- Dolce & Gabbana revealed some behind the scenes images of their Fall campaign via Tumblr. Liu Wen, Maryna Linchuk, Constance Jablonski, Monika Jagaciak, Isabeli Fontana, and Kate King will star in the gender bending ads next season. [Modelina]

- Looks like somebody finally made a comeback. Jennifer Lopez has been named by People as the “World’s Most Beautiful Woman,” landing the cover of their annual “Beautiful People” issue. After years of subpar rom-coms and so-so albums, La Lopez has struck gold, not only as an American Idol judge (does anyone still watch that crap?) but as a spokesperson for anything that will have her. From Gucci to Venus Razors, J. Lo is shoving herself down our collective throats, and I couldn’t be happier gagging on her. [People]

- And a Happy Belated Birthday to our favorite creative director and cat lady, Grace Coddington, who turned 70 years young yesterday!

Celebrities and Fashion have always been synonymous. However, today more than ever, fashion magazines are featuring more celebrities than immigrants trying to get into the USA for their Green Card. In many cases these highly regarded magazines are using celebrities more often than Super Models for their covers. There are many reasons for this and in my opinion some of those decisions have more to do with the Politics of Fashion than the notoriety of the Celebrity.

Why is it that some of the Biggy Fashion Mags don’t feature Super Models, but do feature Celebrities from all sectors of the Entertainment Industry?  I believe that it is because they can’t get the Super Models for their magazines. In fact their are very few magazines that can get Super Models and find it a lot easier to get Celebrities to adorn the covers of their ELLE’s, Marie Claire’s etc…

It is true that Celebs sell and can attract a large audience, but when it comes to the giants vying for THAT Top Model, that is where only a few of the Biggies like VOGUE, Harper’s BAZAAR, ELLE and a few other more obscure, but none the less important magazines like Numéro, V and perhaps L’Officiel can get on occasion.

Of course many would argue that the reason that this or that fashion magazine are shooting Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears or Paris Hilton is because they sell magazines. That may be true, but I am quite sure that if all of the major and lesser influential fashion magazines attempted to compete for the creme de la creme of the modelling industry and could only get models and not celebrities, that the King of the heap would surface really quickly. You would see immediately by the standard of the models acquired who really rules the game.

Thus again the reason why Celebs act as a great draw that diverts the attention from the obvious omission from the covers of “Fashion” Magazines of Top Models. Why would a major fashion magazine want to be judged by their peers and the public based on the fact that so and so was on this magazines cover but not on theirs? Celebs are a kind of “Hey we have Paris on our cover wearing Gucci” and not “Hey we could only get so and so and so and so competitor Fashion magazine knows that we could only get so and so because of you know why…”

I am not saying that celebrities should not be on magazine covers. I am saying that a Fashion magazine should be a Fashion Magazine and not a people magazine. Models are part of the Fashion landscape and I am hoping that we can get back to the epoch where fashion magazines did what they did and did it well and leave the people’s magazines to People Magazine.

And lastly, celebrities seem to be more accessible than agents representing those models most of the fashion magazines would love to get on their covers but won’t. They and their PR people understand that the exposure they garner being seen on the cover of Redbook could aid in them getting their next big part in that 2012 blockbuster “Calender’s End”*

So the next time you see the cover of a magazine with a celeb on the cover, you may want to ask yourself, “Did they because they wanted to, or because so and so didn’t want to”.

- Well this makes for an awkward way to come out of the gate; Emmanuelle Alt’s first cover uses the same Dolce & Gabbana dress as a February Vogue España cover featuring Constance Jablonski and an April Vogue Germany cover with Britt Maren. - Las Vegas is placing all of its bets on quirky Canadian songbird, Celine Dion, amidst massive debt, abandoned casino projects and 13% unemployment. Finally, other people are starting to see Celine as I’ve seen her for a decade of song: a savior. [Associated Press]

- Rick Genest, aka Zombie Boy aka Rico stars in Mugler Mens Fall 2011 campaign shot by Mariano Vivanco. And like Genest himself, the ads strike the right balance between creepy hot and just plain old creepy. [Nicola Formichetti's Blog!!]

- The continued downfall of American civilization as manifested in a human being, Nicole ‘Snooki’ Polizzi, took it to the square circle to introduce to some unlucky female…(?) wrestlers her own patented brand of smackdown. Admittedly, it was thrilling seeing the 36-inch guidette go to town in a leopard-print jacket and wedged boot and hopefully her wardrobe at Wrestlemania XXVII will be as inappropriate/awesome. - Well, I think we can all agree that despite the thousands of dead, missing and misplaced people, the threat of nuclear Armageddon and the collapse of Japan’s economy, the biggest tragedy to come out of the Land of the Rising Sun is the cancellation of Japan Fashion Week. Crises like this really put things into perspective. [The Cut]

- ESPN Magazine is stepping up its style game with the hire of their first fashion editor, Samantha Rubin. The reason behind the move: apparently readers want to know what their favorite athletes are wearing and how to wear it. Now we can all learn where to get and how to wear size 15 Air Jordans and XXXXL pinstripe suits. [WWD]

- Lady Gaga has not only raised the bar for shutting shit down, she’s also raised a ton of money for Japan…to the tune of $250 K through sales of her “We Pray for Japan” wristband. Put your paws up…now wrap them in this wristband. [Oh No They Didn't!]

Constance Jablonski and Liu Wen were just announced as the new faces of Estée Lauder, and Modelinia has the first campaign shot to preview. Shot by Craig McDean, it features Constance showing off Tom Pecheux’s Pure Color Night collection.

Don’t know how newsworthy it is when a company finally decides to embrace diversity after decades of ignoring a race, but Estee Lauder has just signed French model Constance Jablonski and Chinese model Liu Wen to join their roster of global beauties.

They will be joining Hilary Rhoda, Carolyn Murphy, Elizabeth Hurley and Gwyneth Paltrow – in a debut  global advertising campaigns beginning June 2010.

LINK LOVE: CONSTANCE JABLONSKI SHOT BY CHADWICK TYLER FOR GREY MAGAZINE

Chadwick Tyler’s shoot with Constance Jablonski is featured on the cover of the latest issue of GREY.  The series is gentle, yet edgy, exploring the often delicate boundary between feminine innocence and monstrosity.  Constance embraces a role that is at once playful, dark, and even grotesque, intertwining the gracefulness and exploratory nature of youth with a piercing glare that suggests something far more ominous.

The shoot draws upon Contance’s versatility and her willingness to defy conventions.  The series also fuses seamlessly with Chadwick’s personal style, embracing bodily contortion and avant garde composition, while highlighting the destructive nature of beauty.  The styling follows the same juxtapositions visible in Contance’s poses, contrasting the effervescence of light, flowing fabrics with Contance’s biting, yet vulnerable stare.

One of the beauties sporting loose curls reminds me of the “The Breck Girl” while another has Jessica Rabbit-esque waves. The makeup is bold and bright, just how I like it. Overall a fabulous spread…

The simplicity of these ads shows off the great eye makeup and simple mirror gimmick that is used. Although the idea is a bit overplayed, it does serve to show off the clothes in a better light.
