“It’s an incredible achievement and means that people are paying close attention to the brand [Dior] when it speaks,” said Alex Mendoza of Stylophane, a company that monitors crap figures like this. “They have an incredible brand and they are saying things that are bringing people back.”

Dior’s 12 posts during the month of January racked up around 13,000 likes each. Other luxury brands who are popular with the kids today include Chanel with an average 7,200 likes per post (lpp), social media juggernaut Burberry, which averaged about 6,800 lpp and The Art of Travel by Louis Vuitton, clocking in almost 4,400 lpp.

A bold color like the deep glistening blue, Tuxedo, or matte, Blue Label 997 will keep your dark side prowling.

The deep blue green, Nirvana 704, calls for more of a calm outcry, and the Perfecto is suited for a subtle gray.

Shot by Mikael Jansson, the 28-year-old actress gives another star turn in the spring ad campaign while bearing a striking resemblance to fellow Dior bag lady, Marion Cotillard. While Kunis claims she’s mostly a jeans and T-shirt kinda gal, she loves to feel feminine on the red carpet and with awards season gearing up, we can no doubt expect to see her in some Dior finery. Which is a shame. But let’s just hope she at least goes for the archival finery. [WWD]

“There have been on-and-off conversations about Dior,” the designer admitted. “I don’t know; maybe someday in the future, maybe years from now, I may end up going someplace else, maybe Dior. But right now I am at Vuitton, and all that matters to me is that that’s where I am and I’m going to keep doing my thing.”

Do your thing, girl! Jacobs went on to further explain his decision to stay with Vuitton and his general boredom with haute couture:

“The irony in all of this is that I don’t dream of doing anything else, or I didn’t. My greatest challenge is to do something better than we’ve done the season before. The idea of couture doesn’t hold that thing for me. It’s archaic – in my opinion. I mean, I am really interested in the craftsmanship behind couture. But I can explore all that in ready-to-wear. With couture, one dress each season is photographed by a couple of magazines; there’s no advertising; it reaches 20 customers. I don’t feel there is anything lacking in what we do. I get to work with these amazing craftsmen. Maybe not the same ateliers that would make a couture dress, but, again, we are not in a deficit for working with people who create beautiful things. I am not sure I ever looked at couture as this great opportunity.”

Jacobs, obviously doesn’t skimp on the candor in his Vogue  interview. Among the Dior revelations, Jacobs talks about his family — he hasn’t spoken to his mother, sister or younger brother in 20 years — and the illness that inspired him to go from slob to stud — ulcerative colitis — but it’s this little tidbit about his former drug use that really brings this story into a glorious landing: “Jacobs has been honest about his drug-use and addiction issues over the years. He says Naomi Campbell ’really helped me get sober.’”

You know you’re going down a dark road when Naomi Campbell is the light on the other end. [Vogue]

Pulled this way and that for a photoshoot by her overbearing manager, a gossipy makeup artist, a lascivious photographer and a fabulously turbaned stylist, Margaux finally loses her composure and throws both caution and a Dior handbag  to the wind. Best line, courtesy of that queen cosmetician:

“You know what this reminds me of, Demy? Remember? The Academy Awards! Oh my gosh, Margaux, you won’t believe this. I went in to put the eyeliner on Ms. You-Know-Who. Her glass eye pops out onto the makeup table. I’m totally serious. Rolls around in the dust, she picks it up, wets it in her mouth, pops it back in. Goes on to win the award. Doesn’t even hold a candle to You-Know-Who at the Emmys.”

Simons has been with Jil Sander since 2005 and his contract was recently extended for an unknown duration, meaning Dior will most likely have to buy him out of it. Should that prove easily said and done, Simons still won’t be able to produce a ready-to-wear collection by March, let alone a couture collection by January; therefore Bill Gaytten and the Dior atelier would continue to handle design duties in the mean time.

There might be an even bigger hurdle on the horizon, however, as Yves Saint Laurent reportedly has their eye on Simons as well. Stefano Pilati, if rumors are to be believed, is always on the verge of being fired and his contract expires in March. YSL hasn’t indicated whether they will extend Pilati’s deal or not, but considering that his role is a constant source of speculation, it’s hard to put much weight behind this.

