Ogilvy & Mather and Cool Hunting created 30 short videos, each 20 to 90 seconds long, profiling members of the Gap 1969 denim studio in Los Angeles, as well as going behind the scenes of the design and manufacturing process.

“Increasingly, people want to know the stories behind the products — who’s designing it, where it comes from,” said Seth Farbman, Gap’s global chief marketing officer. “We recognize that we have to be more open. We had not done enough storytelling about what was new and different at the Gap.”

The videos debut this week at Cool Hunting and Refinery29 followed by sponsored content next week on DailyCandy, FabSugar, Hulu, Pandora and Gap’s Facebook page among other sites.

The print ads will star “real-ish” [read: a half-inch short of model] people in Gap 1969 pants and will run in the September issues of seemingly every mag including Vogue, Elle, Glamour, Nylon, Details, GQ, Rolling Stone, Marie Claire and ESPN. [WWD]

“I’ve been a huge fan of The Roots for years,” says Varvatos, “They are one of the most innovative musical forces on the planet.”

True story. Also, Black Thought, most underrated MC. There, I said it.

Danny Clinch shot The Roots at Republic Airport in New York right as they were getting off the plane — an homage to how rock stars traveled in the 70s. Creative director Stephen Niedzwiecki explains:

“The way The Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and The Beatles traveled had a huge impact on the direction for this season’s campaign…Led Zeppelin’s plane had fireplaces built in. So that’s what inspired us to shoot them in that way.”

And that’s why Led Zeppelin is fucking awesome. Anyhoo, in addition to the airport scenario there are other “image-based” shots that will debut in the September issues of GQ, Esquire, Vanity Fair, Details and other fash mags.

And as a special treat, The Roots threw together a little impromptu number on the tarmac:

Other newsstand winners included GQ‘s triptych August cover featuring funnymen Tracy Morgan, Paul Rudd and Zach Galifinakis; Esquire‘s March cover with Leonardo Dicaprio boozing it up proved a hit  as did their September issue with possibly gay James Franco; and Details‘s March issue with Twilight‘s dreamy vamp Robert Pattinson sunk its teeth into the market.

Readers, however, avoided Pattinson’s co-star Taylor Lautner‘s July GQ cover, proving that tweenage girls aren’t very gentlemanly; not very many people were mad about Mad Men‘s Jon Hamm‘s Details cover in October; and Javier Bardem‘s cigarette was the only thing smoking about his February cover of Esquire.

Men’s Journal deigned to put  Mel Gibson on their cover and paid the price since very few people were willing to pay for it. Next time, Men’s Journal, strip down that raging anti-Semite and give him a smoky eye, maybe then he’ll sell a few more copies.

The MANGO Fall 2010 lookbook is out and as far as I’m concerned, it’s practically perfect. It has all the elements that I loved on the Chloé runway, like drainpipe trousers, high waisted everything, and beautiful shades of camel. At the moment, I’m not particularly interested in discussing the fast fashion’s validity… I can only say that being able to afford dreamy pieces makes me very happy.  Bonus points for JC Penney adding MNG by MANGO boutiques to select stores next week- featuring new collections every 2 weeks! Again, I really just can’t get into the details of fast fashion right now – I just want to enjoy for a little bit.

Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens made an appearance at an event for Details magazine to celebrate the September issue. Vanessa was all decked out in Helmut Lang, showing off a number from the summer 2010 collection.

Help for pavement-pounding feet from a local source comes in the form of Sidewalk Shoe Survival Balm, new out this summer from a San Francisco runner in search of a product to protect and soothe her feet in heels.

Packaged in sleek gray plastic in a shape much like a mini deoderant dispenser that can easily slip into an evening bag, the fragrant lavender balm ($18) is the brainchild of Jody Llewellyn, who developed the foot-helper when an attempt to run the New York City Marathon after an evening on the town in heels left her feet less than race-ready.

