VIDEO: Ash Symest For Metal #17

Cole Mohr may be Kirby’s love obsession, but Ash Stymest is 100% my idol. This video of him for Metal Magazine’s #17 issue is really cool. I’ve been considering getting my hair cut similarly to his, what do you think?

RUNWAY RUNDOWN: General Idea Spring 2010 Collection

There were maybe three shows I went to this Fashion Week that I truly enjoyed, and one of them was General Idea. The Korean brand has really exploded into the United States, and their show that took place at Exit Art a couple days ago was amazing! The collection featured great patterns, solid splashes of color, and some of the best looking gladiator sandels around!

SPREAD UM: Cole Mohr For I <3 Fake Magazine

Haven’t seen to much of fashion’s former golden boy this season, but he has been all over the print scene. Here’s his latest for I <3 Fake Magazine.

OUT WITH AARON K: Nutty-Acting

I’m always surprised at how busy and nutty-acting everyone gets during Fashion Week prep. Everyone is in a huff. I’ve seen a lot of models in Soho, they’re almost all in huffs. Except for the “It” models, you know like Ash and Jethro. I bet they’re never in anything like a huff, they’re only in magazines. Is Cole Mohr still “It”?

Anyway, I got invited to the model casting for Duckie Brown. It made me feel a little special, but whenever I told anyone they sort of laughed. Everyone thought I was trying out to be a model, I wasn’t. Duckie wanted me there to cast models, and pretend to DJ. I really like pretending.
It was self-defeating though. The casting, I mean. I was the short, pasty, black-clad kid with grandma glasses and bad hair. Everyone around me was 6 foot tall, healthy, fit, and beautiful. It was awful, and amazing. Amazing because they were changing and naked and trying on great clothes.

Two boys I party with came on a go-see. Is that an official term? Go-see? Or did Tyra make that up for America’s Next Top Model? But, right, Jace and Harvey came on a go-see. It was nice seeing them out and about during the day. And I think both of them were cast, because they have amazing walks and are so handsome.

Oh. Did anyone see that Craiglist missed connection from Tuesday? A friend posted it to my Facebook. I think someone I know, a boy, gave a man a blowjob at the Box while his girlfriend watched. It all happened on the balcony, I mean, I must have been a few feet away. Was it you? Tell me the truth. I need the scoop.
I think it’s a good nightlife when things like this can still happen. It reminds me of Studio 54.

It’s so sad that the Ruff Club is ending. I don’t know what else to say. It’s the end of an era, or something. There’s a rumor that Peaches Geldof and Jethro Cave will be there. That they’re going to DJ. I love Nick Cave, and his son Jethro is amazing. I didn’t know that Peaches is still around. Can I have her job? What is her job?

P.S.
I forgot to mention I met Christopher Sauve and Julia Frakes yesterday while creeping Soho with Alex. Chris was the nicest, like so pleasant. Julia was a button, but I kind of think I squeezed her hand too hard. Alex thought her pants were a great Beacon’s find, but of course they were Erin Wasson. Nicollette said Julia was a downtown luminary.

I guess she must be if she’s curating a collection at Screaming Mimi’s for Fashion’s Night Out. I’m jealous, wish I was curating a collection.
Did you know that even the Disney Channel changes its New York programming before and during Fashion Week? I told you, nutty-acting. Everyone.
FIRST LOOK: Barneys New York Fall 2009 Denim Catalogue

I’ve always been relatively impressed by the denim variety carried by Barneys New York, and further gaining my stamp of approval is the Barneys Fall 2009 denim catalogue. It’s been a little while since we’ve seen Cole Mohr or Ash Stymest work on anything of substance, let alone work on modeling gig together, but the boys are back in the Fall 2009 mailer and looking better than ever! Really folks, jeans are never going out of style, so if you’re in the market for some new denim, I’d say Barneys is the place to look!

