The Kentucky Derby may be known as a horse tournament to most, but there’s another, more fashionable, contest that has been becoming more prevalent each year. The annual equestrian race may not be your average runway show, but the array of unusual hats make it quite the stylish competition. Apart from betting on horses, women (and men!) of all ages bring out their craziest getups to show off their ~~wealth~~ personal flare. Between the frou-frou feathers to the flower explosions, here are 25 of our favorite Kentucky Derby hats this year.

GAY PRIDE GIFT GUIDE: For the Oft-Forgotten Lesbian

In this, the third installment of our week-long Gay Pride Gift Guide, we explore gift ideas for that hearty, braless pillar of the gay community, the Staunch Lesbian. With her relentless curmudgeonry, her bristling idealism and her sobering practicality, she’s about as much fun as a straight porno. But at the end of the day, girls – even girls who like girls* — just wanna have fun.

*Especially girls who like girls.

The Staunch Lesbian is politically, socially and environmentally conscious and because she is, is incredibly irate and easily riled. For her, all of the world’s sufferings can be summed up in one word: penis.

- Mandals. Whether she’s gardening, marching or grandstanding, the Staunch Lesbian wants to be comfortable. Though FashionIndie has a standing war against the mandal, for the sake of pride, we’ll recommend it. That and the Staunch Lesbian, being so staunchy, will wear them anyway so she might as well slum it stylishly.

- Jurlique Daily Exfoliating Cream. The Staunch Lez, never a fan of make-up, and occasionally of deodorant, will no less appreciate Jurlique. Everyone needs some exfoliation plus the brand champions the environment and even has its own farm that the Staunch Lesbian can and will inevitably retire to.

- Unbearable Lightness by Portia de Rossi. An inspiring tome on anorexia, bulimia and living in the closet from America’s premier lesbian trophy wife will enrapture the Staunch Lez and probably incense and enrage her because of Hollywood’s pressure for women to be thin. And an enraptured, incensed and enraged Staunch Lesbian is a happy Staunch Lesbian.

- Cyndi Lauper’s She’s So Unusual. Lauper’s classic breakthrough album will have the Staunch Lez twirling her nonexistent skirt in 80s pop ecstasy. And Lauper’s ode to female self-pleasure “She-Bop” will strike a particular chord. Or two.

- Jack Daniels. The Staunch Lesbian likes her drinks like she hates her men, hard and stiff. Besides, Jack is about the only man the Staunch Lesbian will trust, even though he’ll end up screwing her eventually.

Uniqlo Tees Off with Gaga, Uncle Karl and Nikki Kids

10 celebrities from the worlds of music, fashion and film showcased their design talents to create 10 T-shirts for Uniqlo and Condé Nast Japan. The special T’s go on sale June 25th for $19.90 with proceeds going to benefit the Japanese Red Cross.

Lady Gaga, Karl Lagerfeld, Nicole Kidman, Alber Elbaz, Charlize Theron, Orlando Bloom, Blake Lively, Cyndi Lauper, Victoria Beckham and Gwyneth Paltrow lend their considerable star power to the project which is expected to donate about $1.2 million to relief efforts. [WWD]

Lady Gaga and Cyndi Lauper joining forces for the new M.A.C. Viva Glam Spring 2010 campaign, which has raised more than $130 million for the M.A.C. AIDS FUND since 1994, as captured in V Magazine Issue #64.

Gaga says: “It’s quite awkward to be talking about my passion about the AIDS crisis and the gay community while doing my makeup but…Viva Glam!”

Way to go M.A.C. This is going to be huge.

Dita Von Teese, Katy Perry. Tokio Hotel, N.E.R.D, Estelle, Cyndi Lauper, Dangerous Muse,Robyn, Róisín Murphy, Yelle, Moby, Yoko Ono, and Katharine Hamnett are the celebrities joining H&M and Designers Against AIDS (DAA) for Fashion Against AIDS, to help fight the disease and raise youth awareness.

All of the celebs collaborated with H&M on designs for T-shirts, T-shirt dresses, vests and bodies. 25% of the sales price will be donated to youth HIV/AIDS awareness projects. The collection, in 100% organic cotton, for both guys and girls will go on sale in H&M’s youth DIVIDED department from May 28 2009.

Who Thought AIDS Could Look So Good? And Tokyo Police So Bad!

H&M is teaming up with a number of different artists such as Cyndi Lauper, Yoko Ono and Dangerous Muse to design a series of tee’s that will be used to raise money for the fight against AIDS. The shirts will be released at over 1,000 H&M locations, and from what I can see the shirts don’t look half bad.