After testing the balm out in recent weeks, we’re pleased with the results. It reduces the friction and rubbing bare feet often face in unforgiving heels and flats, and it also has a refreshing herbal scent that reminded us of being at the spa. The fact that it’s paraben-free and made from natural ingredients such as jojoba oil and dandelion extract only drew us in more.

Will it suddenly make those six-inch heels feel like slippers after a seven-hour standing session? Uh, no. But is it one more tool in your arsenal when you’re dying to wear shoes with a sub-par comfort track record? Yes.

One of the stars who is now gaining mainstream acceptance in Hollywood is critically acclaimed British actor Tom Hardy, now seen as The Forger in the blockbuster “Inception.” Riding the wave, Men’s Health magazine is running an interview and a stunning photospread with the actor in its latest issue – and it’s a must-read by all counts.
Though his fans must certainly know a lot about Tom, larger audiences may not, which is precisely why all those who liked him in Nolan’s film should not miss out on this interview. In it, Hardy talks about anything and everything, from his life as a young man having just found fame and money, to why he believes hard work counts more than talent in his line of work, and his son.

“There comes a point when the world will stop rewarding potential and talent, natural gifts,” Hardy says when the question of his potential comes up. “There’s only so long that people will put up with the potential of working with someone who could be brilliant… To be told ‘Tom could do it’ was enough.” There comes a point where if you want to participate at a certain level in anything, you cannot just turn up and be respected. We all want to be recognized by people that we recognize. And a lot of the people who I think are brilliant – and who I want to be more like – work their expletive-ing expletiveoff, constantly… Over time, technique wins over natural ability. People who work hard, with constant application, determination and tenacity – although they may not be as interesting, or have as much flair – will win,” the actor says.

He also goes into the details of his past struggles with substance abuse – he was addicted to crack cocaine and alcohol, but has been sober since 2003. Life was very much a rollercoaster for him back then so, to this day, he continues to be amazed by how he didn’t contract some disease or, even worse, ended up dead after a night – or more – of heavy partying. The way in which he’d plunge into this lifestyle is partly due to his fear of failure, he tries to rationalize. Be that as it may, the reason why he’s no longer living like this is to be found in a little boy being born: his son.

“Louis arriving was an absolute godsend. Children need things. Not want things. Want and need are two different things I have always mixed up. When Louis came along he was like, ‘You can’t think about you! I’m here!’ It separated a lot of my selfish behavior,” the actor explains. Bryna was also kind enough to share her experiences with me and allowed me to interview her. Here is a recap of our brief conversation.

Before you start reading let me know who is your favorite Handbag Designer?

1. What made you decide to design handbags?

I was working as a stylist at a local boutique and had clients who were dying for a less brand-oriented luxury handbag and there were none out there at the time, so I decided to go to fashion school to learn the business.

Why handbags and not clothes?

Sizing is intimidating for someone who didn’t even know how to sew! Handbags were also where I saw an opening in the market.

2. What is your inspiration?

I’m inspired by all sorts of things. What my friends and what I need in a bag really comes to mind when sitting down to create a new shape. Functionality and style is always the most important.

3. How would you describe your brand? And what is different about your brand?

Vintage-inspired luxury with modern details. I try to use really unique leathers and textures throughout the collection and there is a very special attention paid to the smallest details like zipper pulls, lining fabric, and stitch size.

4. Who is your favorite handbag designer and why?

Miu Miu’s bags are always amazing. They use the best textures and combine things in ways that others would never dream of. They maintain the highest standard of luxury while still making a young, fun and functional bag.

5. What do you love about your job and what you don’t like so much?

I love that I am my own boss. I could say this is one of the challenges as well. I don’t have to answer to anyone but myself and a lot of times that is the hardest things to do! It takes a lot of self-motivation but luckily I love what I do and when I see a woman walking down the street with one of my bags, it’s the biggest reward.

