Grazia Dailly reports that in an interview with Gabbana in The Times, fashion editor Laura Craik brought up Madonna’s new lifestyle brand — and it did not go over well:

Asked about Madonna (the day before we meet, WWD announces that she is to launch a new clothing collection), Gabbana becomes unusually un-chatty. What does he think of the news?

“Good.”

She’ll be ringing you up for a bit of advice soon.

“No”

Oh, OK then. Why not?

“No, she knows many things. She has a style. There are a lot of pop stars making fashion collections – Kylie and J.Lo, Puff Daddy and Kanye West.” He pauses for a beat. “Maybe next season, we should sing a song.”

What could have caused this apparent rift? After all, it’s not like Madonna’s line is going to be in direct competition with Dolce and Gabbana. And even if it was, I think we all know who’d win. No, there’s something else happening here…mayhaps it’s time for the Hardy Gays to investigate.

I don’t want to say that I was happy when I heard the news of  the J.Lo-Marc Anthony split…though a smile might have crept across my lips for a brief second. Call me crazy, but Anthony, my least favorite J.L0 partnering (I’m still holding out hopes for a Jennifer Lopez-Puff Daddy-Diddy-Diddy Dirty Money-Sean Combs reconciliation) was just holding the diva back. This latest development, however, will no doubt further fuel her recent comeback because nothing engenders sympathy — and publicity — like a high-profile divorce.

Kohl’s on the other hand, isn’t taking  it so well.

“The Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony brands have always been positioned as two separate, distinctive collections that offer high-quality contemporary style for men and women,” half-heartedly claims  a spokeswoman for Kohl’s, “and we look forward to a successful September launch.”

Rick Darling, the president of the licensing company behind the Lopez-Anthony line, also insists on the separate but equal plan:

“We have two separate agreements with Jennifer and Marc and always intended to have separate lines. [Their split] doesn’t impact the agreements in any way.”

Poor kids. Now Kohl’s will have to spend separate holidays and weekends with J.Lo and Marc…and inevitably they’ll have to choose between the two of them. And who do you think they’re going to side with? The poor straight man’s Ricky Martin or the rich gay man’s Eva Mendes? [WWD]

They completely revolutionized music by proving they were just as good as male MCs and could look damn good doing it. Andre 3000 has 2 distinct styles: urban dandy & funk soul brother. He always look amazing regardless whatever he decides on. With a mix of his fashion sense and interesting flow he’s created some visually exciting videos.

3. Missy Elliot

Missy is all about a stunt and a show. Let’s be honest, that blowup jumpsuit was brilliant.

4. MC Hammer

I personally blame this man for the question that plagues me every day: Should I buy harem pants?

5. Nicki Minaj

Ms. Minaj is a modern day hip hop Barbie. She’s completely fearless when it comes to her appearance. (I can personally attest to that) She might be one of the only rappers who can wear a Dior haute couture dress and make it look bad ass and uber sexy.

6. Sean Combs (Diddy, P.Diddy, Puff Daddy)

Now whatever name he goes by the man still has unlimited swag. My favorite incarnation of this mogul was in his 90′s Puff Daddy phase when he was dancing around in shiny suits. (My mother refused to buy me one)

7. Run DMC

If anyone could make white Adidas and gold rope chains chic it would be these guys. Not only are they hip hop legends but  they will always be considered fashion icons.

8. Kanye West

It would be blasphemy if I didn’t include Kanye in this post. (Wouldn’t want him pulling another VMA style incident) Kanye went from super preppy, to super dandy, and now mega fashionisto. Whether he’s wearing designer sneakers or womens blouses you will notice him.

9. Cee Lo Green

If you don’t like Cee Lo’s style then he will probably give a big ” Eff You.” His costumes are truly wild. How many guys do you know can dress up like a bird from the muppets and still look cool?

10. The Fresh Prince (Will Smith)

Modern pop culture might tell you that Jaden & Willow Smith are coolest kids in town. This is true but people must remember that being cool is in their DNA. Before Will Smith was their daddy he was rocking the mic with is dope Philly style.

This Zuhair Murad Spring 2010 gown looked stunning on Kim at the 38th Annual FiFi Awards even though I wish her hair wasn’t pulled back so tightly.

The heavy fabric of this Rachel Roy Fall 2010 gown, worn to promote her own Bissmor Watch Collection is L.A., makes Kim look bigger than she is.

This white Roland Mouret Spring 2011 dress Kim wore on Jimmy Kimmel Live is super sophisticated, and I like the trashy shoes she decided to pair with it.

