#NYFW Trend Watch: Orange Is Burning

Edited by

Ah, that rich citrus scent wafts smokily through New York Fashion Week as many designers are using burnt orange as a carrying color throughout their collections. With varying tones of vibrance, this hue skews dark, often mixed with maroons and deep aqua greens á la Costello Tagliapietra and Band of Outsiders. In a thousand textures and a million ways, expect to see more orange burning to the ground in Fall 2012.

Lifetime’s New ’24 Hour Catwalk’ is Exactly What it Seems

Edited by

Designers. Start your collections. Now. I’ll be back in exactly 24 hours, and it had better be good and done. That, my dear, is the premise of Lifetime‘s newest competitive fashion show, 24 Hour Catwalk, hosted by our dear Alexa Chung. In each episode, four designers will create a garment, and two will be eliminated. The two remaining designers will then each create a three-piece collection with the aid of professional and mouthy sewers. At the end of those 24 hours, they present to the judges: design star and collab-addict Cynthia Rowley, PR guru James LaForce (sans Stevens) and the Very Classy fashion editor Derek Blasberg. It premieres Januray 10, 2012. See the sneak preview here.

Ponyhair Is Everywhere, And We’re Falling For It

Edited by

For those of you who are wondering if ponyhair is actually the hair side of a pony, as we too were wondering, it’s usually not. Ponyhair, also called haircalf, comes mostly from cows and can even be made from buffalo and other animals. Ponyhair is considered, like fur, to be the pelt of the animal rather than the underside from where leather is taken. It’s typically more expensive than leather because the hair has to be treated, cut and sometimes dyed before using, but we think the price to pay is well worth it. Here are seven of our favorite calf/pony/whatever-you-want-to-call-it hair pieces that are screaming fall! right in your face.

Anatomy of a Handbag: NYFW Spring 2012

Edited by

Now that the swarms of photogs, editors, bloggers, stylists and what-have-yous have descended on Milan Fashion Week, we here at FashionIndie can finally take some time out to reflect on the hectic week that was New York Fashion Week by rifling through our still bursting bags. Nothing tells the details of debauchery like the contents of a lady’s purse.

#NYFW Round-Up: FashionIndie’s Faves from New York Spring 2012

Edited by

There’s a definite consensus around the FashionIndie office regarding this season at the tents: lackluster. Gone was the excitement and the thrill of the new and in its stead stood a circus comprised of the old guard impatiently appraising the crop of would-be streetstyle stars and the army of bloggers hanging about as they waded through the muck of the nameless and the irrelevant to find a collection onto which to pin their ever-dwindling hopes . Still, there were a few shows that set the five barely-beating hearts of FashionIndie racing and had our backs aching to be clothed in their bright and bold designs.

I’m Looking Through You in Spring 2012′s Clearest Trend

Edited by

Surely sheers are sexy. They are the reason so many nipples exist on the runway. Clearly, we won’t be wearing them commando commes des models, rather these sheers are a sign that reads: make sure you are buying fantastic undergarments. Bandeaus, booty/bike shorts, itty bitty camisoles and more clothing-less-lingerie-like bras. Spring 2012 will be free of inhibition. Just ask Alexander Wang, Peter Som, Marc Jacobs and sensational others.