Meanwhile, there’s no time frame for Simons’ appointment, and Dior — of course — has neither confirmed or denied these reports. But of all the names bandied about since John Galliano‘s dismissal earlier this year, Raf Simons is one of the strongest and most viable, don’t you think? [WWD]

In a plot that sounds like the long-discarded gay Ocean’s 11 sequel, Ocean’s 69, a gang of five masked robbers “neutralized” a security guard and four employees at the Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airport terminal on Friday, before making out with 10 pallets of Louis Vuitton goods.

Authorities are currently looking into the matter, but they had better look quick. The rule of 3s dictates that another crime will take place and the smart money is on Dior, as everything Marc Jacobs seems to touch — whether he wants to or not — goes missing. Meanwhile, this sounds like the long-discarded Woody Allen gay dramedy, High Fashion Crimes and Miss-Dior-meanors. [WWD]

Given to French businesses with highly specialized knowledge, the honor was bestowed on the 15 workers of the atelier, each with over a decade of experience in couture techniques. As for Galliano himself, he’s no doubt happy for his atelier and not at all bitter.

The caveat that broke the camel’s back was Jacobs’ insistence on taking his Louis Vuitton team with him to Dior, leaving Vuitton — LVMH’s cash cow — without a heel to stand on. To make matters worse, Arnault had wanted Céline‘s Phoebe Philo to replace Marc at Vuitton should he move to Dior, but Philo is happy where she is — outfitting Kanye West in billowy blouses.

So with Jacobs more or less off the table, LVMH has reportedly approached Alexander Wang, Jason Wu and Jil Sander‘s Raf Simons; though out of the three Simons would seem the most likely choice, that is unless Dior plans on eschewing breathtaking gowns and impeccably-crafted ladysuits for sweatpants and cocktail dresses.

Then there is Givenchy‘s Riccardo Tisci, whose name has been bandied about since Gallianogate got into full swing. But he — along with Lanvin‘s Alber Elbaz, Alexander McQueen‘s Sarah Burton and Balenciaga‘s Nicolas Ghesquière – has turned down the Dior deal, citing brand loyalty.

So the question still remains — and frankly, the question is getting really tiresome — who will take the reins at Christian Dior? However, by the time someone is announced, the question might be, who the hell cares? [WWD]

The exhibit was curated by LOVE magazine editrix/Marc’s stylist for both his eponymous line and Vuitton since 2003, Katie Grand, who insists that it is not a retrospective; rather, she “put clothes together as I would for a shoot.” Hence a mixing and matching of looks from different collections helmed by Jacobs since 1998.

These 30 looks are modeled on mannequins, some bearing the iconic Vuitton Speedy bag as heads, while others — painted orange and pink and covered in Louis Vuitton graffiti designed by frequent Jacobs collaborator Stephen Sprouse — are frozen in editorial-ready poses.

The Art of Fashion coincides with the opening of Milan Fashion Week and the brand’s new store in Via Montenapoleone 2. It does not, however, have anything to do with those pesky rumors that Marc is moving to Dior, since, according to Grand, they started working on The Art of Fashion in January.

It’s nice to know Grand and Jacobs took some time out from plotting the downfall of London Fashion Week to put together this lovely exhibit. If you’re in Milan, you can catch Louis Vuitton: The Art of Fashion‘s very limited engagement through October 9th. [WWD]

Adding to the surreal glamour are digital recreations of the late Grace Kelly, Marlene Dietrich and Marilyn Monroe. The three movie legends just happen to be hanging out backstage of the Dior show when Theron storms in, every inch the movie star — giant sunglasses and all — throwing her purse at the first person, place or thing she sees. Then she’s stripped, be-gowned and thrown down the runway to Gossip‘s “Heavy Cross.”

After receiving his BFA at Tufts University in 1988, he moved to NYC permanently where he began work as a photographer. Horyn, in her usual straight-shooter fashion, posits that Galliano’s very public unraveling could have been avoided had Bernard Arnault and Dior chief exectuive Sidney Toledano “sufficiently addressed” his problems:

“Nothing about this affair has ever felt right — not his abusive comments, not his self-destructive behavior, not the way he was dismissed….His personality and showmanship were definitely part of Dior’s success, and maybe there was a fear of meddling with it.”

