This Wednesday, November 2nd, a panel of top industry leaders will converge at the Tribeca Grand Hotel for the latest Creative Minds Salon Series to discuss “The Correlation of Fashion and Culture.” The distinguished panelists are Joseph Altuzarra, the brilliant mind behind Altuzarra; Pierre Rougier, founder of PR Consulting; Jenne Lombardo, founder of The Terminal Presents; Dean of the School of Fashion at Parsons, Simon Collins; and top fashion photographer David Armstrong.

The event, sponsored by the Round Table Creative Media Group and FashionIndie‘s proud parent, LOOKBOOKS Media, will be moderated by Glenn Johnson, VP and Creative Director of Evins Communicatons and a founding member of the Round Table. Tickets are $65 and available through Eventbrite.

In this month of Americana, we want to celebrate everything in fashion, art and design coming out of our great country. And what would the American fashion industry be like without photographers? They bring fashion alive, setting the mood wished to be evoked by designers, editors and marketing teams everywhere. Here we will celebrate four American photographers to learn more about them and see some of their work.

David Armstrong

David Armstrong grew up outside Boston and traveled between his hometown and New York City when he studied at Cooper Union. After receiving his BFA at Tufts University in 1988, he moved to NYC permanently where he began work as a photographer. Starting out with black and white portraits, Armstrong began to experiment with landscapes and cityscapes in the nineties. Luckily, he also has a distinct and introspective eye for fashion – his editorials are moving and emotionally-charged.

FIRST LOOK: “Reds” By Chloë Sevigny

Instead of launching the conventional look-book for her Fall 2009 collection, the fashion savvy Chloë Sevigny is set to release Reds, a hardcover art-book featuring the photography of David Armstrong. With inspiration from her New England childhood to elements of punky skinhead culture, Sevigny felt the perfect models for Reds would be just that, a bunch of gingers! Besides serving as her collection look-book, Reds will feature the artwork of various artists, like Slater Bradley, Karen Kilimnik and Jack Pierson. Reds is slated to hit shelves sometime this August.
