CFDA CEO Steven Kolb Has a Conversation in Harlem

Edited by

An audience of prospective designers and general fashion lovers — including Fern Mallis, designer Tracy Reese and stylist Phillip Bloch – gathered in Harlem’s Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture for an informative discussion with the CFDA‘s bespectacled CEO Steven Kolb last night, kicking off Harlem’s Fashion Row‘s 2012 conversations series. Kolb sat down with HFR founder and CEO Brandice Henderson to discuss an array of subjects from Kolb’s first meeting with Anna Wintour, to the guidelines required for membership to the CFDA, the future of garment manufacturing in Manhattan and Kolb’s short-lived days as a high school football “star.”

Steven Kolb Does the Work, DVF Takes the Credit, and that’s A OK by the CFDA

Edited by

The workhorse behind the CFDA, C.E.O. Steven Kolb, lingers momentarily on Diane Von Furstenberg‘s runway post-show, making his way from backstage to the front of house. I overheard him tell another journalist, “I do all the work, Diane takes all the credit. It’s established and out in the open.” It’s quite alright with all parties involved; if he didn’t do the lion’s share of the CFDA workload, when would DVF possibly have time to create a collection and run her powerhouse? That said, on the 50th anniversary of the CFDA, there is much excitement abounds with the relocation of CFDA headquarters, so we got a little nosy.

Paris Responds to Fashion Week Calendar Controversy, Leaves DVF Speechless

Edited by

And here we go again. The ongoing, and as it seems now, neverending, battle over the fashion week calendar and the “second Thursday rule” just got even more complicated as Paris’ Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture has decided to pretty much pretend that nothing’s been happening and will keep its 2013 and 2014 show dates; a move that left CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg “speechless.”

Best Luggage to Roll With

Edited by

The sea of standard black suitcases streaming off the baggage claim not only is a confusing playland of lose-your-luggage, but it’s also super boring to watch. Give yourself a lift at the airport, and get a bag that jumps (and glides as if on ice). However, if you’re going to go black, at least go Jimmy Choo croc.