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, an executive at LVMH told Horyn there had been “casual discussions” about Galliano returning to his eponymous label. Both this and another executive seemed to think that the media and public would accept the return and resurgence of John Galliano.

Horyn thinks, and I certainly agree, that John Galliano deserves a second chance, but what do you think, dear readers? Is it too late to save his once-brilliant career or does time — and rehab — heal all wounds? [NYT]

Galliano told the packed courthouse that he started drinking “in a cyclical way” after the death of his assistant Steven Robinson in 2007:

“Steven protected me from everything so I could just concentrate on being creative. With his death, I found I had no more protection.”

As with his father’s death in 2003, Galliano had no time for mourning — his fashion plate was far too full for that:

“When Steven died, his parents and I buried him, then we went to the crematorium, and then I went back to do my fittings. The same thing happened with my father’s death. I had to go and bury him and then come back that very night and work on the haute couture.”

In addition to designing multiple collections for Dior every season, Galliano was also worried about the fate of his eponymous label:

“I had two children. One was inherited — Dior — and the other was my own, the Galliano company. Dior is a big machine and I didn’t want to lose Galliano. At this point, in order for the house of Galliano to survive, I met with many businessmen and signed many licenses.”

The combination of his addictions and his demanding schedule led to the designer taking a “lethal” mix of alcohol and prescription drugs at the time of the events for which he was on trial. However, he maintained that he had no recollection of uttering racist and anti-Semitic remarks.

When shown the infamous video of him heiling Hitler, Galliano explains: “I see someone who needs help, who’s very vulnerable. It’s the shadow of John Galliano. I see a man who’s been pushed to the edge.”

Both victims of the February 24th incident, Geraldine Bloch and Philippe Virgitti were present to testify in court but Fatiha Oumeddour, the plaintiff from the October 8th incident was not. Though, in a statement read by the judge she says that “when I read the press…I decided to come forward.”

Bloch claimed Galliano used about 30 anti-Semitic remarks in the space of the 30-45 minute altercation at a café near the designer’s home but didn’t leave as “a matter of principle.”

Virgitti, frightened by the media shitstorm that sprang up immediately after the news of Galliano’s arrest and subsequent dismissal from Dior, initially withdrew his complaint. But in order to protect himself from a defamation countersuit by Galliano, refiled it. The witness also revealed that he “looked up” Galliano following the incident and that it was “clear that in his work, he uses all different cultures.”

Galliano cited this work — as well as his own homosexuality – as proof that he embraces diversity of all kinds: ”I have never held these beliefs. All my life I’ve fought against prejudice and intolerance and discrimination because I have been subjected to it myself.”

Aurélien Hamelle, John Galliano’s lawyer, called two witnesses who claimed that while they heard Galliano insulting Bloch, he never made any anti-Semitic remarks. One witness, Marion Bully said:

“I heard absolutely no anti-Semitic comments. When I saw in the media that he had lost his job, I found it so unjustified and thought it was my role to come forward so that justice could be done.”

We’ll all have to wait a few months to see whether justice will be done or not when the court makes its decision on September 8th. While the public prosecutor is asking for a fine of no less than $14,300, Hamelle called for Galliano to be acquitted. [WWD]

The former Christian Dior designer faces a possible six months in jail and a $32,390 fine as per the French penalty for insulting anyone on the basis of their origin, religious affiliation, race or ethnicity.

Note to self: don’t go to France….

Stemming from two separate incidents in which Galliano allegedly uttered anti-Semitic remarks – one from October 8, 2010 and the other from February 24th of this year —  the trial will see testimonies not only from Galliano himself but from his three accusers: Geraldine Bloch, Philippe Virgitti and Fathia Oumeddour.

However, Galliano’s now infamous “I love Hitler” video rant will not be a subject of the trial as the “anonymous” filmmaker never bothered to come forward with a complaint.

The designer is expected to plead substance abuse in his defense as he is still undergoing rehab for alcohol and prescription meds dependency — aren’t we all? — and though it’s not likely to help his case any, he will probably not serve any jail time.