25 UNDER 25: Stylish People To Know

We’ve composed a list of the twenty five most stylish people we know under twenty five (well, a couple are “25″). Influences, creatives, or just plain crazy people, here’s Fashion Indie’s take on who to know, and who we wish we were as stylish as:
Celebrities-
Rihanna- Ri’s been really stepping it up lately. She’s got a wide range of looks, and is starting to find a world of her own when it comes to her style.
Lady Gaga- Everyone knows she’s crazy. Lady Gaga is definitely changing the views of fashion right now
Taylor Momsen- Are you surprised? You know we love her.
Emma Watson- The young HP actress is growing up! And looking hot at every event, if we do say so ourselves.
The Olsen Twins- They’ve been in the fashion eye for awhile now, and now that they’ve got some of their own lines, they always look awesome.
Zoe Kravitz- Lenny’s daughter! This teen has been making a lot of appearances lately, and looks good!
–
Models-
Chanel Iman- Our favorite model to follow on Twitter. Chanel is so adorable, and has really awesome style (check out those boots!)
Tallulah Morton- She’s all over the Cobra Snake (in a Cory Kennedy way), and always looking fly.
Cole Mohr- This is for you Kirby. Cole brought boyish and grunge to the fashion forefront, for models anyway. Plus he’s incredibly handsome, which definitely isn’t a bad thing.
Ethan James- Ethan is being seen more and more on the fashion scene (Milan fashion week, H & M, tons of editorial spreads), and has a similar look to Cole. I actually went to high school with this Ford model, and he’s been the most stylish guy I know since he was 15.
Jethro Cave- Pioneered the half-shaved head. LOVE those hanger tattoos.
–
Fashion Personalities and Party People-
Alexa Chung- Whether she’s dressed to kill or wearing denim cutoffs, Alexa Chung is always on top of her game.
Chloe Sevigny- Great designer, great style icon. I’m in love with her buckle booties, which she is seen wearing a lot, paired with skinny pants or cute dresses. Definitely a hipster style icon. We know she isn’t exactly under 25, but she’s been around for so long as a stylish designer to know, and like our moms, is one of those women that turn 25 every year for the rest of their lives.
Peaches Geldof- This social always looks gorgeous (as do all the Geldofs), for events or on the street with her fake fiance.
Aaron Kolfage- Fashion Indie’s favorite party host and dear friend, Aaron always looks fierce on Friday nights at Ruff Club. He dresses with such creativity, I haven’t seen anything like it anywhere else. This weekend, Aaron was wearing a giant tulle bowtie with a brooch in the middle, and I was mad jealous. Aaron gives us Midwesterners hope for being incredibly stylish, he’s from Michigan!
Fashion Bloggers-
Pelayo of Kate Loves Me – This guy, and his girlfriend, both have killer style. He wears some of the craziest things I’ve ever seen (including Louis Vuitton mesh tights!), and has perfectly coiffed hair at all times.
Lovisa The Intern- Lovisa Drever is all over Lookbook.nu, but I know her from Waffles + Falafels (who even briefly carried a shirt with her photo on it). She’s got a killer sense of style and can pull anything off, plus adds to the crazy personalities of W + F, who are some of my favorite people.
Six Six Sick Girls- These hosts and bloggers DIY matching outfits for their events, which include everything from red wigs to elbow gloves. They not only have a crazy (and matching) sense of DIY style, they also post some (literally) sick stuff on their blog.
Kirby Marzec- Fashion Indie’s own managing editor, Kirby not only knows everything about every designer, and what’s going to be hot next season, but she also isn’t afraid to pull it off. Whether it’s drop (to the knee) crotch pants, DIY ripped tees, or metal vests, you can be assured that Kirby will wear it, and she’ll wear it damn well.
Jazzi McG- We had a half hour long talk the other day about how much we love Jazzi’s blog, and her style. A queen of DIYing and always dressed perfectly for the occasion, she’s definitely one to watch.
Tavi of Style Rookie- Tavi is no rookie, maybe in the way that ‘Rookie of the Year’ becomes a professional baseball player, Tavi dresses better than some veterans of fashion.
Camille of Childhood Flames- Another not-even-legal fashion blogger showing that you don’t have to have a career to be fashionable, this sixteen year old is a pro at mixing designer goods with things we can afford, and is also taking advantage of the DIY world.
Lucas Logan- This 18-year-old from LA is all over the internet, model/blogger (Stylish Kids In Riot)/designer, Lucas is California’s newest ‘It’ Kid, braces and all.
–
Musicians-
Uffie- I mean look at her, in.sane.
The Veronicas- I’ve followed The Veronicas since I was in high school, and their style has definitely evolved into rocker chic. They always look good separately, and even better together, on stage or off, and aren’t afraid to take risks.
The Forbes’ Ten Most Successful Male Models

I haven’t been home in Buffalo but two days and I’m already suffering from A.M.W (what physicians like to call ‘attractive male withdrawal). It is needless to say that stumbling upon Forbes’ 2009 list of the most successful male models was not only a sight for sore eyes but rather informative about the business of the modeling industry.
While the industry is dominated by doll-faced, lanky females, male models with more classic looks tend to be the most successful. In the midst of a recession, agencies have had to renew older contracts to save money, thusly narrowing the types of men represented. The Cole Mohrs and Ash Stymests, although trendy “image guys,” tend to fall once they’ve been used and seen enough. In addition, those who have been branded to a fragrance campaign tend to endure a low profile in the industry since such campaigns are so publicly widespread.
I’ll admit, it is a bit disheartening to see some of my favorites so low, or even nonexistent, on the list, but based on magazine covers and spreads, advertising campaigns, contracts and runway shows over the past two years, here is Forbes’ most successful male models:
1. SEAN O’PRY
2. MATT GORDON
3. DAVID GANDY
4. DANNY SCHWARTZ
5. GARRETT NEFF
6. OLLIE EDWARDS
7. TYLER RIGGS
8. JON KORTAJARENA
9. TAYLOR FUCHS
10. COLE MOHR