Kim further accentuates her tiny waist and awesome curves with a bold shoulder from the Alexander McQueen Resort 2011 collection at Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom’s Fragrance Launch.

The exhibit opens today June 7th at famed British jeweler Stephen Webster in Beverly Hills.  Proceeds from “In Case of Fashion Emergency Break Glass,” in addition to 10% of jewelry sales for the month of June, will be donated to the Prince’s Trust.

The Prince’s Trust is a cause especially close to Thomas’s heart. Having left his native Glouchester where he was studying as a plumber’s apprentice, Thomas found himself in London at age nineteen with only 30 pounds to his name. There he became immersed in the nightlife scene in hopes of meeting his idol, Boy George. He soon realized, however, he couldn’t get by with just being fabulous; he actually had to do something. The life of a fashion editor appealed to him so at 22 he applied for a grant from the Prince’s Trust.

With the money he won, David put together a portfolio and wrote over 100 stylists, hoping to work for free as an assistant. He supported himself with a job handing out roses and perfume in a bathroom of a club at night and washing dishes at a café on the weekends. He was eventually hired by Isabella Blow and Judy Blaine; the latter, as fate would have it, was Boy George’s stylist. After scoring a lucky break styling Lisa Stansfield‘s video for “All Around the World,” Thomas took over working with Boy George from Blaine, who had become too busy with another client, Neneh Cherry.

By 24, David Thomas had become the fashion editor at Esquire, the youngest editor in the world at that time. He befriended Hamish Bowles, who was working at Harper’s & Queen in the office next door. Bowles took Thomas under his refined wing and taught him the ins and outs of proper decorum. Thomas also met a young Philip Treacy from whom he commissioned a hat for Boy George, thus helping launch his impressive career as a milliner.

David Thomas plans to document his 23-plus years in fashion with a book he’s currently working on, but for “In Case of Fashion Emergency,” he didn’t want to delve too deep into the past. Rather, he wanted to focus on the last six months to make the exhibit more relevant. He will be featuring looks he styled for Britney Spears, Chris Brown, Matthew McConaughey, Avril Lavigne, Chris Hemsworth, John Legend and of course Puff Daddy, by whom the exhibit’s name is more or less inspired.

While having dinner one Saturday night, Puff called him, desperately in need of an outfit for dinner with Jay Z — an age-old dilemma. David rushed home, but impeded by traffic, got there an hour later, at which point Puff had already solved the problem. He later joked with friends that he should always have a back-up outfit, encased in a glass box like a fire extinguisher, and  in case of fashion emergencies, he would simply break the glass.

If you’re in Beverly Hills tonight or at all during the month of June — the length of the exhibit —  make sure to drop by Stephen Webster so you too can be prepared for your own fashion emergencies. Although, I doubt Puff Daddy will be calling you anytime soon, as David Thomas would tell you, it’s best to be prepared.

1. The Tux

You tuxedo will say everything about you  this year at prom. For this reason alone it is super important that you pick the right one according to your style. If you’re the type of guy who wants to go for the traditional black suit: fine, but if you really want to make a statement then try something different. Play around without different colors such as charcoal, try a dinner jacket, or even go for a totally unexpected colored suit all together. Also in the fashion world for men tailoring is super important and that means finding a tux that actually fits. That means nothing too baggy. Leave that for your sweatpants because remember no matter what you think it is still a formal event.

2. Necessary Accessories

Along with the tux there are a few other things that are completely necessary in your prom night. They include some type of neck tie,  a cummerbund or vest, shoes, and hopefully a watch. Many times guys are guilted into wearing colors that directly match thier date. The problem with this is that what’s good for the gander is not always good for the goose. I’ve witnessed many guys wearing colors that didn’t flatter them at all but wore it for the sake of matching, This isn’t the stone age anymore and men are allowed to have a say in fashion. Instead of matching colors why not try wearing complimenting colors and if your date insists on matching for for a shade that better suits the individual.  Let your shoes and watch dictate your own personal style but make sure they fit your outfit.

3. That Extra Touch

If this will be your senior prom then it is the perfect night to let your style inhibitions go wild. It’s your last night to party with the rest of your seniors and you should make the most of your night. Make your outfit scream your name. Add splashes of color, throw on and layer accessories, wear a pair of converses; do anything that will make you feel like yourself,without getting you kicked out that is

-He’s accepted being branded as the stateside equivalent of the shitshow in Egypt.

