I absolutely love this moderately styled online shop which is a innovative display of some of the most ubiquitous and sought after underground labels and indie designers, made even more accessible just in case you don’t happen to live in L.A. It’s also an extension of the 300 square-foot Chinatown boutique that shares an equally eccentric and understated aesthetic, kinda like American Apparel but less crass. The company’s roster of eclectic clothiers include Costume Dept., Miss Mars, Rojas and Grey Ant making it a haven for hipsters and artists alike. New High (M)art attempts to blur the lines between fashion, art and commerce staging gallery-like 6 to 9 week shopping “installments” in store, with an “emphasis on bringing attention to the risk-takers and more forward-leaning examples of design”. They also have some random cool shit like deliciously vulgar greeting cards and vintage hip-hop records.

According to Nasty Gal Vintage founder Sophia Amoruso, her home base of San Francisco is a goldmine to some of the most amazing vintage in the world (which you have the hippies to thank for, of course). What started out as a humble Ebay store is now a venerable clothing candy shop, filled with delicious, handpicked vintage goodies from the sixties, seventies, and eighties. Treasures run the gamut of dresses, skirts, rompers, shoes, glasses and other leftovers from fashion yesteryear. What I love most about this site is that the pieces have a pristine quality, making them look as if they were made today, instead of 20 or 30 years ago. It’s nice to see vintage that doesn’t look so worn, even if it does defeat the fashion purpose.

These deliciously tacky leggings by Costume Dept. are so bad, they’re good. To those who are actually old enough to remember the era from whence they came, this was the kind of garment synonymous with crunchy hair, acrylic talons, spiked heels and New Jersey. But as far as most 80’s babies are concerned, this is just another addition to our schizophrenic wardrobe (and the perfect piece for that M.I.A. Halloween costume). The Hollywood-based brand offers a wide selection of leggings that come in edgy, throwback prints, and metallic and lame`. Made of mostly flammable material, they also come with cheeky names like Gaudy Gold, Liquid Mercury, and Midnight Madam. Bootylicious girls beware…these are for skinny bitches only.
