Love the suspenders, not sure I like the overly baggy jeans. Thoughts?

It really is the little things in life that make the days pass. The changing colors of the fall leaves, a lady in high heeled rain boots taking a slippery tumble and crushing her umbrella, you know the standard moments of beauty we all look out for day to day. So here’s a big thank you to APC for making their little things really count, and if anyone asks why- fuck ‘em!

FIRST LOOK: Barneys New York Fall 2009 Denim Catalogue

Picture 8
I’ve always been relatively impressed by the denim variety carried by Barneys New York, and further gaining my stamp of approval is the Barneys Fall 2009 denim catalogue. It’s been a little while since we’ve seen Cole Mohr or Ash Stymest work on anything of substance, let alone work on modeling gig together, but the boys are back in the Fall 2009 mailer and looking better than ever! Really folks, jeans are never going out of style, so if you’re in the market for some new denim, I’d say Barneys is the place to look!

Check out the Barneys New York Fall 2009 Denim mailer here!

THE TEN: Best Denim Brands

Here’s our running list of denim brands that we love, based on quality, fit, wash variety, and overall fashion-ness:

Picture 2

1. Naked and Famous- Rare and unique fabrics from Japan, high quality and satire play on our celebrity obsessed culture. Win.

Picture 32. April 77- Known for their attitude and underground influence, not wallet-breaking price. Made in France.

Picture 4

3. Cheap Monday- Tons of crazy prints and colored washes. Made in Sweden.

Picture 5

4. Replay-Great skinny and ‘boyfriend’ style, in a bunch of interesting washes. Made in Italy.

Picture 13

5. Acne- A ton of variety in mens’ fits, and repeat winner of ‘Designer of the Year’ by Swedish Elle.  Made in Sweden.

Picture 146. K(T)subi- Formerly Tsubi, currently Ksubi, this brand invented themselves based on fit, and has continued to outfit surfers in super, super jeans ever since. Made in Australia.

Picture 15

7. Nudie- Made from the best Italian, Turkish, American, and Japanese qualities using the best techniques. Made in Italy, with the only con being they don’t have a women’s line (yet?).

Picture 16

8. Diesel- I know people that swear by Diesel, mostly skinny guys who can never find sizes small enough for their 26 inch waists and still long enough for their 6′0 tall frames.  Diesel has always been known for their high-quality and long lasting denim. I may be impartial because I love everything Diesel makes, not just their jeans. Made in Italy.

Picture 17

9. Levis- After coming out with the 510 and 511, Levis seemed to have redeemed themselves as every hipster and musician’s best friend. Made in the US!

Picture 18

10. G Star- ‘Raw’ denim. Prides themselves in being about nothing more than the product itself, keeping it fashionable and well-fit. Made in the Netherlands.

Think we missed any?  Do you have one ‘go-to’ brand for jeans?

It’s taken me a while to make a decision about the denim on denim look, but after seeing it hit the streets in such variety, my verdict is in: two thumbs up! Fear not, I’m not talking about the Americana, Tommy Hilfiger blue-jean material, but the more current raw, light-washed and distressed denim. What I love about the denim on denim trend is its simplicity, its ability to be mixed and matched and its blank-slate, “please enhance me” appeal. Really, the possibilities are endless. I love the raw denims with a bow-tie, suit-coat and oxfords for a more formal, menswear look, just as I love the cutesy, springtime vibe a gal can get from wearing lighter denims with a pair of wedge heels and a big, floppy hat. For the time being, i’d ixnay on the boots…don’t want to look like cowboy, now do we?

Thanks WWD!

TRENDSPARK: Multi-Colored Denim

TRENDSPARK: Multi Colored Denim all indie

We’ve gone through the traditional blue denim, and this spring we saw an abundance of brightly colored jeans, for the summer we think that these jeans (or ones similar) will be the next hot thing.

The above jeans are from the Summer 09 Kate Moss collection for Topshop.

A black straight leg jean from Meadham Kirchhoff with contrasting blue stitching. Zips run down the middle of both legs with criss-cross lacing over the top. Cut out sections on the back of the legs. Further zip detailing at the ankles. Five pockets. Button fastening at waistband leads to a zip fly, available at Browns

This spring, denim is the new black. We’ve seen destroyed denim cut-off shorts and boyfriend jeans make it big, but possibly the trendiest look for the season is denim on top. Ever since I saw Corey rock out his denim vest last summer, I’ve been pretty optimistic about this look, but denim vests are just the beginning. The spring season forecasts denim blazers, tank-tops, tuxedo button ups and tee-shirt dresses. While light-wash and destroyed pieces are all the go for the fall, I wouldn’t be too surprised if sleek, dark-washes continue into the chillier months.

If you’re a bit apprehensive that this look might make you look like an 80’s rocker or worse, red-neck trailer trash, take a look at some of styling ideas from the Spring 2009 runways. Givenchy, Louis Vuitton and even Banana Republic know what’s up!

How cool are these jeans? It’s actually been a while since I’ve seen such lite colored denim, but they look awesome with the studs. Hope she did this herself!!!
