After 12 years of styling in New York City, Sara Beltrán took her fashionable self to Jaipur, India where she now creates jewelry sourced from the beaches she visits around the world. Talk about living the dream! She casts shells in gold, finds exotic stones and diamonds, scours fossilized sharks’ teeth and makes Mexican friendship bracelets as well. She was just announced the winner of the Ecco Domani Accessories Award and was granted $25,000 to continue on making whimsical jewelry that speaks to the sea lovers within us all. She named her label Dezso (the Latin word for desire) most likely because this was her greatest desire, and now it’s one of ours, too. See her seafaring wares here.

Tim Coppens, the proud winner of the 2012 Ecco Domani Award for best new menswear designer is our featured designer of the day. His work is crisp and bright with sharp detailing in subtle color blocking and pocket placement. The cuts are slim and the look is forward. He studied at The Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp in the 90s, a decade after the Antwerp 6 graduated. He helmed RLX for many years before launching his own company last year. Barneys picked up his entire first collection exclusively, but now he is in several other stores worldwide. Take a look at his Spring 2012 collection and see why he’s a winner.

Bloomie’s SoHo Eco Pop Up Shop

The Green Shows showcases talented new designers with eco and socially responsible work ethics during Fashion Week, and is celebrating Earth Day this week with guilt-free shopping. They’re hosting the Spring Ecolux Designer Showcase, a pop-up shop in Bloomingdale’s SoHo. It’s all happening this week – ten designers to meet and shop with, plus a window takeover! Wednesday 4/20 through Saturday 4/23. Check out all the designers here before you go there to meet them.

Samantha Pleet: High-waisted shorts and bikinis, bows and flows. Old time flare gone fantastically modern.

Fergie wowed the crowd during their tour last week when she wore a custom made creation by Phillipe and David Blond. The crystal, spike and chainmail dress was especially commissioned by the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation design duo, who just showed their most recent collection during last week at the Altman Building at New York Fashion Week.

RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Bodkin Fall 2009

Samantha Pleet left Bodkin in the trusty hands of former Teen Vogue and Nylon writer Eviana Hartman, with whom she started the eco-friendly label.

Hartman held Bodkin’s first official runway show Monday and showed off “dyes derived from eggplants or spinach leaves, quilting from recycled bottles, and non-violent silk blessed by the Dalai Lama.” The result: slouchy, warm shapes, one-of-a-kind dye jobs, and sustainable simplicity.

Robert Verdi Announced as New Face of Ecco Domani Fashion

As a representative for the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation, Robert Verdi will bring his fashion expertise to this year’s Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation shows and events.

Now in its eighth year, the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation is proud to recognize the seven recipients of the 2009 awards: Cushnie et Ochs, Lyn Devon, Matthew Ames, and OHNE TITEL in the women’s design category; CORPUS in the men’s design category; and Monique Péan in the accessories category. EDFF also introduces its inaugural Sustainable Design category winner, Bodkin Brooklyn.

These future stars of fashion each received a $25,000 grant to help showcase their collection at New York Fashion Week this February. Past winners include Zac Posen, Proenza Schouler, Peter Som, Derek Lam, Thakoon, Rodarte, Erin Fetherston and Alexander Wang.

Ecco Domani Announces Fashion Winners

The good folks at Ecco Domani just announced the winners of their 2009 Fashion Foundation awards and some of our favorite designers made the cut including Samantha Pleet and Corpus

The recipients are Lyn Devon, Matthew Ames, Cushnie et Ochs by Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs, and Ohne Titel by Alexa Adams and Flora Gill in the women’s design category. Corpus, by Jerrod Cornish and Keith Richardson, was honored for men’s design, and jeweler Monique Péan won for accessories.

The foundation’s inaugural award for sustainable design went to Bodkin Brooklyn designers Eviana Hartman and Samantha Pleet, who create bags out of old leather jackets.

Each of the winners takes home a $25,000 prize which is to be used to help produce their New York Fashion Week show in February.
