Good Girls Go Bad,’ but they can try!

MOMENTS OF STYLE: Cobra Starship At The VMAs

A+ to their stylist. Our friends Cobra Starship fit together perfectly at the VMAs last night (although Gabe is a little off the color scheme, I’m glad to see him without the white Ray-Ban glasses). Although some may say they’re a little too matched, I think they surpassed most of the fashion don’ts that were out and about last night.

LAST NIGHT’S PARTY: Diesel U:Music Concert @ Webster Hall

There was no shortage in attendance at last night’s U:Music Concert hosted by Diesel at Webster Hall, and even as the night pushed on later and later the line was still going strong. Thanks to our friends over at Cornerstone, Hillary and I were lucky enough to not only see the such bands as Passion Pit, Cobra Starship, The Clipse, The Roots and Kanye West perform, but we got a chance to sit down and ask Passion Pit and Cobra Starship some pretty interesting (and funny) fashion questions.

The drinks were flowing at the all night open bar, and as Hillary and I enjoyed are drinks of choice, we warmed up the camera for the onslaught of pictures that were about to be taken.

First up, Passion Pit! Due to a few personal connections to the band, I have to admit I was most excited to see Passion Pit. The band certainly didn’t let me down either. Mike Angelakos’ falsetto was in full effect, and the band put on one of the best shows I’ve seen all year.

After Passion Pit wrapped up, Cobra Starship jumped on stage to perform a mix of new and old tracks, including Good Girls Go Bad off their upcoming album Hot Mess. The band got the dance party going for sure, and despite not having Leighton Meester come out to sing along, Cobra Starship definitely killed it.

Then came the surprise of the night! The Clipse got up on stage and performed a handful of songs, one of which “The new king of pop” Kanye West came on stage to help out with. Due to the fact that I have never seen The Clipse before, I must admit they stole the show for me! Oh and did I mention that when I tried to snap a picture of Kanye backstage I was almost thrown out of the event by his douchey bodyguard? LAME!

The Roots closed out the night with a solid performance as well. Quest Love was on the drums as always with his signature Afro flying proud. After plenty of drinks and a lot of time on our feet, it was time for Hillary and I to call it a night. A quick late night bite to eat, and back to the apartment to blog. Be sure to check out all the additional coverage of the Diesel U:Music event on Fashion Indie, I mean we were up until 5am blogging so show some love people!
Thanks again to everyone involved with the event, Karli, Passion Pit, Cobra Starship, and last but not least, Diesel.
STREET ZEROES: The Notorious Passout Girl

Ah the infamous girl who passes out at the concert before the second performer hits the stage. It’ quite obvious at events like this who the real party goers are. Mental notes people, by all means get your money’s worth at open bar, but be careful of the infamous snowball effect. Clearly this girl found herself at amateur hour tonight. Oh well, you’ll learn!
VIDEO: Cobra Starship @ Diesel U:Music Concert

The stars of last night’s (again that is assuming you are reading this on Friday, despite it being posted at 4am) Cobra Starship put on quite the show. Gabe Sporta was his usual energetic self moving all across the stage, and while the clip above doesn’t feature the expected “special guest” Leighton Meester, their synth player Victoria takes over just fine. Check out the clip of them performing “Good Girls Go Bad” off their upcoming album Hot Mess, which will hit shelves August 11!
QUOTABLE: Gabe From Cobra Starship (MUST Read!!!)

“I haven’t bought a pair of jeans in ten years, fuck you Diesel!”
Oopsies!!! Someone at Diesel isn’t going to be happy with mister Gabe tomorrow (or today, rather, sleep isn’t an option at fashion indie…we wanted you to hear it first. You’re welcome in advance from Hillary and Corey at 4:03 AM)
THE INNER-VIEWS OF MUSIC: Passion Pit

We sat down with Jeff, Ayad, and Ian of Passion Pit to rattle off a few questions before their set, and found out everything you really wanted to know:
Fashion Indie: So rumor has it you guys are sponsored by Marc Jacobs?
Passion Pit (looking shocked): No, we’d like to be sponsored by some dorky stuff (Ayad).
Manager- Marc Jacobs may be sending them some free stuff.
Ian- Usually what happens is that we endorse something, and then we get free stuff, like instruments.
Fashion Indie: Who is the most fashion-conscious member of your band?
PP: (Disagreement) Ian thinks he’s the most fashionable but Jeff and Ayad agree that it’s Mike. Mike took a fashion class, which is where the name Passion Pit originated from. Fashion Indie agrees that it is most likely Mike.
FI: Cobra Starship did a collaboration with Leighton Meester (who we actually had to explain to the guys that she was from Gossip Girl, they had no idea who she was). If you could do a collaboration with a celebrity, who would it be?
PP: Beyonce.
Jeff- No Solange.
Manager- …you probably could do that.
Ayad- We should stick with the original.
Jeff- Yeah, we might as well reach for the sky.
FI: Have you guys seen the movie Bruno? (No, not yet). If he were to style your next photo shoot, would it be the full velcro suit? Or the kilt with angel wings from the MTV VMAs?
PP: Neither, the banana hammock
FI: If you were to do a collaboration product or line with Diesel, what would it be?
PP (after some muttering, something about not liking the pricing too much, I think):
Ayad- I’d do more stuff for broad shouldered, shorter guys. (Clearly making reference to his stature).
FI: Alright, last question; who had better style as a TV father figure, Mike Brady or Bill Cosby?
PP (In up-roaring agreement): Bill Cosby, he had a bad ass sweater collection.

