reco jeans – When using recycled materials isn’t enough, what else can a company do to contribute to the eco-friendly lifestyle? reco jeans uses recycled denim and packing; non-toxic rivets, zippers and buttons; and tags hung on belt loops to eliminate the use of plastic. Before bringing the house down with a Drops of Jupiter encore finale, Train’s vocal virtuoso Patrick Monahan walked singing through the crowd with a mic and a security guard, giving hugs and spreading love to Marry Me. Before that, he brought the audience to a hush as he sang a cappella, sans microphone, turning Webster Hall into a true theater. With Soul Sister came the involuntary sing along, and Meet Virginia struck a deep chord toward the start. In betwixt all of this, he called up eight young ladies up to be the Trainettes, making them rockstars for a moment.  Needless to say, their new single Save me, San Francisco drove the audience wild, like every one of their singles that get stuck in our heads indefinitely.

Opening for Train was the stunning Nikki Jean. Down in her core she is a songwriter with a nostalgic soul. Her new album took her around the country to write with some of the greatest living songwriters like Bob Dylan, Carole King, Burt Bacharach, Carly Simon and many others. What was gained is a young songstress now evolving with the wisdom of the legends of our time. There were notes of those greats in the atmosphere as she serenaded the audience on the ivory keys.

Right before Nikki Jean took the stage, the winners of the Origins Rocks Earth Month Green Artist Search Treetop Flyers haunted the audience with tickling guitar riffs and voices smooth as honey. Chaps from England have a way with music.

Before any of this went down, FashionIndie caught up with Train on the Green Carpet as they entered. We asked them, how do they take the green initiative upon themselves?

Pat Monahan: “We haven’t just woken up to hey, take care of the earth. And this isn’t, take care of the earth. The earth will win. It’s take care of the future children we want to have. Love your job and the other things will come. We love our job and it makes us want to be more helpful, and do events like this.“

Scott Underwood: “We’re reducing our footprint as a band. We used to use lots of bottles of water, and we’re trying to fully eliminate it. We’re trying to green our bus, but we’re not always there in there.”

Jimmy Stafford: “We did the John Mayer tour, and bands like us, come in requesting the venues to be green. We’re making those demands now, but it will become more common.

Julissa Bermudez: Co-host on BET’s 106 & Park, she looked sizzling in Kimberly Ovitz.

Jane Lauder: Global President & General Manager of Origins has so many ways to be green, I don’t think it’s possible to name all of them here. She’s planting trees, recycling tons of used makeup containers, and continuing to ensure Origins is completely natural.

Jeff Miles: The night’s MC from 95.5 PLJ moved to NY from Dalla, TX, so for him going completely carless is a huge step in greening his life.

1. Wear a jazzy surgical mask. Remember when swine flu was all the rage? Everywhere you looked, someone(s) was wearing a surgical mask. These are ugly and sterile, no pun intended. Spice up your look while protecting your immune system with gemstones, colorful patterns or even a different mouth. When we first heard that Kiehl’s would partner with celebs on an Earth Day fundraising intiative, we expected big things from the eco-friendly brand.

And Kiehl’s has delivered in the most creative way.

Today, the earth-loving label has revealed stunning shots taken by photographer David LaChapelle that feature actress Julianne Moore, artist Jeff Koons, pro-surfer Malia Jones and musician Pharrell Williams in portraits that meld the epitome of eco-chic with raw urban sex appeal.

We’re loving how Moore’s zippered red biker jacket sets off her fierce red Bridget Bardot-like tumble of locks – while Jones’s smoky moss green eyes and rock-toned abs and biceps have us more than just a little jealous.

Directed by Yann Arthus-Bertrand and co-produced with PPR and Luc Besson, the film focuses on the positive aspects of our planet, its diversity and beauty in a bid to highlight important social and climate change issues.

In support of the home project Alexander McQueen has produced an exclusive dying earth skull scarf, which features the earth eroded to form one of McQueen’s signature skulls (above). McQueen is kindly donating all the profits from the sale to Good Planet.