TRENDSPARK: Ugly Male Models

**WARNING** If you have an intolerance for shallow observations or you recently modeled in Men’s Spring 2010 Fashion Week, don’t read this.
The end of June and beginning of July are of importance to me for one reason: men’s fashion week. Yeah, the tailored suits and spring apparel are nice, but what I really look forward to is the hours I spend cooing over drop dead gorgeous models. The chiseled jaw. The supple lips. The piercing eyes. I’m like a kid in a candy-store!
But these past two weeks have been less than enjoyable for my model addiction. Is it just me, or are designers and bookers seriously skimping on the man candy this season? What once was a Cole, Ash, Luke and Taylor dominated field is now pillaged with some of world’s less fortunate looking creatures. Is there some sort of repulsive man trend I’m missing the boat on here?
Proceed in clawing your eyes out.

BACKSTAGE: John Galliano Spring 2010 Menswear

You haven’t seen boys in makeup until you’ve seen the models from John Galliano’s Spring 2010 menswear showing. With an Arabian Nights meets “Lord of the Flies” vibe, the boys were decked out in foliage headgear, covered in tan makeup, painted with facial hair and fake abs, making it hard to recognize even the most famous of models! Even I couldn’t recognize Cole Mohr or Ash Stymest…tis a sad day in the life of Kirby.

FIRST LOOK: Alex Dunstan’s First Time

Jump-starting another successful modeling career is Hedi Slimane and his series of photographs featuring 18-year-old Brit, Alex Dunstan. If you recall, Slimane practically catalyzed the careers of Cole Mohr, Georges Barnett, Josh Beech and Ash Stymest, so it isn’t too far-fetched to predict that Alex Dunstan is going to be the next big face in the male-model world. It’s nice to see some fresh blood in the mix, but Cole and Ash will always be near and dear to my heart! Oh, and is it just me, or does this kid look strangely like Olivier Theyskens?

BEHIND THE SCENES: LURVE Magazine Shoot with Cole Mohr

A few things you didn’t know about Cole:
1) Hates avocados 2) Peels the labels off of glass beer bottles 3) Really loves his mom 4) Likes the band Melt Banana 5) A pro at losing cellphones 6) Haunted by Lady Gaga 7) Digs William Pope L.

A few things you didn’t know about Cole:
DESIGNER TO KNOW: A(r)mor Jewelry

Having recently posted some pieces from Bliss Lau’s recent jewelry line, there’s no doubt that I’m a huge fan of the body chain jewelry, as seen plastered all over Cole Mohr, Ash Stymest and Luke Worrall in the Vogue Italia February 2009 issue. After doing my daily snoop on Nitrolicious, I noticed that Wendy was rocking out some similar pieces by indie designer, A(r)mor.
Essentially, A(r)mor creates structural body chains, just like Bliss Lau, but at a fraction of the price. While many of Lau’s pieces push the $600+ mark, A(r)mor is just as cool and basically under $200. Loving the Miko piece and how it is a dual necklace and body chain!

BEFORE THEY HIT PUBERTY: Cole Mohr

Blame it on my creepy, stalker-like alter ego, but I somehow found myself lurking on Cole Mohr’s Facebook fan page in the wee hours of the morning. These photos from Mohr’s younger years are 100% proof that some people never change. Despite the page-boy haircut and his seemingly preppy teenage style, Mohr looks exactly the same, plus or minus a few tattoos. If only we all could retain that “fresh out the womb” face…we’d be living in a world full of models.
Check out more candid photos of Cole Mohr at his Facebook fan group here!
THE BASHED: SoPopular’s Fall 2009 Campaign

Being the lurk that I am, I can’t help but Google and/or Youtube my favorite models on a weekly (okay, daily…) basis. Cole Mohr was my model prey for the day, and when I stumbled upon Berlin based label, SoPopular’s, 5 minute video campaign, starring Cole Mohr, for their Fall 2009 collection, I expected the drool to be rolling down my chin.
Yeah, Mohr looked mighty fine, but watching this campaign wasted 5 minutes of my life that I’ll certainly never get back. Here’s a brief synopsis: Still shot of Mohr in sweater #1. Wolf staring. Still shot of Mohr in sweater #2. Wolf laying on floor. Mohr spinning in circles in sweater #3. Wolf yawning. Well, the wolf wasn’t the only one yawning. Come on, where’s the goofy, energetic Mohr that I know and love? Why the hell is there a random wolf in the campaign? I know Mohr was probably an expensive model to book, but random canines don’t really make much sense, now do they?
Please, compare the two videos below. How on earth was Mohr able to keep a straight face in the SoPopular campaign? The only answer: Adderal.
Thanks Charmants!