According to French lawyer, Jean-Yves Dupeux:

“In theory, the law provides for a prison sentence but it’s extremely rare. Prison sentences are practically never handed down, except in the case of repeat offenders, in other words when you are dealing with someone who is permanently reiterating insults.”

Galliano’s trial should last four or five hours today but a decision, if any, won’t be made before September; French courts close for summer recess in July and August.

So while the courts are in recess, John Galliano will be awaiting detention. [WWD]

- The next chapter of that sad story will actually begin on June 22nd when Galliano takes the stand. It was previously thought he would miss his first day in court due to rehab, but he’ll be there with his couture bells on. [Vogue UK]

- Meanwhile, BFF Nicola Formichetti is flashing some serious man-skin for Mugler‘s upcoming menswear show in Brothers of Arcadia, a two-part promotional video inspired by the Greek gods. - The latest rumor about former Vogue Paris editrix and current Independent Woman, Carine Roitfeld, is that she is starting her own independently published magazine. [Hint]

This Boutique Critique is about the amazing designer vintage store, 1 Of A Find.  Curator and self-professed shopaholic Honey Moon goes on buying trips all over the world seeking out beautiful, unique, impossible-to-get-your-hands-on Hermes, Chanel, Gucci, Lacroix, and Lanvin to satisfy her international clientele.  She used me as a Barbie doll and transported me into worlds I only dream of.  Best part? Her prices are as unique as her collection, so we definitely recommend scooting over to her Brooklyn location asap.  Check out all our amazing finds after the jump.

This gown was to DIE for.  It caught my eye immediately as a dress made for the 1950′s movies I play out in my head. When Anna Wintour extends me a VIP invitation to the Met Gala, I will surely be sporting something like this on the red carpet.

Oh-la-Lanvin!  This split front evening skirt with matching metallic sandals took my breath away.  I channeled Carrie Bradshaw and paired it with a Levi’s jean jacket and a fun net hat (something so Kate Middleton right now) to mix it up.

The perfect summer maxi — the sheer chiffon made it cool in the heat while making a major fashion statement with its bold prints.  Paired with Dior booties, a Gucci bag, and a summer straw hat, I was loving this luxe warm weather look.

You can’t do Brooklyn vintage without channeling a little inner hipster.  These Dior shoes (with the angelic sweet bows), vintage Levi’s and amazing seuqin blouse kept the look casual but party ready.  A python bag and flat brimmed hat made me look MUCH cooler than I am.

What screams glamour like a metallic jumpsuit?  Nothing.  What screams glamour-queen? Pairing it with these futuristic shades, a geometric statement necklace, and lace up leather booties. Retro chic and ultra fierce.

The Mod Squad would have adopted me in a heartbeat in this Montaldo Op Art dress.  I fell in love with the digital print, it was so eye catching and well, trippy.  Bubbled sleeves and a high neck are hard to pull off without looking like Julie Andrews, but this psychedelic wonderland of a dress with slim cuts made it utterly chic.  I fell in love with the leather wedges and actually scooped them up for myself (sorry shoppers!).

I never thought I could pull off a Blair Waldorf headband until I found this gem of a velvet headband.  So sweet and a little schoolgirl, it matched perfectly with this lace dress from the 60′s. The chunky heeled shoes kept the look 100% vintage, and the hand painted wooden purse kept a touch of fantasy in the mix.

Ladies:

A bold shoulder - Women used to dress in power suits to emphasize their equality to men. Though the scales are still a bit uneven, bring out those shoulder pads to show the boys you’re not only as good, but better.

Ball-buster heels- There’s nothing better than a 5-inch stiletto to kick through that glass ceiling.

A pantsuit - Take a page out of Hilary Clinton‘s playbook and leave the skirts for the sluts in the intern pool.

An executive realness bag – Because you’re not fooling anyone with that Dior knock-off and you don’t need all that bag square-footage for a résumé and some business cards.

Jewelry, but to a minimum – A little zazz here, a little sass there never hurt anyone, but don’t OD on the beads and bobbles. This is an interview not a night out at da club.

Gentlemen:

A tailored suit – Any schlub can put on a suit.  But if you’re trying to run shit, you’ll need to make sure the suit fits the aspirations so take it to a tailor.

