This is a call to arms, to remove them from the narrow shafts of coat sleeves. Let them live with the rest of the body underneath a cape or a drape. The shape is free and flowing, the cuts are crafty and they’ve got a wrappable capacity that keeps you roasty toasty. As they say, keep the chest warm, the arms will take care of themselves.

That fall chill is in the air once again, and we’re glad to take our leather jackets and trench coats out of the closet. As the nights begin to get colder with each passing week, it’s almost time to break out our fall coats. Though we’re not quite ready for the heavier outerwear to come out in full force, these 25 fantastic coats just might change our minds.

It’s a case of she said/she said in the ongoing war over fashion week dates. Mario Boselli of the Camera Nazionale de la Moda claims the “Second Thursday” rule — fashion weeks would start on the second Thursday of February and September — was not a permanent solution and provided paperwork to back up his claim while CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg issued an open letter calling for solidarity and an end to the strife.

There’s a definite consensus around the FashionIndie office regarding this season at the tents: lackluster. Gone was the excitement and the thrill of the new and in its stead stood a circus comprised of the old guard impatiently appraising the crop of would-be streetstyle stars and the army of bloggers hanging about as they waded through the muck of the nameless and the irrelevant to find a collection onto which to pin their ever-dwindling hopes . Still, there were a few shows that set the five barely-beating hearts of FashionIndie racing and had our backs aching to be clothed in their bright and bold designs.
