Doo-Ri Announced as Next Designer Collab For Macy’s

As Macy’s enters into the second year of its capsule initiative, we’ve been waiting to hear which designer the department store will collaborate with next. Lucky for all the ladies, Doo-Ri Chung was just announced as the next creative mind to turn out designs for Macy’s contemporary fashion department Impulse. Hitting stores February 15, the collection will feature art-inspired prints, jersey pieces mixed with leather, beautifully detailed knitwear and Doo-Ri’s iconic draping, all at an affordable price. “My clothes have always been about making women feel elegant and modern, which is why I am so excited about this capsule collection,” Doo-Ri Chung said. “It truly embodies the confidence and creativity of the modern woman.”

RUNWAY: Doo.Ri Fall 2010 Womenswear

Doo.Ri Fall 2010 was a bit of a disappointment in comparison to previous collections. Doo-Ri Chung started off strong with two gorgeous navy structural pieces (a suit and belted dress) with draped black netting detail. But things went awry when Chung dabbled with bright red, sequins and several musky patterns. Interspersed with a few good looks, namely the rust leather jacket and draped silk dress, the collection had a few memorable pieces, but generally speaking, Chung was a bit off this season.

RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Doo.Ri S/S 2010

Any designer who gathers inspiration from metal for a collection has my support. Doing just that was Doo-ri Chung with her girly, but edgy, collection in primarily gray fabrics. While a plethora of chains and a leather vest were the only elements of hardcore girl, tops had so much detailing that “hardcore” is simply implied. The Doo.ri collection really speaks for itself and would probably be hindered by further accessories, rather than helped. Loving the gray lipstick too!

This Could Be a Scary Spring…

As if the looming economic crisis weren’t bad enough, the monetary mayhem is now causing retailers to cut orders by at least 10%-15% for the spring. Even New York flagship stores are lowering their buys by up to 10%, hoping that tourists around the holiday season can help them bounce back. These order cuts can only mean one thing…our favorite designers spring collections will be even harder to get our hands on. Designers like Diane Von Furstenberg, Oscar de la Renta and Thakoon plan on shifting their focus to international markets. Other designers like Doo-Ri Chung plan on cutting back details to lower prices. Now, you won’t exactly go naked this spring, but if you absolutely must have these designs, I suggest you hop a plane to Milan and ransack them for all they’re worth. As for now, the availability for designer fashion come March is looking bleak.

Fur Goes Indie: Peta Will Not Be Pleased

WWD has reported that fur is no longer “relegated to designers of a certain age, the fur industry is relying on a cast of fresh faces, including Peter Som, Chris Benz, Doo-Ri Chung and Zac Posen, to help woo new customers.” I never realized that there was an age requirement for the use of fur but I guess I understand that fur requires a ‘mature’ taste.

The question remains; are fur sales down? Are young designers being asked to revamp the fur industry in order to sell more animal skins? According to an old article on Fabsugar, “despite a dip in fur sales last year, customers are currently more interested in smaller fur pieces like stoles and hats.” I guess we’ll see what happens next season.