-He succinctly described how nearly everyone feels about Nancy Grace.

-And, for his very first entry into the Twitterverse, he advocates his love of…chocolate milk and/or Naked Juice. Both of which, one must assume, contain healthy servings of tiger blood and Adonis DNA.

Twitter has, overnight, become one of my primary sources of entertainment. And that saddens me. But Charlie Sheen fills me with joy and hope, if only because he’s someone with more money than he knows what to do with and just doesn’t give a fuck about anything.

Which is basically the American dream.

Casey Affleck, brother to Mr. Ben, has been following Phoenix around for the past year in the hopes of compiling his footage into a documentary.  Mission accomplished.  The movie is set for a September release by Magnolia Pictures.

Does this have anything to do with fashion?  Not really.  But any movie where there’s a rumored scene of Joaquin Phoenix getting his chest pooped on is pretty newsworthy, fashion or not.  And Diddy has Sean John, so there’s that.  Look for a trailer soon.

Terry Richardson takes a break from shooting against a big white wall for once to do a couple shots with Diddy for his latest collaboration with Supreme. The video is short but cool, and I’m sure we’ll all be seeing the images soon.

Diddy’s fragrance, I Am King, hit shelves in 2008. But the recent success of the fragrance on HSN, where it got sold out, had Diddy searching for some more of the fortune. I Am King Of The Night is a limited edition fragrance for men, which follows-up to the popular scent.

So in case you haven’t noticed, I’ve been exposing my musical pleasures of late on the site in hopes that you would not only pick up on some new music, but get to know what I’m all about a bit more. Well one band that I have been following since my freshman year in high school (that’s right 8 years) is Paramore, and while I’ve been taking a ton of heat for it from everyone at the office lately, I will back them 100% always (doesn’t help that I think lead singer Hayley Williams is absolutely gorgeous).

Moving on to the real point of this story. The red headed lead singer recently sat down with Spin Magazine to talk about the bands latest album Brand New Eyes, how the band almost split up, and whether she dreams about other rock stars or not. The interview is actually pretty funny she talks about how she was more excited to see Paulie Shore than Diddy.

Funny thing is, I was just having a conversation about this issue with one of my girls nearly a week or two ago…Yes, the whole color complex thing is still alive and very real. Right up there with the good hair debate…Tyra has been known to address the light vs. dark issue on her show…

I, for one, am medium brown, but not light-skinned (especially not in the summertime). She on the other hand is of Puerto Rican/Cuban descent, so she could just as easily pass as a light-skinned or mixed chica…She’s also very pretty, but…

Remember all that hoopla about L’Oreal whitewashing Bey’s print ad?…And consider the successful black female entertainers in the game now, I’d say Na Na Campbell, Iman and Ciara are literally the few standouts that come to mind in terms of brown skin beauty…

On the larger stage, however, lighter girls still appear to dominate…Bey, Halle, Alicia, Rih Rih, you get what I’m sayin’…

FYI: Ciroc Vodka has since put out a statement aka disclaimer vilifying Puffy’s, now infamous, casting call announcement.

On another note, as smart and entertaining as he is…Puffy scares the ish outta me…People always seem to leave him differently…i.e., LOON…and SLIM from 112 ain’t so slim anymore (LOL)…And we all know about MASE, SHYNE and BIGGIE…need I go on?

Seriously dude, I’m more scared of the fact that you think it’s right to subject your minions to such an over remixed pop reference. You couldn’t do a Cloverfield-stye video and have Sarah Palin step in for the monster terrorizing New York. Or at least a Saw-reference as that’s the only “scary” movie that has had some staying power.

Normally when everyone sits comfortably in their seats during fashion week they expect new fresh designs from a variety of designers; however, there’s been a glitch in the trend. When it comes to the issue of presenting his Sean John collection during spring fashion week, Diddy’s saying hell no! In fact, the only presentation Diddy has planned is an editors’ convention occurring this month. It’s certainly quite a shift from last years Sean John presentation during fashion week. Oh well, I guess we’ll just have to celebrate without Mr. Combs.

“Nelly has the attitude, the swagger, and most of all the physique that our customers can both aspire and relate to … And let’s be honest, all of the ladies out there are going to be thanking us for this campaign,” says a spokesperson for Sean John.

Daniel and I were discussing this venture over the weekend and come up with the conclusion that these ads are not that exciting. I thought Sean John was trying to revolutionize men’s clothing by moving completely away from any “ghetto” stereotypes.
