What inspired you to become designers?

Like most young people who couldn’t afford the latest and the greatest, we found a way to make our own out of whatever was available to us. From there, we felt a constant need to create what we didn’t see readily available.

What is it like working with your sister?

It’s a blessing. Everyone should work with their sister. It’s definitely a new relationship you have to adapt to, of course. We get to know a different side of each other, the business side. The best thing about it is we act as a strong force because we clearly understand each other’s strengths and weaknesses. Most importantly, there are never any hard feelings.

Who is your muse at the moment?

All the young people putting their right foot forward and following their hearts. We need more leaders and innovators in this world. We’ve been noticing more and more young people taking advantage of this creative movement happening.

The collaboration features totes, t-shirts, baseball caps, posters, and iPhone covers.  The collection is inspired by Coke’s rich tradition a including  signature slogans, logos, and images. They even went into they’re archives and revived an old Coke symbol from the 1910′s and put them on the baseball caps which are also in the same style of the times.

Cuan Hanly, VP/GM of Jack Spade, said “Given both Jack Spade’s and Coca-Cola’s heritage in design, pop culture, and whimsy, we feel the products truly represent this.”

The 8 artists designed 8 different watch along with matching dunnys. To celebrate them launch they through a huge event at the 5th ave Swatch store where EIC Samantha Lim was in attendance.

The eight models in the collection are available in Swatch stores either separately with a  complementary Dunny, or as part of a special Kidrobot limited and numbered edition of 300 sets.

The  Spring/Summer collection 2011 turns to wide spaces and primordial color contrasts: chalky Sahara whites, taupe pillars of stone, boldly outlined by fiery red, sky blue, and elemental black.  Dresses look easy: meticulously fitted to invite free movement. On August 10, Poketo will launch a distinctive back-to-school and fall line featuring totes, messenger bags, laptop cases, umbrellas, wallets, shopping bags, and more. The collection will be available at Target, with Macy’s to follow in the winter.

Yesterday, he debuted his collaboration with local retailer Exito. The show kicked off Colombian Fashion Week, and was so hotly anticipated by locals that his face was plastered on billboards around the city. His collection, the first of three seasons for Exito, was a wild success bringing booty to French girls and monochrome to Colombian women. We talked to him about switching from high end to high street, Colombian fashion, and sex-appeal.

ELLE: You just presented your show – when will it be in the shops?

EC: Tomorrow! That was one of my main aims: I didn’t want people to wait six months to get the clothes, I wanted a very immediate, real feel to it. You see it one night, the next morning you can go and buy the same outfit!

ELLE: And what is the price range?

EC: It ranges from accessories which are about $12, to jackets that go up to $200 – which is the same price as say Zara, but the quality is similar to labels such as APC. I didn’t just want to do something that looks good, but get a product that lasts too.

ELLE:What was the aim? Why retail after high end?

EC:I never wanted to get into high end in Colombia – the percentage of people who can afford it is very small, and they can shop abroad anyway. It’s just not what I had in mind. I wanted to bring international fashion to as many people here as possible, who don’t usually get exposed to such styles.

ELLE: And how did you express that in the clothes?

EC:Well, the challenge was to offer clothes that are internationally relevant, but still appealing to Colombian women – and so we presented fashion elements that they often aren’t aware of: layering, new proportions, accessorizing.
At the same time, we have to respect the local taste, and so we offered solutions to looking sexy, but in a more relaxed way. It’s about offering an alternative and showing you can still look hot, easily and affordably.

ELLE:Why is the relationship to fashion so different in Colombia then?

EC: They just don’t know, they aren’t informed about what goes on outside, the frame of references is limited to inside of the country, people go to local shops.

ELLE:But are things changing?

EC: Yes, they are very enthusiastic, and this project was so far very well received. I think there is a growing interest and desire to find out about fashion. Fingers crossed!

In fact, Blabbermouth revealed the collaboration is a pleasant surprise. With the help and vision of Gray, whose work has given St. John’s a high position luxury sportswear, the pair sent an array of day and night pieces down the runway with attentive details of fur trims, metallic leather, dangling chains, and strategically shredded and acid washed jeans that’s more ’80s hair metal banger gone mature than a bar hopping has-been looking to relive the good ‘ol days.

The marriage of headbangers and fashion is not an unfamiliar one, and Sixx is certainly not the only one to send his love for the art down the runway. Heavy metal icon and Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford released his line of t-shirts called Metal God Apparel, which combined the artwork of classic metal albums with the tacky graphic formatting of Affliction tees — a disappointment to his fans who expected bike chains and leather from the man who made it chic. Another unlikelyrocker-turned-designer is Gorgoroth’s Gaahl, frontman of the Norwegian black metal band, who is set to release a women’s line called Wynjo.

With the latter’s release being indefinite, and with Halford’s products looking, well, not so good, we’ll have to give the award to Sixx. Watch the video below to see his winning collection of casual wear:

In a way it was only natural for United Nude and Iris van Herpen to team up. The former is definitely the most architectural footwear brand around; the latter often injects into her designs striking elements and motifs borrowed from architecture and has recently been working with Dutch firm Benthem Crouwel Architekten, developing a concept that will be unveiled at Amsterdam’s ARCAM in mid-July.

“I was introduced to Iris after I had admired her work,” explains United Nude Creative Director, architect Rem D Koolhaas. “I offered to make shoes for her, as I know that for fashion designers shoes always come as an afterthought and most fashion designers don’t have the resources to get it all done on time.” The results of this collaboration were first seen on the London Fashion Week runway where van Herpen showcased her futuristic Autumn/Winter 2010-11 collection. Entitled “Synesthesia” and inspired by the sensations felt in one part of the body when stimulus is applied to another part, the collection featured designs that altered the inner and outer dimensions of the body’s contours, developing new volumes, shapes and silhouettes, covering and uncovering at the same time the body in architecturally constructed three-dimensional armours that created optical illusions through intricate leather strips highlighted by metallic elements.

The matching shoes that accompanied the collection – black and ivory ankle boots characterised by smooth lines with a golden three-dimensional motif on the upper and on the heel – will soon be available in selected shops. The boots are 100% handmade with high quality Italian kid leather and will be released in a limited edition: there are will be only 240 available worldwide, 168 in black and 72 in ivory. “I think the result of our work together is that of a pure and successful collaboration as Iris’ identity and our expertise and craftsmanship are joined in this marvellous product,” Rem D Koolhaas commented.

This is not the first time United Nude collaborates with a fashion designer: a while back the brand developed a few designs with Antoine Peters, among them also the “Label Shoe”, a perfectly wearable pump integrating a conceptual message about the fashion industry’s excessive use of labels. Van Herpen is at present working on the costumes for a production of Giacomo Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly”, directed by highly esteemed Dutch choreographer Nanine Linning and premiering on 5th September at the Osnabrück Theater. Will this production that mixes opera and dance inspire United Nude a collection of avant-garde dance shoes? Who knows, but you can bet that, if it ever happens, it will be the first architectural dance footwear ever released.

Iris van Herpen’s ankle boots for United Nude will soon be available from exclusive retailers and United Nude concept stores in Amsterdam, New York, Shanghai and Vienna.

The collection showcases Chan Luu’s signature wrap style, which brings together custom-dyed thread or leather with unique semi-precious stones, gold or sterling silver. The 17-piece collection consists of four different styles in a range of colors. The bracelets will cost from $95 to $225.

The collection will be sold exclusively at Edition and will debut at an event honoring the store’s one-year anniversary. It will then be rolled out to select stores and online in the U.S., Canada and Japan beginning August 10.