6. Describe an average day of a handbag designer?

Oh jeez. It can be completely different every day! I work out of my home, so the first couple hours are usually answering emails and tending to any urgent things that have popped up since I went to sleep the night before. I usually have a couple designs in the works so some time is spent working on finalizing the detail sketches. Lots of counting: inventory, orders, prices, hardware quantities. Always making sure I have enough pieces for the upcoming production. Sometimes I have a meeting with a boutique or a trunk show or shopping event. A lot of times I’m travelling to NY, LA or Vegas – and most days I try to save an hour to take my puppy to the park .

7. Lamb or cow leather?

Mostly cow because the skins are much larger and easier to work with, but lamb is sooo soft…

8. Plans for the future? What’s’ next? Any plans to design other things?

Future plans include more accessories: belts, jewelry etc…and hopefully down the line we will get into shoes!

Luckily for me, there are clip-on bangs! I had previously seen them for a surprisingly expensive $50 or more, but Ken Paves has some in his hairdo collection that are only $24! So I decided I would try them out. For those who can’t remember, this is what I usually look like:
But, with the magic of hairdo, I got to immediately look like this:
It’s a miracle!! The bangs have little clips to hold them in place, and even have long sides to help blend them seamlessly into your hair.You can even pull your hair back without it be too obvious:There are some negatives though. The top isn’t very easily to blend into your hair. If you’re short like me, some people may see this:
There are nine different color but if you have highlights like me, it’s even more difficult to blend. I’m wearing Midnight Brown in case you were curious! The bangs are also a touch shiny, I ended up using some brown Shampowder to dull it down a bit.

But really most people would never notice these small details, so if you want to switch up your look for fun I HIGHLY recommend! These are synthetic, he does have human hair bangs as well, but they’re currently a pricey $192 (on sale!). I need to find a wigmaker to turn some of my old hair into custom bangs, that would be awesome!

1. Clothing is maybe the single greatest form of self-expression. Whether you’re fashion-impaired or fashion-inspired, I urge everyone to take a few extra minutes every day to contemplate the message you’re sending to the world.

2. If you wear a fragrance, make sure it doesn’t arrive before you do and linger when you’re gone.

3. Few people get dressed up today. Mix dressy with casual or rugged with refined. And one item should be more tailored. For example, if you’re wearing a T-shirt, wear cleaner jeans. Wear a blazer with the jeans or a casual top with slacks.

4. Beyond any other accessory, shoes will have a very significant impact on how you look—they make the whole outfit come together. There’s that old adage that before you judge somebody you should walk a mile in their shoes. Then if you don’t like them, you’re a mile away and you have their shoes. What you wear below the ankles is critical.

5. Establish a uniform, then layer in something new to make it fresh each day. I always have my white shirt, my jeans, and my boots. Then I mix up the rest. Some days I wear a graphic tee with a white shirt and a vest. The next, I might wear a white shirt, a V-neck sweater, and a pin-striped blazer. But the must-haves for every wardrobe are a white shirt and a comfortable blazer.

6. When all else fails, wear black.

7. Vests are the accessory of the season. They look great as an element of sportswear or with a suit—as long as they’re not matching. It’s about breaking up the suit and then wearing the pieces as separates. The jacket, with or without the vest, can be worn with jeans. The pants can be worn with sneakers, T-shirts, and hooded sweaters.

8. Patterns, like stripes, need to be very subtle. The message overall should be that you’re not wearing a matched wardrobe (or on parole). Contemplate wearing a jacket that doesn’t match your pants and a shirt that matches neither. Your belt and shoes don’t have to match either, but there needs to be a sense that everything works together.

9. You’ve done a good job if people see you and say, “You look great,” as opposed to “Where did you buy your shoes, and how much did you pay for the jacket?” Your clothing choices should help present you.

10. No matter how long it takes you to get dressed, it shouldn’t look like it took more than 10 minutes.
