The brain-child of 30-year-old sales manager Stephen Motion, TubeCrush.net sprung up in London last spring as a one-stop-shop for horny Brits to upload fuzzy camera-phone pics of male Underground riders that caught their attention. Accompanied by “witty” descriptions ( “Don’t let that handsome smirk fool you, readers.  This guy is on the prowl.  For people.  To eat.  Because he’s wearing purple.  Shutup.  Happy Halloween.”), TubeCrush soon gained an impressive following.

In July, the site crossed the pond to reveal the man-candy of the MTA and also to reveal that New York’s subway cars look like trash compared to those in London. Next year, the founders plan on including women in on this institutionalized transportational stalking, as well as means for crushes to connect with their admirers.

While there have — inevitably — been concerns over privacy, Motion and his partners say they’ve only received a handful of requests to have pictures taken down. One subject even managed to profit from his unexpected exposure. Ed Norman, a personal trainer from London, was spotted on TubeCrush by a friend. After contacting the site, they linked to his personal training website for any Crusher who would “want biceps as impressive as his.”

Having thoroughly trolled through both TubeCrush and SubwayCrush — as part of my extensive research, natch — I can definitely say this is my new favorite pastime. I’m also tempted to participate and snap some photos myself on the A train today, but that would mean having to acknowledge the existence of other people on the subway — and that’s not happening any time soon. What are we supposed to do over Xmas break?!

Craigslist canned its “Adult Services” in September after 24-year-old Philip Markoff was accused of using the site for murder and robbery, subsequently committing suicide. Now the “list named Craig” has pulled the plug on its Erotic Services worldwide.

While annoying, that’s respectable by my book.

The site’s services were expected to generate $36 million this year – almost one-third of Craigslist’s total income. Good gawd! $36 million could buy so many shoes.