A briefcase – You ever seen those guys with suits and backpacks and think, oh, I want him running my company? Didn’t think so.

A pocket square - Aside from being a dashing accessory, that nifty bit of fabric in the breast pocket comes in handy when you don’t want them to see you sweat.

Wingtips – Your career will take off on the wings of your tips. But since it’s summer, pair them with a nude ankle — it’s less stuffy and you’re not a woman of  the 19th century so no one will be scandalized.

A watch - Not only do you need to be on time — or preferably 15 minutes early — for your interview, a nice timepiece instills confidence in everyone around you. “Oh, that guy knows what time it is!” Yes, yes you do.

Look Three: Barefoot Summer Walk

The Stripe Dyed Skirt: Maggie Ward, $300

This maxi looks straight out of the desert. The flowing chiffon will hit the floor when worn at the waist, but I pulled it up to just below the bust to extend the possibilities of layering. It’s even more comfortable than it looks (if you can imagine), which is designer John Ward’s goal with the brand.

The Nude Lace Top: Pas de Calais, $258

Pas de Calais is a region in the north of France known for its exquisite lace. That is why this Japanese company chose to name the company as such. I chose the top for its delicate nature and the ability to see through it to the under layers – an important factor this season.

The Mesh Metal Bra: Diana Broussard $594

With the metal detailing of the bra and the height of the skirt just showing a sliver of skin at the ribs, this is a classy way to see through a shirt. Having worked under the tutelage of John Galliano at Dior (in the 90’s, pre-drama) and at Gucci designing shoes, Diana Broussard now creates ultra stunning shoes, and a collection that encompasses lingerie like this.

The Sweater as Belt: Pas de Calais, $258

A men’s sweater tied ‘round the waist whispers nonchalance while defining the waist. Luckily, it will keep you warm as the night rolls in chilly later on. The quality of the wool is superfine, as is the tradition of Pas de Calais.

The Skirt as Shawl: Pas de Calais, $298

Whether they know it or not, and they probably do, Pas de Calais has crafted a seriously versatile piece out of this. It hangs as wrap around skirt, meant to sling low. I however threw it over my shoulders as a shawl. I like things that do things.

The Gold Scale Bracelet: Diana Broussard, $590

Like a dragon’s skin of solid gold, this engulfs my forearm in luxury. Broussard has a personal legacy of haute couture houses, of course it’s divine.

The Longest Necklace in the World: Laura B Collection Particuliére $500

Woven gold and silver and other various metals block together to form a necklace, that has the capacity to twist and drape on your body to your desired length. Spanning from neck to shin, I have found my favorite way to wear it. Little fact about Laura Bortolami she was studying law and economy before she met Armani’s primary assistant, which set her on a path to fashion.

Zerbib was initially fired by Galliano last week over alleged discrepancies in the handling of Galliano’s financial affairs.

Galliano then made it official, suing Zerbib a few days later for $4.1 million, on the grounds that Zerbib had made several cash withdrawals from a company Galliano owned that managed revenue from his image rights and work at Christian Dior.

Zerbib himself now has a lawyer and is expected to file a defamation charge, among other complaints, against his former client today.

Talk about adding insult to (alleged) larceny. In addition to the Zerbib situation, there’s also that matter of the anti-Semitic rant heard round the world, for which a trial date will finally be set this Thursday, May 12th. [WWD]

- But what does this mean for Burton and the McQueen brand? A series of industry insiders, retail experts and just plain know-it-alls agree that landing the royal wedding dress was a large coup for the Alexander McQueen label, particularly with the Met Costume Institute Gala and Savage Beauty exhibit opening this week. McQueen will become a household name — though it was already that in my household — and will now have a “guaranteed legacy” while “taming” the house’s trademark “edginess.” Sales are expected to go through the roof due to a new, heretofore unseen level of awareness for the McQueen brand and as for Burton; rumors are reaching a fever pitch over her possibly serving as a replacement for John Galliano at Dior. But with the spectacular success of the new Duchess’s wedding gown, PPR (McQueen’s parent company) would likely do everything in its power to keep her on…at least if they were smart they would. - Model Agency Wars! After Next Model Management sued Ford Models for allegedly poaching a trio of models — Karmen Pedaru, Anna Aleksandra Cywinska, and Anna J. — DNA has gotten litigious over Maryna Linchuk, whom they claim Ford “solicited and induced” to break contract. DNA’s result? They’re suing Ford for $2 million. Big game hunting in the wilds of the modeling world can get very expensive. [Fashionista]

