Gone was the excitement and the thrill of the new and in its stead stood a circus comprised of the old guard impatiently appraising the crop of would-be streetstyle stars and the army of bloggers hanging about as they waded through the muck of the nameless and the irrelevant to find a collection onto which to pin their ever-dwindling hopes . Still, there were a few shows that set <a

She generates excitement based on the quality of her work, modern beauty and intelligence.” Clearly someone didn’t see Love and Other Drugs…nor should he.

The Signature Collection is geared towards the younger and “more fashion-forward” and is inspired by Andy Warhol and French fashion photog Guy Bourdin. The bags come in ”strong, decisive tones” such as deep red, black, electric blue, fuchsia , lavender, beige and cream. I don’t know when beige became a strong and/or decisive tone, but I digress.

Hathaway, for her part, chimed in with this about the collection: ”The designs are classic and the materials are of the highest quality. As a result, they don’t grow older, they only grow better just like a woman.” [Notable themes on the runway were represented by Max Azria (“a city-inspired undercurrent with a feminine ease”) and Dianne von Furstenberg (a collection of “matchy/clashy prints”). This year there was a general trend towards more urban, jet-setter style in the collections.

Marc by Marc Jacobs and Missoni both included the “emerging must-have” that is the pajama suit in their collections. This colorful, loose pant was represented in more subdued tones in numerous other collections, and retained its characteristic exaggerated length in all. Petite girls everywhere, ready your platforms!

On the other side of the pant spectrum, above-the-ankle, straight-leg cigarette pants were also popular with the likes of Helmut Lang, Monique Lhuillier and Elie Tahari featuring them in their collections. I’d like one in every color, please.

Of course, to my delight, leather separates were also popular with quite a few designers this year, including Derek Lam, Thakoon and Jason Wu, who featured leather skirts, shorts, and pants. Calvin Klein and others were also fans of thin leather belts, sending a clear message: when in doubt – belt it!

Perhaps to balance this blast of color and print (and leather, oh my!), the resort collections were significantly more buttoned up this year – and I mean that literally. The runway was up to its proverbial neck in collared shirts and high necklines this season.
<div

While Chanel Iman, in her stunning Zac Posen dress, was a show stopping attendee, Shalom Harlow looked rather homeless and out of place in her crumpled, Gareth Pugh-ish garbage bag. Brooke Shields looked like a mermaid body builder. Agyness Deyn was an over-bronzed transvestite. Brooklyn Decker rocked out a Mary-Kate worthy outfit. All in all, the model fashion was skewed across the board. Tsk tsk…I expected big things from such fashion relatives.

GALLERY: <a

I personally favor the ones that are loose, as they are very flattering to the figure. I love the “long and lean” look, as most accentuate the legs making them appear long whether you have long legs or not. The more “tailored” looks from Ralph Lauren and Yves St. Laurent are perfect to go from day to night with a change of shoes and accessories. In my book they are a definite “fashion do”. Here are just a few of my favorites.

<img

This event will be filled with a who’s who of fashionable types and celebs so it’s only appropriate that we crash it. Nothing says true Warhol more than rebellion (or is that commercialism). In a day when so much of Warhol’s work has been bastardized it’s refershing that there is still appreciation for his art, unaltered and not attatched to a national campaign for the GAP. You probably won’t get in, but if you’re the hotness you never know.
<p
