MAC and DSQUARED2 LAUNCH BEAUTY COLLECTION all indie

“This girl doesn’t spend hours getting ready but she looks amazing, her style is all her own,” says Dan Caten. “Young Hollywood is about that, they don’t need to impress anyone, it’s cooler than being too studied. The same goes with the makeup, it isn’t about being perfect.” Um, yeah, NO.

Beauty collaborations have been a bit boring lately (Christian Siriano for Vicky Secret for example), but this one looks a bit edgy. Loving the fuchsia looking lipstick, and the bright blue eye pencils.

AD-DICT: Lara Stone for DSquared2’s Fall 2009 Campaign

AD DICT: Lara Stone for DSquared2s Fall 2009 Campaign magazinesWhat isn’t to covet about Lara Stone? First the gal gets an entire issue of Vogue Paris all to herself, and now she has three stunning male models wrapped around her finger in DSquared2’s Fall 2009 Campaign. I can’t decide which I’d want more, but I’m leaning towards the latter.

Shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, DSquared2 designers Dean and Dan Caten were originally supposed to appear in the series of ads, but I don’t think anyone will complain about the replacements!

Dsquared2 Launch Their Own Radio Show

Dsquared2 Launch Their Own Radio Show emerging fashion

Dean and Dan Caten, the brothers behind Dsquared2, are launching their own radio show, which airs on May 5th on Sirius satellite radio’s BPM channel.

The boys will play all their favorite music, including bits from their runway soundtracks. And aside from their own witty commentary, they’ll have interviews with some of their closest friends – actresses, musicians – to talk about fashion and life in general.

So if you took Mary-Kate from four years ago and designed an entire collection around it and then added a couple of trucker hats, you’d have DSquared2 Fall 2009 collection. Leggings, leopard and Starbucks cups make this collection seem dated in the worst kind of way. While it is a collection that imitates many existing trends, it just doesn’t offer much in the way of something new and exciting, which means its the type of collection that you’d probably find at Forever 21 and H&M right this second.

You have to love a good model fight, and this one is definitely for the Supes. Linda versus Naomi!!!!  I can’t believe that this is the first time DSquared2 is launching eyewear, seems like they’ve been around forever. I guess when you start in underwear, you really do have to go from the bottoms up. Tyson Bedford is set to star in the campaign as well. Maybe a three-way cat fight!?! If only we’d be so lucky.

The sunglasses will available in the U.S. in May in stores like Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale’s and Bergdorf Goodman.

A Softer Smoky Eye

After several seasons of dark, heavy shadows, eyes are lightening up. “The eye is still dramatic, but the colors are softer. At Dsquared2, the makeup artist blended a combination of gold shadows over M.A.C. Eye Kohl in Teddy ($14.50) for a metallic smoky eye. Get the look with L’Oreal Paris HIP Metallic Shadow Duo in Gilded ($7).

Peach Blush

This season is more about peach the soft color at Hermès and Derek Lam. It gives you the appearance of being a bit made-up without looking too girly or bronzy. Because peach powder contains strong pigments, using a light hand to apply one swipe of blush a little below your apples so it doesn’t look too doll-like. Try Chanel Blush Duo Tweed Effect in Tweed Corail ($45).

Bold Brows

Strong and defined brows made their way back to the runway this season. It’s a fresh but handsome look, luscious eyebrows à la Brooke Shields at DKNY. Tame full brows with a gel like Laura Mercier Eye Brow Gel ($19). If your brows are uneven or sparse, fill them in with Revlon Brow Fantasy pencil and set them with its tinted gel ($7.50).

Major Liner

The perennial favorite stood out at Narciso Rodriguez, Stella McCartney, and Just Cavalli, rimmed eyes with black pencil. Keep the rest of your makeup simple with natural blush and lips. Try Giorgio Armani Smooth Silk Eye Pencil in 4 ($26). Prefer liquid liner? Go for Cover Girl Line Exact in Very Black ($5.99).

RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Dsquared2 Fall 2009 Collection

RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Dsquared2 Fall 2009 Collection menswear designers

Well is was only a matter of time before I came across a collection that I don’t like, and Dsquared unfortunately it was you this season. The collection they released is probably the most uninspiring display of fashion I have seen in a long time, and before you start throwing hate mail my way let me explain. The clothes themselves were pretty good. I will point out that the leather vests and blazers were made very well, but the styling for this show left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Is it just me, or if you added some fake tan, 30 lbs of muscle and some form of tribal tattoo you would end up with a Jersey shore GAP fashion show? I do not like the dressed down tux/suit look with the straight legged, rolled up, baggy jean look. I think it’s a bit tacky. There were some nice pieces, but not enough. Sorry Dsquared!

I wasn’t sure about this campaign when I first saw it. I thought it was too similar to everything else I’ve been seeing recently. But the more I look at the ads, the more I feel like photographer Steven Meisel knew exactly what he was doing. Everything this fall has been wild and busy with a lot of clutter and multiple models a spread. I like the noise, but the deliberate simplicity of the Dsquared2 campaign shows the fall ‘08 line in a different light. It doesn’t have to be over the top and outrageous but accessible for everyday dressing. Maybe is more ads were like these, people would whip out the fab garb more often.

Supermodel Amber Valetta and model/artist Boyd Holbrook in the latest DSquared2 campaign shot by Steven Meisel. Theme? Punk/ska redone for the 00’s. A departure from the recent multi group shots, the powerful campaign is a visual match to their simple and boldly graphic site.