As France’s finest ambassador, Christian Dior assembled 120 couture dream gowns alongside paintings and photographs that have inspired the house’s designers throughout the years. Artists that have ignited beauty at Dior include Matisse, Cezanne, Shirin Neshat, Malevich, Toulouse-Lautrec, Pierre Bonnard, Man Ray, Gustav Klimt, and other sensations.

With a room dedicated solely to Dior perfumes and their campaign posters, another to recreating the feel of Monsieur Dior’s atelier and the grand hall featured suspended dresses in giant glass tubes. The curators did not shy away from John Galliano‘s greatest work despite, well, you know, as his Mitzah gown from spring ’97 sprawled its pink ruffles onto the museum floor and his sheer angelic winged cloud-like gown. Yves Saint Laurent‘s short tulle evening gown from fall ’59 lit up the exhibit.

Model Natalia Vodianova an 330 other guests took the magnitude of Dior in with awe. It was an exhibit as only could be executed with the help of Bernard Arnault and an army of 100 fashion-art dedicated workers. It left a deep impression on the fashion elite and oil tycoons alike.

A lot of words sprung to mind when I saw Kate Middleton — now officially Princess Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge —  in Alexander McQueen: Stunning. Beautiful. Perfect. Breathtaking. Classic. Modern. Grace Kelly. And most importantly: Toldyaso.

Princess Kate wore Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, thus ending months of speculation as to her wedding dress and providing a wholly satisfying conclusion.

Featuring a 9-foot train, an ivory lace bodice, lace sleeves and satin skirts made with individual-cut flowers hand-worked onto ivory silk tulle, the gown was a fitting tribute to the late designer and a major moment for Burton, who may now be the front-runner for Dior.

- Dior will debut a few dresses from its upcoming couture and/or Spring 2012 collections at the Cannes Film Festival when French actress Melanie Laurent wears the iconic label to the fest’s opening and closing ceremonies. [Elle]

- Australian retailers are now charging shoppers as much as $50 to try on clothes in an effort to cut back on people buying discounted fashions online after perfecting the fit in-store. The fee is refundable, however, should patrons decide to buy the article of clothing. Personally, I never try on clothes, mostly because I’m lazy. If I get home and something is too big I’ll call it “oversized” and if it’s too small, I call it an “aspirational piece.” I also love finding reasons to not eat, which I call “going on a diet.” [Daily Mail]

- Riccardo Tisci is still the front-runner to replace John Galliano at Dior, but his name is being bandied about with the likes of Olivier Theyskens, Tom Ford, Hedi Slimane, Nicolas Ghesquière, Alber Elbaz, Sarah Burton, Haider Ackermann and Prabal Gurung. Tisci has reportedly already sketched out his vision for the brand and has a supporter in Delphine Arnault, Bernard’s daughter and Dior’s deputy managing director. However, Bernard Arnault‘s eyeing the Royal Wedding, hoping to align Dior with the young couple; so if Burton catches Kate Middleton‘s sartorial bouquet she could be next on the list. The atelier is nevertheless hard at work on their upcoming cruise collection and a couture collection for July. [WWD]

Terry Richardson catches the popstar in her natural element: tranny heels, masks and bodysuits. Providing that element is stylist and Gay Friday, Nicola Formichetti, who keeps Her Royal Gagness resplendent in her staples — Mugler, Alexander McQueen, Versace and Dior — with a sprinkling of a custom Francesco Scognamiglio bodysuit here and a gothic Tex Saverio dress there.

Make no facial prosthetics bones about it, when it comes to putting on a show, there’s no one who can do it like Lady Gaga. Whether you care to see the show is a matter of personal opinion, but as long as she keeps making me dance, laugh and maybe even occasionally think, I’ve got my ticket.
