The Details:

Wingate Prints are a unique collection of printed cushions, t-shirts, napkins, aprons, curtains and gift tags, all designed as a celebration of architectural vision and artistic creativity.

At Wingate Studio, Sam immerses himself in design and printing during the week, transforming the studio into a shop for the public at the weekends. His continued passion and flair for architectural design, has inspired a range of homeware products that break the interior design mould.

Wingate has also put his name to aprons, gift tags and napkins, all with his signature nouveau retro architectural images and Sam Wingate is firmly establishing a new concept of interior design.

DESIGNER DISCOVERY: May Kosaka of Mothe

Last week, we met May Kosaka, as she introduced her F/W 2010 collection at Eva Gallery. She was inspired by American painter, Georgia O’Keefe and New Mexico landscapes. May graduated from FIT and considers fashion as a fine art & science. We like the cuts, materials, and her designs.

Holly Stalder is a romanticist. Stalder’s flattering silhouettes, use of lace, ruffles and soft colors are reminiscent of the established brand, Rebecca Taylor. Her clothes embody femininity. The Portland, Oregon native is inspired by the 20′s era and antiques. Her inspiration is evident in her pieces and maintain a distinct girly continuity. Holly Stalder is simply elegant. So we met these amazing young designers at our Fashion Fruit event last night. Mary Hasavari and Viktorija Valso collectively are Flinga Clothing. Natives of Norway it was definately a suprise to see them at our SOHO event. For more on Flinga be sure to check out their website here!

Designer: Verrieres and Sako

Influenced by shadowy 1940’s Film Noir, designers Kimmie Sako and Stephanie Verrieres translate a moody color palette of somber grays and blacks, innocent whites and saturated plums and blues into a sleek collection of fitted daytime and evening ready-to-wear.

Designer: Ma Ke Wuyong

Ma Ke is one of the most prolific fashion designers working in China today, she graduated from the Suzhou Institute of Silk Textile Technology in 1992 and four years later set up her own label Exception de Mixmind.

Ma Ke’s interest in the crossover between contemporary art and fashion led her to establish the artistic brand Wuyong (Useless) in 2006. Wuyong is an examination of the concept of ‘uselessness’ and how this interpretation varies when seen from different points of view. In February 2007, Wuyong was presented at Paris Fashion Week for the first time and the innovative concept attracted much attention within both art and fashion circles.

Taking discarded items such as an old paint covered sheet Ma Ke transforms it into a dress, the cracked paint creating a beautiful pattern on the garment, and an old tarpaulin is constructed into a coat of magnificent volume. For Ma Ke this focus on personal interpretation and transformation is a way of highlighting the importance of the individual and the inestimable value of life.
