D&G Launches Scents Based On Tarot Cards

Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have launched 5 fragrances for their D&G line, targeted not at specific demographic, but a personality and based off of properties found in tarot cards.
For instance, of the more masculine scents, L’Amoureux, No. 6 (the lover’s card) has peppery top notes and a hearty wood finish, while Le Bateleur, No. 1 (the magician’s card) starts clean and citrusy before developing into a warmer, more heady blend.
The colognes launch exclusively at Nordstrom next week. $65 each, at Nordstrom.

TRENDSPARK: Printed Denim

YSL started it off in F/W, and D&G followed with S/S ‘09-10, but I’m really not a fan of this printed/painted denim. What do you think?

I personally really 1) don’t get this and 2) think it’s mildly disturbing

D&G Shoes Fall 2009

This is Dolce & Gabbana? I’m with Obsessed With Shoes in the disbelief boat.
Their Fall 2009 shoe collection brings us chunky suede wedges, gold wedges with black ruffles, and just weirdness. There’s nothing cohesive about the collection except the gross shade of pink. The shoes don’t even have an ugly-cool vibe, or any real sculptural interest. Five bucks says Chloe Sevigny gets her toes in a pair soon and render them awesome? Please?

ADDICT: D&G S/S 2009

Mario Testino shot these S/S 2009 ads for Dolce & Gabbana.
Lots of red, white and blue, lots of shades.

AD-DICT: Scarlett Johansson for D&G Cosmetics Shot by Sølve Sundsbø

Scarlett Johansson is the perfect canvas for this shade of D&G lipstick. The bombshell looks amazing as a Monroe-esque pin-up girl with her fair skin and white-blond hair. Red lipstick AND fingernails have always been a little much for me, but this ad makes me want to give the look a second chance.

Ad-dict: D&G S/S 09 Ad Campaign Shot by Mario Testino, Preview

I’m loving what I see in the new D&G S/S 09 ad campaign preview. Famed photographer Mario Testino makes me want to buy these outfits and jet off to the Italian Riviera, or wherever these models are hanging out. Who’s up for a super luxurious spring break?
Thanks to Fashion Copious for the photo.
Ad-Dict: D&G Sunglasses

This ad from the D&G spring 09 campaign looks a little too clean and perfect. But I think it kinda works. The stark contrast of the heavy metal jewelry and black fabrics against Mariacarla Boscono’s bloodless skin tone evokes an eerie feeling. The sunglasses look Photoshopped on her face, however, which makes the aesthetic a little awkward. I’m curious to see what photographer Steven Klein did with the other photos for this campaign.

D&G: Slipping Under the Influence

This D&G spread in the January 09 issue of Dazed & Confused has me saying “I’ve seen better.” When I think of D&G’s models, I think of women, not girls. This underfed gal they chose for the spread does nothing to highlight the Italian brand’s aesthetic or sex appeal, but it might sell a few more lines of coke. And the photos are below average in artistic value compared to what I usually see in Dazed & Confused; the only one I really like is the last, with the hair and skirt blowing upward. Maybe the two just don’t work well together, but I hope to see things back up to par for both D&G and the magazine in the coming year.?
Thanks for the photos Fashion Copious!
Moments of Style: Jenny From The Block
Y’know what’s so sad? Everybody is so worried about, “Oh My GAHD! Where is Jennifer’s wedding ring?” I thought it is was more important to notice how beautiful and radiant she looked after squeezing two screaming larva out of her birthing shoot. She should look like Jabba The Hut on disability. It’s obviously a Hanukkah miracle sent by sweet baby Jesus. I mean even the poster of Brad Pitt in the back istryin to check out that fine Puerto Rican fatback. I personally was completely and totally taken with her fabulous breastical balls. I thought it was Christmas already and Santa was paying me back for being a deadbeat when he didn’t bring me those D&G leopard print jeans that I wanted back in 97′. I’m still a little bitter about that………….Santa don’t let me catch you in the street!
The Bashed- Bad Plaid
I was retrieving my homework from the printer today and almost had a stroke upon turning around. Someone was wearing these crazy plaid shorts that made no visual sense. I went back to my desk and studied them very closely for a few minutes. I realized that not only were they a vulgar color of plaid, but they had leaves and vines faintly intertwined throughout. This motif gives the illusion that a gnome barfed all over the fabric before a seamstress proceeded to add pockets and a zip fly. I am a crusader for plaid anything, so allow me to make a few suggestions. Everyone knows I am obsessed with the D&G fall ‘08 collection, so any piece from the line will suffice. Also, Topshop has some fantastic and reasonably priced items like this blue dress. Plaid doesn’t have to be scary; just keep it away from the lawn ornaments.
TrendSpark: Guns
Guns have been making more and more appearences in the fashion scene as of late. The first big sighting was the Chanel shoes with the gun shaped heel, and now Dolce and Gabana is featuring a pistol on the center of a sweater in their runway show. Rogue Status has developed a streetwear empire based on their military influenced print. And who could forget the designer gun show from earlier in the year. However just because you have guns on your clothes doesn’t guarentee success. Take for example Perez Hilton who holds the record for most embarassing clothing release of all time.
Prada’s In, Philip Lim’s Out, Amy Odell is Hot!!!
Loved this piece by New York Magazine blogger Amy Odell. She took the seasons “hottest” mandals to the street and asked folks if they’d wear them. Philip Lims monstrosities for Birkenstock were the most critically panned, D&G’s $500 white, shiny slip ons we’re also hated. The winning sandals we’re by Prada and Burberry. My personal fave is Amy Odell, was totally picturing someone else when ever I read her articles. Thank god for video.
