Ponyhair Is Everywhere, And We’re Falling For It

For those of you who are wondering if ponyhair is actually the hair side of a pony, as we too were wondering, it’s usually not. Ponyhair, also called haircalf, comes mostly from cows and can even be made from buffalo and other animals. Ponyhair is considered, like fur, to be the pelt of the animal rather than the underside from where leather is taken. It’s typically more expensive than leather because the hair has to be treated, cut and sometimes dyed before using, but we think the price to pay is well worth it. Gaga’s 1950′s greaser alter ego comes with full pompadour and a drinking problem that we kind of want to get rowdy with. In a fantastical dream last night, I was skipping through hot fields packed with wildly garbed people and hula hoops. Ahead of me, The Black Keys were electrifying “Everlasting Light” on a massive stage, and behind me there was a great deal of foofaraw; including a giant glowing structure built of egg cartons and, oddly enough, each of my  head scarves. I was floating, lighter than air, and every time I looked down at my feet, I was wearing a different pair of Dr. Martens. Metallic high tops! Purple polka dot creepers! Impressionist floral combat boots! And each time the Docs made a switch, The Sartorialist, Scott Schumann, snapped a picture of me. Meanwhile Garance Doré was across the field with 3 trailer trucks and a bevy of models, lighting, and incidentally, glow sticks, whilst she directed a photo shoot. When I turned back, The Black Keys had stopped, and the president of Dr. Martens takes the mic to welcome us all to Coachella 2012.

There can only be one explanation for such a dream….

These new Dr. Martens Primary Pascal boots make me wonder if someone spiked my toothpaste this morning. They’re eye-catching, for sure, but look like they’re partnering with Crayola or Kool-Aid.

The leather, soles, trim, and laces are the same solid color. These are going to be big with the streetwear kids.
