Being a student is really hard. How do professor expect you to balance a ridiculous workload, overwhelming part schedule and on top of that look good at it? Believe it or not you really can. (I can tell you from personal experience.) All you need is a few key pieces to get you through.

Keep reading to find out what these pieces are.

Not all students are created equally so here are a few options.

The Traditional Student:

This outfit is great for the everyday guy. This outfit is about comfort and ease. (We all know commencement services are way too dragged out.) The colors are light and simple so they can go under any color gown.

The Fashionisto Student:

The Fashionisto Student is one who is taking the dress rules into his hands. This outfit says “Look at me. I’m graduating and shutting it down #BOOM”

The IDGAF Student:

This is the guy who sat in the back of every class and his  mantra was “D’s are for degrees” He could care less that he’s graduating and is pleased that he managed to even wear clothes underneath his cap and gown.

Today’s kind of a black and white day for me. It’s raining – the first all-day raining day of this summer to my memory – and nostalgia is upon many of my classmates and friends as they leave for college this week.

It’s nearing the end of summer, the end of August, and on the 27^th I’ll be at Yale moving in all my stuff.

I’m about to have the experiences I’ve been dreaming of since I was 5. And now that it’s here, the only emotion I’m feeling other than gratitude – towards my parents for raising me in this true haven of Northern Virginia – is the complete and utter panic of no, no, no, no, no. I’m not ready. I’m not ready to leave behind everything I know. I’m not ready for the big, scary world with no parents and no safety net. I’m not ready to move about 350 miles away. No, no, no, no, no.

Yes, that is indeed the most eloquently I am able to describe my feelings right now.

All summer long, I’ve been playing it off – oh, I’ll be too excited making friends, too busy with classes, too happy enjoying “freedom”; there’s no way I’ll miss home. And now it’s nearing the end of August, and I’m petrified.

Today I started packing my school supplies and watched some of my friends leave, and nostalgia is hitting hard. This fall, I’m falling, faltering all over my old memories.

Pretty looks at Mara Hoffman Spring 2011 presentation

The theme of California girls with international rock hippie flair came thru brilliantly in a fantastic collection. The show channeled her travel inspirations of far flung places like Goa and beyond. The runway pieces were effortless with printed dresses, hooded shorts, après sun robes and cowl-neck cover-ups.

The models were prettily styled with bandannas, messy braids and sun-kissed makeup. Ms. Hoffman designed her suits with African-inspired prints and tie-dye details in fresh, light colors. The palette included soft aqua, pink and magenta with the requisite slimming black. There were so many wearable looks that looked comfortable and flattering on non-model bodies that I could see the audience mentally checking off on their ‘to buy’ list.

Hoffman’s white bikinis featuring pops of print at the bandeau and side of the bottoms looked very relaxed and ‘chill’ as they say in Goa.

Fittingly Jimi Hendrix’s “Fire” finished up the finale and it’s easy to imagine any girl wearing these suits hearing a boy plead “Let me stand next to your fire.”

I like college. It’s the period of time you can get inebriated, act like a complete asshole in public and no one can say anything about it. You meet cool people and learn all kinds of personality traits about yourself you had no idea existed. Unfortunately, it comes prepackaged with some douche bags that must be tolerated on a daily basis. On my morning Midwestern stroll to campus, I am forced to walk down a street with about 400 fraternities on it. During the day, I will see the usual puke and piss stained furniture sitting on the lawn surrounded by empty cans of Keystone. This does not offend me by any means. But come dusk, I see these boys drinking out on the lawn, hollering at freshman and wearing ridiculous accessories like cowboy hats. Cowboy hats should never be worn in public unless: a.) you wrestle bulls at the rodeo, b.) your occupation is a ranch hand, or c.) you work at Dixie Stampede (which still sucks). Wrestling underage girls in the basement of your house doesn’t count, so please, burn these hats along with your smelly furniture. I believe the above photo says it all.
