RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Alexander McQueen Spring 2010 Menswear in Film Format

Directed by photographer David Sims, “the film represents a journey as artistic ideas metamorphose into their physical manifestations, and as the artist himself submits to the painstaking process of invention.”
MODEL MOMENT: Iris Strubegger

24 year-old Iris is not new on the modeling scene, her age and runway experience would have some calling her a veteran. Suddenly she has become a star; with her newly died flame red hair Iris has scored an editorial shot by David Sims and a special article about her hair cut in the July issue of Vogue. Iris has also been chosen to represent Valentino and Givenchy in their campaigns this season. Keep your eyes out for Iris, we all know that when Anna grabs a girl she holds on tight.

SPREAD UM: “L’étoffe De La Création” Vogue Paris May 2009
If you could see me right now, I’m up on my feet giving the Vogue Paris May 2009 spread ”L’étoffe De La Création” (The Fabric of Creation) a well deserved standing ovation. It’s safe to say that this is some of the best spring styling and accessorizing to date. Stylist Marie-Amélie Sauvé kept the androgynous look going, layering with boyfriend-style overalls, oddly buttoned suits, layered button ups and the piece de resistance, the “hairy” top hats and fedoras. Shot by David Sims, model Karlie Kloss pulls off the looks in ”L’étoffe De La Création” fabulously, appearing angsty with subtly boyish features. Would anyone else besides me totally wear any of these looks?!

SPREAD UM: “Aria” Shot by David Sims for W February 09

Dressed in the season’s timelessly ethereal frocks, French soprano Alexandra Deshorties channels iconic roles, from Violetta in La Traviata to Donna Anna in Don Giovanni. “I tried to give the clothes life,” says Deshorties, “and cover the gamut of the extreme human emotions that are represented in opera.”

Ad-dict: Balenciaga S/S 09 Photographed by David Sims

The first look at the Balenciaga S/S 09 ad campaign has me interested in the rest of the photos. I’m still debating if the green cube has a purpose; regardless, it looks cool. I love how the model’s makeup makes her look so statuesque. The structured white clothing against a structured dark background is an awesome play on texture. I am excited to see this campaign unfold.
