The Olsens Top 2012 CFDA Nominees

Is it really that time again for the biggest prize in American fashion? Yup! The nominees and honorees have been announced for the 2012 CFDA Awards and it’s a full house. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have graduated from the Swarovski Emerging Talent pool to be nominated for womenswear designer of the year for The Row along with last year’s winners Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCullough of Proenza Schouler and perennial favorite Marc Jacobs. 6 Street Style Blogs from Cities Dissed by GQ

GQ made a lofty list of cities that bite the big one in the fashion realm. They hit the nail on the head with some cities, like with the Burlington, VT “Cool hat, stoner” comment, and Boston’s place at #1. But other cities had me questioning. Brooklyn? Manhattan? Kansas City??? Seriously, I’m not sure how NYC made the list, but much of it felt like Gentleman’s Quarterly simply pointing out the pratfalls of fashion in America. We’ve plucked out some locales that are trying, and have documented their fashion (mis?)adventures in street style blogs to prove it. And so, we bring them to you, 6 cities on the brink of redemption from GQ‘s scathing report. You decide if they deserved the beating.

SLIDESHOW: CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Announces Top 10 Finalists

Anna Wintour and her flock of the fabulous have meticulously the selected 10 designers (and design duos) in the running for the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award. Last year, Billy Reid took the top prize of $300,000, a year of mentorship and a bronze trophy. The two runners-up Prabal Gurung and Eddie Borgo each took home $100,000 and a year of mentoring. This year, the judges are Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough of Proenza Schouler (who join the committee for the first time this year), Mark Holgate of Vogue, Jeffrey Kalinsky of Jeffrey and Nordstrom, Steven Kolb of the CFDA, Reed Krakoff of Coach, Jenna Lyons of J.Crew, Andrew Rosen of Theory, Diane von Furstenberg of the CFDA, and of course the Queen herself, Anna Wintour of Vogue.