Passion Pit put on a killer performance. Corey is uploading videos to the Fashion Indie Youtube channel as I type! Check out more photos from their performance on Cult
THE INNER-VIEWS OF MUSIC: Cobra Starship

We had a chance to sit down tonight with Gabe and Ryland of Cobra Starship at the ‘Diesel U:Music’ event at Webster Hall, and they dished exclusively to Fashion Indie about everything you really wanted to know:
–
Fashion Indie: First and foremost, how incredibly hot is Leighton Meester?
Cobra Starship: Really hot! She’s the hottest she’s ever looked in our video. In Gossip Girl she’s in high school, but in our video she brought it.
Ryland: She’s really shiny.
Gabe: She’s got the blonde hair, like Betty to Veronica. She’s a bad girl. They both agree, she’s a total babe.
FI: Ryland, if you could steal an article from Gabe’s closet, what would it be?
CS: My retro Jordan 2 Low-tops.
Wait, what?….Apparently Gabe stole a pair of Ryland’s Jordan’s, and he keeps them in his “cloffice,” or closet office, which he described as “I keep a stack of sneakers and I have a little desk.” Just what I want, more space for the clothes and shoes, and a tiny desk to work from. So I guess if Ryland had to choose an article of Gabe’s clothing to steal, it would be one of his own, and Gabe agreed that if he had to steal an article of Ryland’s clothing, it would be the Jordans that he already stole.
FI: If your upcoming album, Hot Mess, were an article of clothing, what would it be?
CS (Both agree): After simply blurting out thong, they rediscuss the question to come up with a dirty long tank top with holes in it and no underwear, after a five day binge, with puke and blood all over it, and one nipple showing.
Side note- The guys told us that the tattoo on the girl’s lip on the cover of the album is actually a real tattoo. Nobody knew it, but it’s totally true.
FI: If you were to do a collaboration product of line with Diesel, what would it be?
CS: A stretch denim unitard, maybe in full cobra print. 90% Stretch Denim, 10% Lycra
FI: How do you guys dress for the stage?
CS: Gabe- Honestly, we’re posers, we play to the crowd. If we’re playing for a bunch of fifteen-year-olds that love hoodies, we’ll wear hoodies.
Ryland- And if we’re playing for a bunch of Republicans, we’ll wear blue suits and red ties.
FI: Who is the best dressed in the band?
CS: Gabe- Ryland. He reads The Sartorialist and stuff. I just shop at the mall.
Finally, we saved the best for last:
FI: If you were on ‘Nickelodeon Super Toy Run,’ what toy would you be gunning for?
CS uproar: Gabe doesn’t know what ‘Nickelodeon Super Toy Run’ was because he’s an “immigrant” and didn’t have cable, which turned into him calling us racist because immigrants couldn’t watch Super Toy Run, but Rylan quickly replied “The Voltron full set, the metal one, not the plastic one.”

The guys put on a great show, Corey’s uploading the videos as I type! Check out a gallery of their performance on Cult

VIDEO: Leighton Meester Pretends to Sing

Leighton Meester helps our her friends from Cobra Starship by pretending to sing in their new “Good Girls Go Bad” music video!

IM OVER IT: Gossip Girls And Boys Making Shitty Music

We’ll start at the root of the problem, Ed Westwick. Ed has a band called The Filthy Youth that he has put on hold to finish up with Gossip Girl. If you’re putting your so called “punk” band on hold to shoot a show called Gossip Girl, you shouldn’t be in a punk band. Not to mention the band really isn’t good. Don’t believe me? Check out their MySpace.

Next up Taylor Momsen. Trying to follow suit with Ed Westwick, she started a grunge inspired band called The Reckless that also isn’t good. Her bandmates suck, she’s awkward on stage, and there is a reason she got cut from being Hannah Montana back in the day, because she can’t really sing. I’ve listened to her songs over and over, and she sings in a monotoned voice. The point of grunge music is to scream and squeel, and while she tries she doesn’t succeed. If she really wants to start a band maybe something the in light of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs would be a bit more appropriate. Taylor has the look, she just needs the material to back it up.

And finally there’s Leighton Meester. Much to my suprise, B can sing (but then again so can anyone with auto tune)! Never the less, Leighton has by far the superior voice to the prior two, but again I don’t know where her intentions are with music. She chose to do her major debut doing guest vocals for the hipster dance wannabe’s Cobra Starship, but I’m interested in seeing where her career takes her. She belongs in pop music for sure.
For all these aspiring rock stars, maybe their music should remain a hobby. They will forever be cast in the shadow of their Gossip Girl Upper East Sider shadows. Not to mention, I thought that Jennifer Love Hewitt proved to world that sitcom stars can’t become triple threats (not since Jared Leto I guess, but look at him now!).
Here’s a video of the Cobra Starship song that Leighton is featured on. This isn’t the actual video, but that kid really sums up my point that Leighton picked the wrong song to debut on:
