As the “Serial Designer,” Gaultier shares the screen with some sassy British popstar puppet named Irene and in the first video helps her find her inner rock chick with the help of some miniature leather and lace.

I’m not sure that Gaultier will lend his image and/or expertise to Coke’s range of non-diet drinks but as a fashion designer it would be irresponsible of him to advocate anything with caloric content. [Vogue UK]

Coco-Cola, The New York Times, Ford, Old Spice and, my personal favorite Captain Morgan, are a few of the companies that took advantage of Facebook’s brand timeline going live this morning. Some feature detailed histories going back decades and decades —  for instance, the front page of the Times from when Lincoln was shot in 1865  –  and some are just plain horse shit — who knew Old Spice was co-founded by a one-eyed Australian ninja leopard? Noted social media superstar Burberry, unsurprisingly, was also one of the brands to jump on the timeline bandwagon, as were super-retailers Macy’s and Walmart. Below, some highlights from their past.

Burberry's page starts with the company's founding in 1856 when it opened its first store in Basingstoke then hops to the early 20th century when Burberry laid the groundwork for its iconic trenchcoat and outfitted Arctic explorers and record-breaking aviators. Winding along, you'll discover a photo of gabardine ski suit form 1920, an ad campaign from the 30s, Audrey Hepburn kissing George Peppard in the rain -- both wearing Burberry trenches -- from 1961's Breakfast at Tiffany's, and video of Christopher Bailey wishing a very merry Christmas from 2009.

Rowland Hussey Macy opened his "fancy dry goods"  store in 1858 on 6th Avenue and 14th Street then in 1924 it became the "largest department store in the world."  Also that year, Macy's debuted its annual Thanksgiving Day Parade, originally known as the Macy's Christmas Parade, featuring animals from the Central Park Zoo. Giant helium balloons were added in 1927 and the spectacle was televised for the first time nationwide in 1948. In 1994, 136 years after its founding, Macy's became America's largest retailer, while still maintaining some of its "fancy" roots.

The first Walmart opened in Rogers, AZ in 1962, with its first "Discount City" opening two years later. Everything else is pretty much Snoozeville after that and there's not even any mention of when Walmart was bought out by Satan. I believe it was the early 80s. But did you know that Old Spice is directly responsible for the breaking of the sound barrier?

The collaboration features totes, t-shirts, baseball caps, posters, and iPhone covers.  The collection is inspired by Coke’s rich tradition a including  signature slogans, logos, and images. They even went into they’re archives and revived an old Coke symbol from the 1910′s and put them on the baseball caps which are also in the same style of the times.

Cuan Hanly, VP/GM of Jack Spade, said “Given both Jack Spade’s and Coca-Cola’s heritage in design, pop culture, and whimsy, we feel the products truly represent this.”

Turns out Alaïa is not that big a fan of either Chanel commander Karl Lagerfeld or Vogue‘s bobbed despot Anna Wintour.

About Lagerfeld, the diminutive designer mused:

“Happily, women love me and buy my clothes, unlike Karl who’s never been loved like me! [Laughs.] . . . I don’t like his fashion, his spirit, his attitude. It’s too much caricature. Karl Lagerfeld never touched a pair of scissors in his life. That doesn’t mean that he’s not great, but he’s part of another system. He has capacity. One day he does photography, the next he does advertisements for Coca-Cola. I would rather die than see my face in a car advertisement. We don’t do the same work. And I think that he is not doing a favor to young [designers] who might think it works that way. They’re going to fall before they retire.”

Buuuuurrrnnn. As for Wintour, there’s certainly no love lost there:

“I said it before. She runs the business [of Vogue] very well, but not the fashion part. When I see how she is dressed, I don’t believe in her tastes one second. I can say it loudly! She hasn’t photographed my work in years even if I am a best seller in the US and I have 140 square meters at Barneys. American women love me; I don’t need her support at all. Anna Wintour doesn’t deal with pictures; she is just doing PR and business, and she scares everybody. But when she sees me, she is the scared one. [Laughs.] Other people think like me, but don’t say it because they are afraid that Vogue won’t photograph them. Anyway, who will remember Anna Wintour in the history of fashion? No one. Take Diana Vreeland, she is remembered because she was so chic. What she did with the magazine was great, with Avedon and all the great photographers. Vogue remains while its fashion editors come and go.”

Seriously, that’s the ballsiest thing I’ve ever heard, read or seen. If Azzedine Alaïa wasn’t literally 300 years old and a totally important designer, his head would be mounted above the fireplace of Anna Wintour’s stately country manor. Right next to Sienna Miller. [Fashionologie]

I love this look on Whitney – the dress is adorable and those coral Manolos are to DIE for. I wish she was working the carpet a little more though. Some expression in the face or a better pose wouldn’t kill her.

According to WWD today, Karl Lagerfeld is slated to design three new aluminum bottles for soft drink giant Coca Cola. If anyone remembers his last collaboration with the megabrand, the bottle, which retailed at Colette for $81, featured an iconic image of the designer himself. Having encountered Mr. Lagerfeld on a handful of occasions—and never without a Coke Light in his hand—I’m excited to see what he’ll do next: few know the brand more intimately than he.

Here are some really cool tips from Verdi:

1. Instant photos make great place cards- take your guests photo with a Fuji Instax camera as they arrive and set their spot on the table.

2. Cored apples can make great candle holders.

3. Mismatch dessert plates then mix with all white dishes for a change at the table.

4. Crayons and paper are a creative way to keep kids at the table.

5. Instead of preparing dessert yourself, serve mini cupcakes and have your guests decorate their own.

6. Use spread rose petals as your table runner.

8. Make a red holiday treat station with red colored treats such as red Twizzlers, Swedish fish, red M&M’s etc…

Coca-Cola that is.  What else could we have been talking about?

Uncle Karl is now putting his stamp on the beverage world. He was asked by the soda company to design a special edition aluminum bottle for their product Coca-Cola Light. This being said he slapped a  on a silhouette of himself, signed the bottom of the bottle and called it a day.  If you order this bottle in a box set you at least get an interesting looking box that contains a bottle opener. Coke on the Runway? Yeah, you never see it but you know what’s happening backstage. Oh, wait, Coca Cola?!? Yeah, I guess that makes more sense.

It’s Fashion Week in Milan, Italy and yesterday instead of models with hour-glass figures, the models were shaped like Coke bottles. That’s because they WERE Coke bottles…

Coca-Cola Italy, in collaboration with The Abruzzo Charity Project enlisted 8 female designers to design sleeves for a limited amount of “Coca-Cola Light” bottles (Italy’s version of Diet Coke) to be available starting September 25th. Donatella Versace, Alberta Ferretti, Anna Molinari from Blumarine, Veronica Etro, Silvia Venturini Fendi, Marni’s Consuelo Castiglioni, Angela Missoni and Rossella Jardini at Moschino were the designers asked to participate, they said yes and the result is fabulous. 

The proceeds will be used by The Abruzzo Charity Project to help people/families affect by the devastating earthquake last year.

They kicked off the project at Fashion Week on Friday by showing the designs on the runway in the form of Coke bottles walking the runway…great idea.

Last year at the exact same time, Coca-Cola asked Roberto Cavalli to design bottles featuring his staple animal spots and stripes and it was very successful. This was the amazing result:

Oh how I wish these bottles were available here in the US. I may have to plan a trip back to my family’s homeland, see some relatives and enjoy a designer bottle of soda…

Manolo Blahnik has designed another bottle for Coca-Cola Light (his first bottle was in 2005, during his Sex and the City days).

Here’s a sneak peek at his new design (left), which is obviously all about shoes.

In January, Nathalie Rykiel (daughter of Sonia) will release her designer Coca-Cola Light bottle.

An exclusive to France, the crystal-studded aluminum bottle follows Italy’s Cavalli-designed Coca-Cola Light bottle earlier this year.

Roberto Cavalli has chosen to “dress” a limited edition of the iconic “Contour” bottle for Coca-cola Light, with three different designs. 300,000 of the bottles will be made, and the limited edition series will be distributed September to December 2008, exclusively for the Italian market.

These two icons are drawn together by the way they approach the female world: every woman has an irrational, unexpected side to her that’s unique and special, and so exquisitely feminine. That’s the concept at the heart of the Coca-Cola Light communication. Roberto Cavalli shares and expresses the same concept through his creations, intended for a woman who’s glamorous, strong and seductive.

“I had a lot of fun creating three different “dresses” for the legendary silhouette of the Coca Cola Light “Contour”. They are seductive and feminine, in typical Cavalli style. They’re designed for the world of young people, which has always been a great inspiration to me”.
